  • In this report, a case of a 70-year-old man with a large ganglion cyst formed after anterior transposition of the left ulnar nerve is presented. Three months after the index surgery, the patient presented with a painless superficial ovoid, soft mass measuring $5{\times}4{\times}2cm$ in size located at the posteromedial aspect of the left elbow, the previously operated site. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a well demarcated cystic mass with a stalk connecting to the elbow joint. Excisional biopsy was performed and pathologic findings showed that the cystic wall had no definite lining cells with myxoid degeneration compatible with findings of ganglion cyst.

  • In this paper, we studied about the effect of the open crack and a tip mass on the dynamic behavior of a cantilever pipe conveying fluid with a moving mass. The equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange's equation and analyzed by numerical method. The cantilever pipe is modelled by the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged pipe segments. The influences of the crack, the moving mass, the tip mass and its moment of inertia, the velocity of fluid, and the coupling of these factors on the vibration mode, the frequency, and the tip-displacement of the cantilever pipe are analytically clarified.

  • Stellar mass is an important parameter of galaxies. We estimate the dynamical mass of an elliptical galaxy by its velocity dispersion and effective radius using the Hernquist model in the framework of MOdified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND). MOND is an alternative theory to the dark matter paradigm. In MOND the dynamical mass is the same as the baryonic mass or luminous mass, and in elliptical galaxies most of the baryons reside in stars. We select elliptical galaxies between redshift 0.05 and 0.5 from the main galaxy sample and the luminous red galaxy sample in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We find that the stellar mass-to-light ratio at different redshift epochs can be fitted by a gamma distribution, and its mean is smaller at smaller redshifts.

  • Recently, various Ni doping systems and thermal annealing systems have been developed for fabrication of polycrystalline silicon film using SGS (super grain silicon) for medium and largesize AMOLED panels. In this study, we compare the potential of Ni doping systems including ALD (atomic layer deposition), AMD (atmospheric metal deposition), in-line sputter, and crystallization annealing systems including batch type furnace, inline furnace, and RTA (rapid thermal annealing) developed for the SGS method. Additional requirements for those systems to be used for mass production of large AMOLED TVs are suggested based on evaluation results for both poly-Si films and TFT backplanes.

  • This study investigated the effects of the light conditions on the productivity of scenedesmus dimorphus in the continuous mass cultivation system. To compare the algal productivity according to the light conditions, S. dimorphus was cultivated continuously under the wide range of light intensity(200-600 PPFD) and various light wavelength(white light and red-blue mixed light). After 100 days of cultivation under the different light intensity, the productivity of S. dimorphus increased as light intensity decreased. So, the productivity was maximized as 100 mg/L/d when light intensity was 200 PPFD. In case of light wavelength, the productivity of S. dimorphus was enhanced about 20% with the white light compared to that of the red-blue mixed light. Consequently, the optimal light conditions for the continuous mass cultivation of S. dimorphus were 200 PPFD as light intensity and white light as light wavelength.

  • Ossified lipoma or osteolipoma are rarely reported. It is defined as a histologic variant of lipoma that has undergone osseous metaplasia. Osteolipoma presents with a dominant osseous component within a lipoma. We report a case of a histologically confirmed osteolipoma on the nuchal ligament independent of bone. The patient was a 51-year-old female who presented with a 5-year history of a painless, progressively enlarging mass on the posterior neck. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed a circumscribed mass compatible with fat between the C2 and C6 spinous processes with a large calcified irregular component. The mass with dual components was totally removed under general anesthesia and no recurrence was observed after 6 months of follow-up. We also reviewed the clinicopathologic features of previously reported osteolipomas in the literature and suggest that although osteolipoma is a rare variant of lipoma, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis when a lipoma of the posterior neck mixed with a bony component is encountered.

  • Changes of CP4 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (CP4 EPSPS) in the glyphosate-tolerant Roundup Ready soybean were examined using purified CP4 EPSPS produced in cloned Escherichia coli as a control. CP4 EPSPS in genetically modified soybean was detected by twodimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) and electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS/MS) with databases. CP4 EPSPS in soybean products was resolved on 2-DE by first isoelectric focusing (IEF) based on its characteristic pI of 5.1, followed by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) based on its molecular mass of 47.5 kDa. We quantified various percentages of soybean CP4 EPSPS. The quantitative analysis was performed using a 2D software program on artificial gels with spots varying in Gaussian volumes. These results suggested that 2-DE image analysis could be used for quantitative detection of GM soybean, unlike Western blotting.

  • Alkoxyalcohols are used as solvents or preservatives in various consumer products such as wet wipes. The metabolites of alkoxyalcohols are known to be chronically toxic and carcinogenic to animals. Thus, an analytical method is needed to monitor alkoxyalcohols in wet wipes. The aim of this study was to develop a simultaneous analytical method for 14 alkoxyalcohols using headspace gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry to analyze the wet wipes. This method was developed by comparing with various headspace extraction parameters. The linear calibration curves were obtained for the method ($r^2$ > 0.995). The limit of detection of alkoxyalcohols ranged from 2 to $200ng\;mL^{-1}$. The precision of the determinative method was less than 18.20% coefficient of variation both intra and inter days. The accuracy of the method ranged from 82.86% to 119.83%. (2-Methoxymethylethoxy)propanol, 2-phenoxyethanol, and 1-phenoxy-2-propanol were mainly detected in wet wipes.

  • This papers describes the preparation and experimental results of a micro mass detection devices based on cantilever and a diffuser-type micro pump using screen printing thick-film technologies and Si micro-machining. PZT-PCW thick films were prepared by new hybrid method based on the screen printing. By applying these PZT-PCW piezoelectric thick films on actuator, a cantilever for mass detection sensor and a micropump for microfluidic element are successfully fabricated. Resonant frequency and displacement of PZT-PCW thick film actuator in air and in liquid are measured by laser vibrometer system as a function of actuator size. The resonant frequency of PZT-PCW thick film actuator in liquid decreases order of 1/2-1/4 due to damping effect. The sensitivity of cantilever is characterized by Au deposition method which has the mass loading effect such as adsorption of protein. The Sensitivity of PZT-0.12PCW thick film cantilever is proportional to detecting area.

  • Here we report a case of a focal atypical proliferative nodule (PN) arising from a congenital melanocytic nevus (CMN). Diagnosis was challenging because it had both benign and malignant clinical features. Unusual histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and intraoperative findings of this atypical PN are discussed. A 5-year-old girl was admitted for a congenital $5{\times}5cm$ sized scalp mass. This hemangioma-like soft mass showed biphasic characteristics such as a slow, gradual, and benign increase in size but worrisome dural invasion with cranial bone defect. We removed the scalp mass with clear resection margins. Interoperatively, we found that the cranial bone defect had already filled. Histopathologic examination showed CMN with focal atypical PN. The nodule showed sharp demarcation and cellular pleomorphism. However, in immunohistochemical study, Ki-67 proliferation index and expression levels of protein S-100 and Melan-A were very low. These were unusual findings of atypical PNs. Despite her worrisome preoperative radiologic features, she showed an indolent clinical course compatible with previously reported biologic behavior. The patient underwent follow-up inspection with magnetic resonance imaging every 6 months for up to 3 years. The nodule appeared to be stationary at the last visit.
