This study was performed to evaluate the mechanical properties of high performance lightweight polymer concrete using fillers and synthetic lightweight coarse aggregate. The following conclusions were drawn. 1. The unit weight of the G3, G4 and G5 concrete was 1.500t/m$^3$, 1.506t/m$^3$ and 1.535t/m$^3$, respectively. Specially, the unit weights of those concrete were decreased 33~35% than that of the normal cement concrete. 2. The highest strength was achieved by heavy calcium carbonate, it was increased 27% by compressive, 95% by tensile and 195% by bending strength than that of the normal cement concrete, respectively. 3. The elastic modulus was in the range of 8.0 x 104~ 10.4 x lO4kg/cm2, which was approximately 35~42% of that of the normal cement concrete. Normal cement concrete was showed relatively higher elastic modulus. 4. The ultrasonic pulse velocity of fillers was in the range of 2, 900m/sec, which was showed about the same compared to that of the normal cement concrete. Heavy calcium carbonate was showed higher pulse velocity. 5. The compressive, tensile, bending strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity were largely showed with the increase of unit weight.

This experiment was carried out as one of the basic studies to improve the acid resistance of concrete and it was conducted to investigate some relations among physical properties such as basorption, ratio of water to cement, compressive strength, density and ratio of mix to weight losses of mortar when exposed to 0.1 N solution of hydrochrolic acid. The results obtained from the limited data secured so far in this experiment are summarized as follows: 1. The specimens used in the experiment were made of 5 cubic centimeters of mortar having such various ratios of mix by weight as 1 : 1, 1 : 3, 1 : 5, 1 : 7, 1 : 10. 2. Physical tests included compressive strengths at 7 days, 28 days, 3 months, and 6 month, and 5 hour boiling absorption test. 3. In acid test, every specimen was immersed into 0.1 N solution of hydrochrolic acid. The specimens exposed to the acid solution were weighed to determine the weight losses of the acid-corroded at one week interval for 7 weeks exposure, and the old acid solutions were also changed to fresh one when weighed the weight losses by acid attack at one week interval. 4. The correlative relations were found among physical properties and they are expressed by certain formulas as follows; i) Relation between ratio of mix and absorption Y = 1.036x + 13.53 where Y: absorption(%) X: ratio of mix ii) Relation between ratio of mix and ratio of water-cement Y = 0.204x + 0.214 where Y: ratio of water-cement. X: ratio of mix iii) Relation between ratio of water-cement and absorption Y = 5.01x + 12.53 where Y: absorption(%). X: ratio of water-cement iv) Relation between density and absorption Y = 50.6 - 0.0176X where Y: absorption(%). X: density($kg/m^3$) v) Relation between density and ratio of water cement Y = 7.2183 - 0.0033X where Y: ratio of water-cement . X: density($kg/m^3$) 5. After completing the acid exposure test the specimens were corroded and , the per cent ranges of weight losses varies from a minimum of 20.4 per cent at a 1 : 1 mix to a maximum of 92.0 per cent at a 1:10 mix 6. The correlative relations of physical properties of mortar to weight losses by acid attak were found and they are also expressed by certain formulas as follows: i) Relation between weight losses and ratio of mix Y = 8.59X + 8.63 where Y: weight losses(%), X: ratio of mix ii) Relation between wieght losses and absorption Y = 0.121x + 12.43 where Y: absorption(%). X: weight losses(%) iii) Relation between weight losses and ratio of w/c Y = 0.0226X + 0.07 where Y: ratio of w/c X: weight losses(%) iv) Relation between weight losses and compressive strength LogY = 3.6097 - 0.05058X + 0.00022$X^2$ where Y: compressive strength ($kg/cm^3$) X: weight losses(%) v) Relation between weight losses and density Y = 2153.1 - 6.62X where Y: density($kg/m^3$) X: weigh losses(%) 7. In order to make better acid resistant mortar, it could be concluded that a 1 : 3 mix or richer mixes, adequate mixing water to minnimize the ratio of water-cement considering the workability, 16 per cent or less absorption by 5 hour boiling water, 1,800 kilogram per cubic meter or denser density by absolute weight base and 200 kilogram per square meter or compressive strength at 20 day, etc are required so as to obtain acid-resistant mortar. In addition to the above, it might be recommonded to select the fine aggregate and to use better equipments such as a mechanical vibrator, a mechanical mixer etc. in concrete manufacturing works.
Accelerators are used to speed up the construction by accelerating the setting time which helps in early removal of formwork thus leading to faster construction rate. Admixtures are used in mortar and concrete during or after mixing to improve certain properties of material which cannot be achieved in conventional cement mortar and concrete. The various industrial by products make nuisance and are hazardous to ecosystem as well. These wastes can be used in the construction industries to reduce the consumption of cement/aggregates, cost; and save the energy and environment by utilising waste and eliminate their disposal problem as well. The effect of calcium nitrate and triethanolamine (TEA) as accelerators and marble powder (MP) as waste material on the various properties of cement paste and mortar has been studied in the present work. The replacement ratio of MP was 0-10% @ 2.5% by weight of cement. The addition of calcium nitrate was 0% and 1%; and variation of addition of TEA was 0-0.1@ 0.025% and 0.1-1.0@ 0.1% by weight of cement. On the basis of setting time, some mix proportions were selected and further investigated. Setting time and soundness of cement paste; compressive strength and microstructure of mortar mix of selected mix proportions were studied experimentally at 3, 7 and 28 days aging. Results showed that use of MP, calcium nitrate, TEA and their combination reduced setting time of cement paste for all the mixes. Addition of calcium nitrate increased the compressive strength at all curing ages while MP and TEA decreased the compressive strength. The mechanism of additives was discussed through scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis of the specimens.
In this paper, three kinds of poly(acrylate-co-methylacrylate) with different number average molecular weight(Mn) were synthesized and studied for the effects on the mechanical properties and the fluidities of the cement mortar admixtured with them. The physical properties of the cement mortar are more favorably enhanced by the poly(acrylate-co-methylacrylate) of Mn,, 5,000 than that of Mn, 2,000∼3,000. And the optimum dosage was decided to ca. 0.6 % of cement weight in cement mortar. However, the dispersion abilities of the polymers in cement mortar was not kept long time. This last result could not be explained by the theory that the fluidity of the cement mortar added with the slow releasing polycarboxylates is kept by the releasing of the carboxylic group of the copolymer in alkaline solution of cement paste.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of stabilization disposal and recycling on incinerated paper mill sludge ash as cement additives. It was investigated chemical(pH, ICP, TGA XRD) and physical(PDA, SEM) characteristics of the incineration ash. And the pozzolanic characteristics of incineration ash was applied to cement as additive to increase the compressive strength. The results were that the pH characteristic of incineration ash was strong alkalinity, the content of silica and alumina as a pozzolanic material was 50.97%, and the average particle size was $5.03{\mu}m$ respectively. When the ash contents as cement additive were varied in 0~15%(wt) of cement weight to explore the effect of the compressive strength on the solidified cement mortar, the proper amount of the incineration ash substituted was about 5~l0%(wt). Therefore we found that using the incineration ash as cement additive obtains the recycling of waste material, the stabilization disposal, the reduction of waste disposal expense, and the protection of environmental problem, too.

In this study, the compressive strength characteristics of lime-cement-soil mixtures, composed of lime, soil, and a small amount of cement, were investigated by performing the unconfined compression tests, the freezing and thawing tests, the wetting and drying tests and the permeability tests. The specimens were made by mixing soils with cement and lime. The cement contents were 0, 6, 8 and 10 %, and the lime contents were 2, 4, 5, 10, 15 and 20 % in weight. Each specimen was cured at constant temperature in a humidity room for 3, 7 and 28 days. The compressive strength characteristics of the lime-cement-soil mixtures were then investigated using the unconfined compression tests, freezing and thawing tests and the wetting and drying tests. Based on the test results, a discussion was made on the applicability of the lime-cement-soil mixtures as a construction material.
Cement kiln dust (CKD) is one of the most important waste materials in the cement industry. The large amount of this material, has encouraged researchers to propose new ways to recycle and reuse it. In this paper, effects of adding cement kiln dust to the ordinary Portland cement, on the physical and mechanical properties of ordinary and lightweight concrete were investigated. Results showed that concrete containing CKD, presents lower workability and modulus of elasticity; however, improvements in strength was observed by adding particular amounts of CKD. Eventually, it was found that adding 10% of cement weight CKD is the appropriate percentage for utilizing in manufacturing ordinary and lightweight concrete.

In this study, the variation of unit weight and unconfined compressive strength were investigated, calcium carbonate, quicklime, portland cement, 19mm length monofilaments and fibrillated fiber were used as reinforcement materials. And calcium chloride was added to cement and calcium carbonate reinforced soil mixture in order to accelerate setting and hardening speed. It appears that unit weight is highest in calcium carbonate reinforced soil mixture with mixing rate of 9%. According to increasing the amount of fiber in soil mixture, the unit weight decreased. It shows that the more the amount of monofilament fiber is added in soil mixture, the higher the compressive strength is, but the compressive strength is decreased in fibrillated fibrillated fiber added soil mixture with more than 1.0% of mixing rate.

The objective of this study is to determine an appropriate cement of soil-cement in which silty soil of salty tidal flat with low plasticity was used. Physical, chemical and mechanical tests were conducted to find out the standard properties of the soil to be used. Various cement contents used in this test were 8%, 10%, 12%, and 14%, and the compressive strength was tested after 7 days and 28 days of standard curing in the above each cement content respectively. The results obtaind are summarized as follows. 1. As the cement content was increased from 8% to 14%, Maximum dry density (M.D.D.) and optimum moisture content (O.M.C.) were not changed remarkably. 2. Density of soil-cement was directly proportional to cement content and inversely proportional to water content. 3. OMC was generally decreased in proportion to the increase of cement content. 4. Compressive stranth was directly proportional to centent and inversely proportional to water content. 5. In freezing and thawing test, maximum loss of 10% in the total Weight was found on the 8% cement mixture. and This loss was rapidly decreased to 2% when the Cement content of the mixture was more than 10%.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the adhesion in flexure depending on the cement type, polymer type, polymer-cement ratio, and silica fume ratio of the polymer-cement composites(PCCs) for crack repair in RC structures to induce optimal mix proportions. The adhesion in flexure of PCCs for crack repair of RC structure has a significant effect on the polymer type and polymer-cement ratio, and the adhesion in flexure is generally improved with mixing of silica fume as a mixture. The adhesion in flexure according to the type of polymer is slightly higher in the order of SAE, EVA, and SBR, and it is relatively high at the polymer-cement ratio of 60% or 80%. In addition, the adhesion in flexure of PCCs with silica fume ratio of 10% or 20% to the cement weight is higher than that without silica fume. In order to improve the adhesion in flexure of PCCs for repairing cracks in RC structures, the optimal mix design is to properly adjust the cement type, polymer type, polymer-cement ratio, and silica fume ratio.
