4G mobile networks are expected to support various multimedia services over IP networks and also satisfy high spectral efficiency requirement. In cellular systems including 4G networks, hotspot cells can occur when available wireless resources at some location are not enough to sustain the needs of users. The hotspot cell can potentially lead to blocked and dropped calls, which can deteriorate the service quality for users. In a 4G mobile network, a band of users enjoying multimedia services can move around, which may generate heavy flows of traffic load. This situation can generate the hotspot cell which has a short life span of only a few minutes. In this paper, we propose a handover-based scheme which can effectively manage hotspot cells in 4G mobile networks. With the scheme, the current serving cell can recognize the load status of the target cell in advance before handover execution. Adaptive handover time control according to the amount of traffic load of cells can effectively and flexibly manage the hotspot cell in the network. And, through our hotspot cell management scheme, acceptable service quality can be supported as users continuously maintain connections with the network. In the simulation results, we find that our scheme generates smaller number of hotspot cells and supports higher service quality than the compared schemes.

This study designed and implemented a J2ME based on mapping viewer to browse the SVG based wireless-map in mobile phone. This proposed technique was efficiently applied to a forest fire extinguishment information management system by mapping the exact location of important objects on wireless-map in wireless network. As the result, the study helps to guide the safe and efficient extinguishment affairs and provides the safe extinguishment environment for ground fire fighting teams in real time. And also this technique presents the way to move the client mapping function such as representation of the moving coordinates to server and made it possible to operate SVG based viewer in personal cellular phone.
Heterologous expression of glucose oxidase gene using recombinant yeast has been carried out. Polymerase chain reaction was conducted to obtain the gene encoding glucose oxidase from Aspergillus niger and sequence comparison indicated the cloned 1.9kb DNA fragment appeared to be the glucose oxidise structural gene containing a signal sequence for extracellular location. Transforming shuttle vector was constructed with YEp352 to express the cloned glucose oxidase gene under the control of either GAL1 or GAL10 promoter. Plate assay of recombinant yeasts has shown that GAL1 promoter was more effective in yielding glucose oxidise than GAL10 promoter. Among the five different concentrations of galactose tried, 1% galactose showed the highest induction of glucose oxidase. Cellular localization experiment of recombinant enzyme using spheroplast revealed that most of enzymes (80%) were secreted into culture media in contrast to A. niger. There is no difference in heat-stability of recombinant enzyme up to $50^{\circ}C$ compared to the glucose oxidase from A. niger However, a dramatic reduction of enzyme activity was observed in both enzymes at $60^{\circ}C$.

Purpose : This study was conducted to analyze the clinical materials and treatment results of 13 cases of subungual exostosis. Materials and Methods : Thirteen subungual exostoses of the foot treated from January 1991 to December 1997 were studied. We analyzed the clinical data and results of treatment to identify the clinical characteristics of this disease. We investigated the location, shape and relation of exostosis to phalanx with simple x-ray of the foot to identify the radiological characteristics. All the cases were sent to pathologic examination after resection to determine the pathological characteristics. Results : The results of physical examination on presentation were various. Most cases were located at the dorsomedial side of the distal phalanx and were involved in the toe nail. Eleven cases were located at great toes and one each at the 2nd and 3rd toe. Causes of exostosis were not clear, but 2 cases were related to trauma. For the type of exostosis, 7 cases were sessile and 6 were stalk type. On histologic examination, 9 cases showed a cartilaginous portion with overlying proliferating fibrous tissue and underlying bone formation. There was a gradual maturation of spindle cell proliferation from cartilage to cancellous bone. The cartilage was moderately cellular with some pleomorphism, but true anaplasia was not present. Conclusion : The clinical presentation and findings of simple x-rays were most helpful in diagnosing subungual exostosis. Complete excision of the mass achieved complete relief of symptoms and recovery without recurrence in all cases.
Viral surface proteins are known to play an essential role in attachment of the virus particle to the host cell membrane. In case of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) several reports have described potential receptors on the target cell side, but no definite receptor protein has been isolated yet. As for the viral side, it has been suggested that the preS region of the envelope protein, especially the preS1 region, is involved in binding of HBV to the host cell. In this study, preS1 region was recombinantly expressed in the form of a maltose binding protein (MBP) fusion protein and used to identify and visualize the expression of putative HBV receptor(s) on the host cell. Using laser scanned confocal microscopy and by FACS analysis, MBP-preS1 proteins were shown to bind to the human hepatoma cell line HepG2 in a receptor-ligand specific manner. The binding kinetic of MBP-preS1 to its cellular receptor was shown to be temperature and time dependent. In cells permeabilized with Triton X-100 and treated with the fusion protein, a specific staining of the nuclear membrane could be observed. To determine the precise location of the receptor binding site within the preS1 region, several short overlapping peptides from this region were synthesized and used in a competition assay. In this way the receptor binding epitope in preS1 was revealed to be amino acid residues 27 to 51, which is in agreement with previous reports. These results confirm the significance of the preS1 region in virus attachment in general, and suggest an internalization pathway mediated by direct attachment of the viral particle to the target cell membrane.
A filamentous form of mollicute-like bacterium was detected during a routine health survey of wild adult kuruma shrimp Penaeus japonicus. The kuruma shrimp were native to Japan and were imported to Korea. The histology showed no pathological changes. Transmission electron microscopy revealed extensive infections of hepatopancreatic epithelial cell by a pleomorphic, filamentous intracellular bacterium. The filamentous bacterium was of about 60 nm in diameter and 300 nm to more than $1{\mu}m$ in length. Teh morphology of bacteria were filamentous and branched with terminal blebs, or knobs, on the branches. They lacked the cell wall, and were bounded by the plasma membrane. They contained typical prokaryotic ribosomes and fibrillar DNA-like strands. No additional internal structure has been observed. They are considered to be mollicutes, based upon the morphological appearance and upon the cellular location.

Recently much attention has been devoted to femtocell's potential to improve indoor cellular coverage and high speed wireless communications. Femtocell based commercial services have been already launched in some countries and standardization activities are actively on-going, there has been concern however over potential issues of interference between femtocells and the micro/macro networks. With universal frequency reuse, the ensuing cross-tier interference causes unacceptable data rate and outage probability, so an analysis of effect of interference in femtocell embedded networks would be necessary for a stable system design. This paper investigates the effect of interference on system performances of femtocell embedded hierarchical cell structure (HCS) networks considering the characteristics of propagation environments. Various channel parameters are specially considered for indoor environments where most of femtocells are deployed to investigate the effect of interference of femtocell embedded RCS networks. System capacity and coverage are provided with variant distance between macrocell and femtocell, location of the user in femtocell coverage, and characteristic of building structures.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has a pathogenic role in several lymphomas including diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). In this study, we detected EBV from formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissues of DLBCL patients by RT-PCR and compared the sensitivity of the RT-PCR method to in situ hybridization (ISH) method. The RNA was extracted from 91 FFPE samples with DLBCL and amplified with primers targeting EBV-encoded small RNA (EBER) by RT-PCR. When using the RT-PCR method, 13 of 91 patients (14.3%) were positive and among these 13 cases, 7 cases (7.7%) were from > 50-year-old patients that is classified as EBV positive DLBCL of the elderly. In previous results using ISH method, 3 of 91 patients (3.3%) were positive and 2 case (2.4%) were older than 50-year-old. These results indicate that RT-PCR method used in this study shows a higher sensitivity than ISH method. The ratio of male versus female among the EBV positive samples was 1.2:1 with the ratio of male higher. If RT-PCR method having high sensitivity is used simultaneously as well as the ISH method providing the information of the EBV positive cellular location, it is expected that EBV will be more accurately detected.

Apoptosis is a form of cell death in which the cells shrink and exhibit nuclear chromatin condensation and DNA fragmentation, and yet maintain membrane integrity. Many lines of evidence have shown that brain neurons are vulnerable to degeneration by apoptosis. Also it has been suggested that apoptosis is one of the mechanism contributing neuronal loss in Alzheimer's disease(AD), since the conditions in the disease($A{\beta}$ peptide, oxidative stress, low energy metabolism) are the inducers that activate apoptosis. Indeed some neurons in vulnerable regions of the AD brain show DNA damage, chromatin condensation, and apoptic bodies. Consistently, mutations in AD causative genes(Amyloid precursor protein, Presenilin-1 and Presenilin- 2) increase $A{\beta}$$peptide_{1-42}(A{\beta}_{1-42})$ and sensitize neuronal cell to apoposis. However, several lines of evidence have shown that the location of neuronal loss and $A{\beta}$ peptide deposition is not correlated in AD brain and transgenic mice brain over-expressing $A{\beta}_{1-42}$. Taken together, these data may indicated that $A{\beta}$ peptide(and other causative factors of AD) can interact with other cellular insults or risk factors to exacerbate pathological mechansim of AD through apoptosis. Thus, this review discusses possible role and mechanism of apoptosis in AD.
TBX3 has demonstrated oncogenic activity as a downstream target of the Wnt/$\beta$-catenin signaling pathway. In this study, the aim was to determine whether overexpression of the TBX3 protein is involved in the development and/or progression of gastric cancers. We analyzed the expression pattern of the TBX3 and $\beta$-catenin proteins in a series of 186 sporadic gastric cancers. Altered expression of the TBX3 and $\beta$-catenin proteins was observed in 54 (29.0%) and 48 (25.8%) of the 186 gastric cancers. Statistically, overexpression of the TBX3 and $\beta$-catenin proteins was not associated with the clinical and pathological parameters studied including: histological type, tumor location, tumor size, and the 5-year survival (P>0.05). However, TBX3 overexpression was closely associated with lymph node metastasis and aberrant $\beta$-catenin expression (P<0.05). In addition, overexpression of the TBX3 protein was confirmed by Western blot analysis of primary gastric cancer tissues and cell lines. These data suggest that TBX3 overexpression may play a role in the development and progression of sporadic gastric cancers.
