  • In order to reduce ground vibration during tunnel excavation, a free surface blasting method has been applied in which a partial free surface is formed on the excavation surface and controlled blasting is performed. In this study, the ground vibration reduction due to artificial joints was evaluated by forming artificial joints on center cut using diamond wire saw and comparing the ground vibration caused by center cut blasting. As a result of comparison, ground vibration was reduced by artificial joints center cut blasting more than normal center cut blasting, and the ground vibration reduction effect of horizontal artificial joints center cut blasting was evaluated more than that of vertical artificial joint center cut blasting.

  • In most tunnel constructions in South Korea, blasting has been widely used as an excavation method. In tunnel blasting, the center-cut to induce first free surface is very important for enhancing excavation efficiency and reducing vibration caused by exploding. This paper introduces new center-cut method named SAV-cut (Stage Advance V-cut) developed on the concept of V-cut. Significant features of SAV-cut are the center hole and stepwise ignition. Many field tests and numerical analysis were carried out to analyze the mechanical behavior and blasting vibration. From the results, the newly developed SAV-cut was proved as an effective center-cut method for both increasing blasting efficiency and decreasing blasting vibration.

  • Ground vibration generated repeatedly in blasting tunnel excavation sites is known to be one of the major hazards induced by blasting operations. Various studies have been conducted to minimize these hazards, both theoretical and empirical methods using electronic detonator, the deck charge method, the center-cut method among others Among these various existing methods for controlling the ground vibration, in this study, we investigated the cut method. In particular, we analyzed and compared the V-cut method, which is commonly used in tunnel blasting, to the double-drilled parallel method, which has recently been introduced in tunnel excavation site. To understand the rock fragmentation efficiency as well as the ground vibration controllability of the two methods, we performed in-situ field blasting tests with both cut methods at a tunnel excavation site. Additionally, numerical analysis by FLAC3D has been executed for a better understanding of fracture propagation pattern and ground vibration generation by each cut method. Ground vibration levels, by PPVs measured in field blasting tests and PPVs estimated in numerical simulations, showed a lower value in the double-drilled parallel compared with the V-cut method, although the exact values are quite different in field measurement and numerical estimation.

  • The cut is placed high up in the section, the 1st sloping holes below the cut, and divided all the holes located below the 1st sloping holes into a certain area with longitudinal section, to lower pollution made from tunnel blasting. With the sequential blasting machine, after I first blasted holes around the cut holes by a pre-splitting method, blasted the cut area and the 1st sloping holes. The 1st and 2nd sloping holes divided areas are initiated gradually to free face upwards made by the cut. Especially, I pre-splinted contour holes previous blast the before sloping holes from the contours. The ground vibration from the earth surface just over the advance face decreased about 42.0% compare with the down blasting method under the condition of equal charge weight per delay. I controlled the crack and over break of the mother rock by pre-splitting contour holes before blast the first sloping holes from the contours. The peak values of noise and air blast by blasting decreased about 10dB more than the down blasting method. the noise and air blast diminished gradually as a round. The throw distance of the fly rock was decreased about 55%.

  • This study, to reduce a ground vibration damage of the structures in an area adjacent to housing structures located closely above the tunnel section, is the ground vibration reduction instance of a tunnel blasting selectively applied the ground vibration-controlled blasting method (delay time applied blasting method, large center hole cut method, Line Drilling method, etc) with an originally planned blasting method connected, but with it's workability and economic efficiency is satisfactory, so, the results says the ground vibration-controlled blasting method on a similar condition is very effective, even if the applicability is depend on the blasting method and ground condition of the work area.

  • When a shaft is excavated in Korea, the mechanized method such as RBM(Raise Boring Machine) or RC(Raise Climber) is used independently of depth. But usually, the mechanized method is useful for the deep depth. On the contrary, when the depth of shaft is short, the cost of excavation increase. So in the case of shaft constructon less than 100m, we need to consider more suitable method of shaft construction such as Stage-cut which is one of blasting methods. Stage-Cut is widely used in the field of shaft construction in Japan as a tool of rock excavation. The main purpose of this study is to provide technical guidance for design and construction of shafts in rock, using Stage-cut method which is suitable for 20m~80m depth shaft. In this study, Blasting tests was performed in field, according to rock classification. Finally, the stage-cut method which is suitable for the geology of Korea was developed.

  • This paper introduce a multistage parallel non-vibration electronic tunnel blasting cases which adapts Electronic Blasting System(EBS) and the center-cut blasting method to excavating a single line railway tunnel close to residential area. As a result, it was revealed that the vibration and noise showed a reduction of 23.5% and 75% of compared with the allowable standard. We successfully completed the tunnel excavation with decreasing construction time and construction cost and without civil compliant.

  • Ground vibration is one of the remarkable issues in tunnel blasting. In recent studies, to improve the fragmentation with reduction of ground vibration in tunnel blasting, a vibration-controlled blasting method with artificial cutting slot near the center-cut holes has been suggested. This study examines the effect of the different arrangement of artificial cut-slot on the vibration reduction and fragmentation by performing the full-scaled concrete block blast experiments and the numerical simulations with 3D-DFPA. The results show that the existence of artificial slot contributes to the improvement of vibration reduction, blast fragmentation and the efficiency of the cutting slot blast. It can be explained that the artificial slot play a free surface role and should decrease the burden between the cut holes. Crater volumes of the blasted concrete blocks were measured by 3-dimensional digital image analysis and compared with the ideal standard crater volume which can be calculated by theoretical standard blast design method. As a result, the ratio of burden and hole diameter which should achieve the standard crater in the cut-hole blasting were suggested.
