  • This research was conducted to determine effect of pumice aggregate ratio, cement dosage and slumps on freeze-thaw resistance, density, water absorption and elasticity of concrete. In the first batch, $300kg/m^3$ cement dosage were kept constant and pumice ratios were changed as 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of replacement for normal aggregate by volume for $3{\pm}1cm$, $5{\pm}1cm$ and $7{\pm}1cm$ slumps. Other batches were prepared with $200kg/m^3$, $250kg/m^3$, $350kg/m^3$, $400kg/m^3$ and $500kg/m^3$ cement dosages and 25% pumice aggregate +75% normal aggregate at a constant slump. Test results showed that when pumice-aggregate ratio decreased the density and freeze-thaw resistance of concretes increased. With increasing of cement dosage in the mixtures, density of the concretes increased, however, freeze-thaw resistance of concretes decreased. Water absorption of the concrete decreased with increasing cement dosage but increased with the pumice ratio. Water absorption of the concrete also decreased after freeze-thaw cycles. Freeze-thaw resistance of concretes was decreased with increasing the slumps.

  • The effects of polymer-cement ratio and recycled aggregate content on the continuous void ratio, coefficient of permeablity, compressvie, tensile and flexural strengths of water-permeable polymer-modified concretes using recycled aggregate are examined. As a result, the continuous void ratio and coefficient of permeablity of the water-permeable polymer-modified concretes tend to decrease with increasing polymer-binder ratio. Regardless of the recycled aggregate content, the compressvie, tensile and flexural strengths of the water-permeable polymer-modified concretes wtend to increase with increasing polymer-cement ratio.

  • This study is intended to investigate the engineering properties of concrete, in which cement and fine aggregate are replaced with cement kiln dust(CKD), such as the properties of fresh concrete and hardened concrete and hydration heat history, for effective using method of CKD, a by-product produced in the process of making cement. According to the results, as the replacing ratio of CKD increases, slump and air content of concrete decreases remarkably due to an increase of viscosity and filling of the pores. As the properties of setting, initial and final setting time are shortened with an increase of the replacing ratio of CKD, and as the replacement of CKD for fine aggregate increases, setting time is shortened more greatly. Compressive strength increases due to filling of the pores and reduction of air content in comparison with plain concrete. When the replacement ratio of CKD for cement is 10% and 15%, peak temperature of hydration heat lowers slightly, but it goes up in the case of replacement of CKD for fine aggregate. Also, when cement and fine aggregate is replaced with CKD by 2.5% and 7.5% respectively(1C3S) in the case of replacement of CKD for cement and fine aggregate, it is highest.

  • We experimented the physical property of the porous concrete by changing the water cement ratio, when the aggregate ratios are 1:5 and 1:7 separately. And then we received the results as follows. The bigger, the coarse grading of the porous concrete is, the more sensitive to the water cement ratio, the porous concrete becomes. And if we think over its compressive strength, the coarse aggregate which has 5-15mm width is most appropriate. So we concluded that when its compressive strength, permeability coefficient and its unit weight are $50kg/cm^{2}3cm/sec$ and $1900kg/m^{3}$ respectively, the water cement ratio which has 35-37% width is most appropriate, too. And its compressive strength and unit weight show that they are about a quarter and three quarters respectively about the conventional concrete.

  • This study was performed to develop the lightweight concrete using synthetic lightweight aggregate and natural coarse aggregate. Mixing ratios were three types, the first type was mixed cement and synthetic lightweight fine aggregate (Type CP), the second type was mixed cement, synthetic lightweight fine aggregate and synthetic lightweight coarse aggregate (Type CPE), the third type was mixed cement, synthetic lightweight fine aggregate and natural coarse aggregate (Type CPN). The results of this study are summarized as follows ; 1. The W/C of each mixing ratio was increased with increase of the amount of cement used, and it was shown higher in order of Type CP, CPN, CPE. 2. The unit weight of Type CP, CPE and CPN was 1.473~1.647g/cm$^3$, 1.467~1.622g/cm$^3$ and 1.658~1 .838g/cm$^3$, respectively. And the absorption ratio was approximately 20%, which was higher than that of the normal cement concrete. 3. The compressive strength of Type CP was shown 178 ~249kg/cm2, Type CPE was shown 149~241kg/cm$^2$ and Type CPN was shown 196~297kg/cm$^2$, respectively. Each strength ratio was smaller than that of the normal cement concrete. 4. The pulse velocity of Type CP, CPE and CPN was 2, 688~3, 240m/sec, 2, 981~3, 324m/sec and 2, 989 ~ 3, 545m/sec, respectively. And it was increased with increase of strength and unit weight. 5. The length change ratio at 28 days was in the range of 0.057~0.077%, and earlier length change ratio was higher than that of the later.

  • As the weight of trucks increases, the need for concrete pavement also increases. Therefore, the addition of fly-ash may improve the properties of pavement concrete as well as recycle fly-ash. A full factorial experiment was performed using the primary variables, such as water-cement ratio, fly-ash substitution ratio, and maximum size of coarse aggregate, as a preliminary study for optimum mixture design for pavement concrete. The results of preliminary study indicates that the addition of fly-ash is the most important factor determining concrete strength, followed by the maximum size of coarse aggregate and water-cement ratio. It, also, shows the relative importance of fly-ash substitution ratio, compared to the water-cement ratio, and the interaction effects between the primary variables. Optimum mixture designs for pavement concrete incorporating fly-ash, that satisfied the target responses, were proposed in terms of fly-ash substitution ratio, water cement ratio and maximum size of coarse aggregate.

  • Due to its capacity to address urgent environmental challenges connected to urbanization and stormwater management, pervious concrete, a sustainable and innovative material, has attracted a lot of attention recently. The aim of this study was to find the engineering characteristics of pervious concrete made from recycled aggregate (RA) at various aggregate-to-cement ratios (A/C) and the addition of 5% (by weight of total aggregate) of both natural and recycled fine aggregate to produce a very sustainable concrete product for a variety of applications. The three distinct aggregate-to-cement ratios, 6, 5, and 4, were used to produce pervious concrete using recycled aggregate in the research approach. The ratio of water to cement (w/c) was maintained at 0.3. Pervious concrete was created using single-sized recycled aggregate that passed through a 12.5 mm sieve and was held on a 9.5 mm sieve, as well as natural and recycled sand that passed through a 4 mm sieve. The production of twelve distinct concrete mixtures resulted in the testing of each concrete sample for dry density, abrasion resistance, compressive and splitting tensile strengths, porosity, and water permeability. A statistical method called GLM-ANOVA was also used to assess the characteristics of pervious concrete made using recycled aggregate. According to the experimental results, lowering the aggregate-to-cement ratio enhances the pervious concrete's overall performance. Additionally, a modest amount of fine aggregate boosts mechanical strength while lowering void content and water permeability. However, it was noted that such concretes' mechanical qualities were adversely affected to some extent. The results of this study offer insight into the viability of using recycled aggregates in order to achieve both structural integrity and environmental friendliness, which helps to optimize pervious concrete compositions.
