  • A novel recovery method was developed to obtain the plant cell and its debris from Taxus chinensis cell cultures By pH control of plant cell cultures plant cell and debris was precipitated. The best pH is between 1.8 and 2.2 to obtain the precipitate of the plant cell and debris. Also paclitaxel is stable in this acidic conditions. This method is very simple an efficient to recover the plant cell and debris from plant cell cultures.

  • The size and concentration of wear debris in lubricating oil often reveal the operating condition of the rotating machinery. To evaluate the possible application of light attenuation measurement for the estimation of wear debris concentration in the lubricating oil, the light transmittance through the lubricating oil cell contaminated with various concentrations of diatomite particles was measured, the attenuation coefficient was estimated from the transmittance measurement and the coefficients were compared with those obtained from the scattering theory. The comparision showed good agreements between them. It is also noted that the experimentally determined attenuation coefficient showed almost linear relation with particle weight concentrations for the concentrations within the range of 2000 ppm. For the case of 0 ppm weight concentration of diatomite particles in the lubricating oil cell, the thickness of the cell required to give $100 \mu W$ light attenuation is 7.75 mm. This result indicates that the light attenuation method will be one of the possible candidates of machine failure diagnostic sensors for the estimation of wear debris concentration in the lubricating oil.

  • Many useful biomaterials like enzymes are contained in yeast cells. However, the release of these intracellular biomateriais from the cells is required to recover them with hot water, solvent or various cell breakage methods of mechanical or non mechanical ones. The cell lysis or breakage of yeast is usually made by solvent like ethyl acetate and mechanical disintrgration with high pressure homogenizer or agitating beads mill. The separation of cell debris (i.e. solid liquid separation) is done by centrifuge or membrane depending on the recovery conditions. The features of both separation methods are shown in Tables 1 and 2. As it is often difficult to obtain a clear supernatant by centrifuge from the suspension containing cell debris, the membrane separation is also often used to gel a clear supernatant. In this report we introduce the several applications of membrane separation to separate the cell debris of yeast disintegrated chemically or mechanically and to recover the intracellular biomaterials.

  • The production of recombinant proteins in Escherichia coli often leads to the formation of an intracellular inclusion body. Key process steps that can determine the economics of large-scale protein production from inclusion bodies are fermentation, inclusion body recovery, and protein refolding. Compared with protein refolding and fermentation, inclusion body recovery has received scant research attention. Nevertheless, it can control the final product yield and hence process cost for some products. Optimal separation of inclusion bodies and cell debris can also aid subsequent operations by removing contaminant particulates that foul chromatographic resins and contain antigenic pyrogens. In this review, the properties of inclusion bodies and cellular debris are therefore examined. Attempts to optimise the centrifugal separation of inclusion bodies and debris are also discussed.

  • Submicron-sized polymeric particles (SSPP) were used to remove nucleic acids and endotoxins from cell lysates. The positively charged SSPP selectively adsorb nucleic acids and endotoxins and form complexes with them. The complexes can be easily removed by sedimentation or centrifugation. The removal of nucleic acids and endotoxins using SSPP also can be accomplished in the presence of cell and cell debris. Therefore, nucleic acids and endotoxins can be removed in an initial step of the down-stream processes. In bakers yeast and E. coli lysate systems, the level of DNA could be reduced more than three orders of magnitudes and endotoxins more than seven orders of magnitudes concurrently willi the cell debris removal process using SSPP.

  • Floating debris provides substrates for dispersal of organisms by ocean currents, including algae that thrive on plastics. The 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Tohuku, Japan resulted in large amounts of debris carried by the North Pacific Current to North America from 2012 to 2016. In 2015-2016, the plastics in the debris bore a complex biota including pink algal crusts. One sample (JAW4874) was isolated into culture and a three-gene phylogeny (psbA, rbcL, and SSU) indicated it was an unknown member of the red algal class Stylonematophyceae. It is a small pulvinate crust of radiating, branched, uniseriate filaments with cells containing a single centrally suspended nucleus and a single purple to pink, multi-lobed, parietal plastid lacking a pyrenoid. Cells can be released as spores that attach and germinate to form straight filaments by transverse apical cell divisions, and subsequent longitudinal and oblique intercalary divisions produce masses of lateral branches. This alga is named Tsunamia transpacifica gen. nov. et sp. nov. Sequencing of additional samples of red algal crusts on plastics revealed another undescribed Stylonematophycean species, suggesting that these algae may be frequent on drift oceanic plastics.

  • Warhead and debris show the different micro-Doppler frequency shape in the spectrogram because of the different micro motion. So we can classify them using the micro-Doppler features. In this paper, we classified warhead and debris in the separation phase using CNN(Convolutional Neural Networks). For the input image of CNN, we used micro-Doppler spectrogram. In addition, to improve classification performance of warhead and debris, we applied the preprocessing using CA-CFAR to the micro-Doppler spectrogram. As a result, when the preprocessing of micro-Doppler spectrogram was used, classification performance is improved in all signal-to-noise ratio(SNR).

  • The dredged sediment management system was developed to have an objective, quantitative and scientific decision for the optimum removal time of dredged sediments behind debris barrier and was set up at the real site. The dredged sediment management system is designed and developed to directly measure the dredged sediments behind debris barrier in the field. This management system is composed of Data Acquisition System (DAS), Solar System and measurement units for measuring the weight of dredge sediments. The weight of dredged sediments, the water level and the rainfall are measured in real time using the monitoring sensors, and their data can be transmitted to the office through a wireless communication method. The monitoring sensors are composed of the rain gauge to measure rainfall, the load cell system to measure the weight of dredged sediments, and water level meter to measure the water level behind debris barrier. The management criteria of dredged sediments behind debris barrier was suggested by using the weight of dredged sediments. At first, the maximum weight of dredged sediments that could be deposited behind debris barrier was estimated. And then when 50%, 70% and 90% of the maximum dredged sediments weight were accumulated behind debris barrier, the management criteria were divided into phases of Outlooks, Watch and Warning, respectively. The weight of dredged sediments can be monitored by using the dredged sediment management system behind debris barrier in real time, and the condition of debris barrier and the removal time of dredged sediments can be decided based on monitoring results.

  • A number of investigations and studies have been conducted in various fields regarding the sediment disasters of Mt. Woomyeon that occurred in July 2011. We collected and compared the topographic information of the general points where debris flows did not occur and the collapse points where the debris flow occurred in order to find out the characteristics of the collapse points in Woomyeon mountain. The collected topographic information is altitude, curvature, slope, aspect and TPI(topographic position index). As a result of comparison, there were relatively many collapse points at an altitude of 210m to 250m, and at a slope of 30° to 40°. In addition, the risk of collapse was low in a cell where the curvature was close to 0, and the risk was higher in concave terrain than in convex terrain. In the case of TPI, there was no statistical difference between the general points and the collapse points when the analysis radius was larger than 200m, and there was a correlation with the curvature when the analysis radius was smaller than 50m. In the case of debris flows that are affected by artificial structures or facilities, there is a possibility of disturbing the topographic analysis results. Therefore, if a research on debris flow is conducted on a mountain area that is heavily exposed to human activities, such as Woomyeon mountain, diversified factors must be considered to account for this impact.
