Fatigue Damage Detection and Vibration Sensing Using Intensity-Based Optical Fiber Sensors (광강도형 광섬유센서를 이용한 피로손상 및 진동감지)

  • Fatigue damage detection and vibration sensing for a laminated composites and impact location detection for a steel beam have been carried out using optical fiber sensor. Intensity based optical fiber sensor is constructed by placing two cleaved fiber end in a hollow glass tube, and multiple reflection within the cavity is considered. Fatigue signals are measured by embedded optical fiber, surface mounted optical fiber sensor and strain gage simultaneously. For vibration sensing, optical fiber sensor is mounted on the carbon fiber composite beam and its response to free vibration and forced vibration is investigated. In impact location detection, two optical fiber sensors are used and the information obtained from two sensors is arrival time delay of vibration caused by impact. Impact location can be calculated from this time delay. The obtained results show that the intensity based optical fiber sensor provide reliable data during long-term fatigue loading, unlike strain gage which deteriorate during the early part of the fatigue test. Optical fiber sensor signals coincide with gap sensor in vibration sensing. The precise locations of impact can be detected within 4.1% error limit.

  • We introduce a simple optically passive detection scheme for Bragg grating sensors. This detection scheme is based on two cavity lengths in Fabry-Perot read-out interferometers to produce two quadrature phase shifted signals from the Bragg grating sensor. The passive detection technique is demonstrated by the use of Bragg grating sensors in measuring the dynamic vibrations of the composites.

The laser operating program is used inspection for profile. very small hole using installed feature data. Structural Analysis of a Cavitary Region Created by Femtosecond Laser Process

  • Femtosecond laser machining has been applied for creating a sensor function in silica glass optical fibers. Femtosecond laser pulses make it possible to fabricate micro structures in processed regions of a very thin glass fiber line because femtosecond laser pulses can extremely minimize thermal effects. With the laser machining to optical fiber using a single shot of 210-fs laser at a wavelength of 800 nm, it was observed that a processed region surrounded a thin layer which seemed to be a hollow cavity monitored by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). This study aims at a theoretical investigation for the processed region by using a numerical analysis in order to embed sensing function to optical fibers. Numerical methods based finite element method (FEM) has been used for an optical waveguide modeling. This report suggests two types modeling and describes a comparative study on optical losses obtained by the experiment and the numerical analysis.

  • 연료전지는 수소를 이용하여 전기를 생산하는 발전 시스템으로 운전 중 수소 누출과 폭발의 위험성을 항상 수반하고 있다. 따라서 안전성의 확보를 위해 연료전지 시스템 내부에서 수소 누출 시 유e동 특성으로 인한 특정 부근 농도 정체와 환기의 영향을 파악하는 것이 필요하다. 실험 장치와 전산유체역학 프로그램을 사용하여 챔버 내 수소의 유통 특성과 환기구에 따른 환기의 영향을 확인하였다. 수소의 누출 속도와 양에 따라 유동장의 형태는 크게 변하였으며 환기구의 위치와 크기는 특정 부근의 농도정체와 챔버 내 전체적인 수소 농도에 영향을 미침으로서 안정성을 확보하는 중요한 인자임을 알 수 있었다. 예측 결과를 실제 실험 모델과 비교하여 그 타당성을 검토하였으며 차후 가정용 연료전지 모듈의 환기구 설계에 적용할 수 있다.

  • This study proposes the temperature compensation algorithm using thermopile detector for non-dispersive infrared Nitrogen gas sensor. From the output voltage of thermistor that is attached onto the infrared detector, the ambient temperature was extracted. The effects of temperatures on the properties of sensor module characteristics of narrow bandpass filter, optical cavity and infrared lamp, and air mixing gas have been introduced in order to implement the temperature compensation algorithm.

  • 본 논문에서는 두 개의 오목 반사경으로 형성된 광 공동 구조의 비문산 적외선 (NDIR) 가스센서를 제작하였다. 증폭비는 18,000 배, 램프 off 시간은 3초로 일정하게 하고 펄스 modulation 시간을 200ms에서 600ms까지 변화시켰을 때. 300ms에서 가장 효율적인 출력신호를 확보할 수 있었다. 그리고 $5^{\circ}C$에서 $45^{\circ}C$까지 $10^{\circ}C$ 간격으로 온도를 변화시키면서 이산화탄소의 농도를 0ppm에서 2000ppm까지 증가시켰다. 이때, 약 400mV의 전압변화가 있었다. 온도가 상승함에 따라 0ppm에서의 출력전압은 감소하는 양상을 나타내었다. 또한 온도변화 대비 출력특성과의 상관성 해석을 통하여 온도 보상 방법을 고안하였으며, 본 연구에서 제작한 센서모듈의 응답시간은 약 30초였다.

Temperature Compensation of NDIR $CO_{2}$ Gas Sensor Implemented with ASIC Chip (ASIC 칩 내장형 비분산 적외선 이산화탄소 가스센서의 온도보상)

  • This paper describes NDIR $CO_{2}$ gas sensor that shows the characteristics of temperature compensation. It consists of novel optical cavity that has two elliptical mirrors and a thermopile that includes ASIC chip in the same metal package for the amplification of detector output voltage and temperature sensor. The newly developed sensor module shows high accuracy ($less\;than {\pm}40\;ppm$) throughout the measuring concentration of $CO_{2}$ gas from 0 ppm to 2,000 ppm. After implementing the calculation methods of gas concentration, which is based upon the experimental results, the sensor module shows high accuracy less than ${\pm}5\;ppm$ error throughout the measuring temperature range ($15^{\circ}C\;to\;35$^{\circ}C$) and gas concentrations with self-temperature compensation.
