Automotive seat is a part to supply the convenience and safety of driver at driving. Recently, the seat has the role to protect driver from the outside impact or vibration and give the convenience except such a usage as chair. The design on structural function of the seat frame is important like the impact safety and durability. In this study, the seat is designed by adding one hollow rod to the part of seat back frame in order to enhance the structural safety and durability. This study was carried out by using CATIA and ANSYS as the design and analysis programs. As this study result through the structural and vibrational analyses, model 4 was seen to have the durability more superior than the other models. By utilizing this result, it is thought to be the useful material at designing the automotive seat frame with durability. It is possible to be grafted onto the convergence technique at the automotive seat frame and show the esthetic sense.

High machining technology is needed for manufacturing jet engines for use in aircrafts. To reduce errors in the jet engine machining process, the machining companies of aircraft engines have introduced the CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) technology. However, to create a CAM model, the operator must manually conduct machining operations based on a CAD (computer-aided design) model, which can take several days or weeks. To solve this problem, this study proposes a method for automatically generating a CAM model for machining holes in the parts, using a CAD model. In this method, the features of the hole are recognized from the CAD model and translated into machining operations to be used with the CATIA program. Additionally, a prototype system was implemented and the proposed method was experimentally verified.

In product development, CAD and CAE systems taking part in the design process were individually developed. Furthermore, in product development, different divisions and businesses often have heterogeneous CAD/CAE systems and methods for expressing product data, and addressing this heterogeneity creates additional costs and causes longer development periods. To ensure successful collaboration in the design process, it is therefore imperative that different CAD, CAE, and other related systems be managed in an organic and integrated manner from the initial stages of product development. Therefore, this study suggests an integrated CAD/CAE system including optimization in a more effective and integrated manner but also to support interfacing and the collective use of design and analysis tools. To validate the proposed method, a stiffened plate example is taken as an example. It is found that the proposed method could overcome the bottleneck of CAD and CAE such as transferability of data, though CATIA and ANSYS are used at the moment. Besides, carrying out an optimization process during the CAE process is another essential parts for the structural optimization process.
The thermal performance for test system with evacuated tubular solar collector is experimentally investigated to obtain the basis data for developing new type solar collector. For this purpose, the test system was designed using CATIA and then after being manufactured, the system was tested using evacuated tubular solar collector. Numerical analysis, furthermore, was performed using ANSYS Fluent V.13 for glass evacuated tubular solar collector. The results showed that as setting temperature difference(${\Delta}T$) of system was increased, total operating(working) time was almost same in all cases, even though operating count was decreased. The results of numerical analysis showed that as temperature of solar absorber in glass evacuated tubular solar collector was high, the drop-rate of temperature of center part was increased.

In this research, a MDO(multi-disciplinary design optimization) framework, which integrates aerodynamic and structural analysis to design an aircraft wing, is constructed. Whole optimization process is automated by a parametric-modeling approach. A CFD mesh is generated automatically from parametric modeling of CATIA and Gridgen followed by automatic flow analysis using Fluent. Finite element mesh is generated automatically by parametric method of MSC.Patran PCL. Aerodynamic load is transferred to Finite element model by the volume spline method. RSM(Response Surface Method) is applied for optimization, which helps to achieve global optimum. As the design problem to test the current MDO framework, a wing weight minimization with constraints of lift-drag ratio and deflection of the wing is selected. Aspect ratio, taper ratio and sweepback angle are defined as design variables. The optimization result demonstrates the successful construction of the MDO framework.

Assembly using a bolt and nut, and rivet or pin have been used widely for forming mechanical joints. The indent method is an easier process than other manufacturing techniques and the toughness of the material is excellent. On the other hand, there are many cases in which the cracks occur on the manufacturing process as the indent method. Therefore, two kinds of models, in which a pin goes into and out PCB plate in this study were developed using the CATIA program and finite element methods were performed using the ANSYS program. When a pin was passed through a PCB plate in cases 1 and 2, the maximum loads applied to the PCB plate were 79.708N and 90.277N, respectively. When the PCB plate came out of the pin in cases 1 and 2, the maximum loads were 63.783N and 33.75N, respectively. The damage prevention and durability can be improved by applying the study results to the design of real indentation.
Recently, work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) become a hot issue in the industrial fields. To prevent the potential risk of workers, various approaches have been adopted. One of the approaches is to improve the design of product, that of jig (or fixture) and that of workstation in the early stage of the development. 3D simulation technology is known as the powerful method for detecting such problems before constructing the workstation, because it is possible to evaluate the posture of worker using 3D models in a cyber space. It enables to find the unexpected problems and save the time and cost for redesign and rework. This paper introduces a 3D simulation case study of workers in an excavator factory. 3D models of products, jigs were developed with CATIA. The assembly processes were animated in IGRIP and DPM. Finally the various postures of worker were simulated using Human. As a result, some postures were analysed as the risky jobs and the result of simulation was used to improve the system.

While it is generally possible to install curved panels manufactured in a factory within the permitted error range on an irregular surface frame of concrete or steel, it is difficult and expensive. Freeform architecture is thus designed and constructed differently from formal buildings. In order to more easily and inexpensively actualize freeform architecture, Building Information Modeling (hereinafter referred to as BIM) has recently been applied in the construction industry. However, the related research and case analyses are not sufficient to identify the implications and contributions of freeform buildings in future similar projects. Therefore, this research will study design and construction methods for freeform surfaces, particular the concrete surface frame of freeform buildings based on BIM, focused on the Tri-Bowl project. This study attempts to analyze the pros and cons of each method for the concrete surface frame of the Tri-Bowl, and then presents the lessons learned and implications related to the design and construction process of the freeform architecture. Several implications for design and construction of concrete surface frame of the freeform building, the Tri-Bowl, are found. The first is that manufacturing and installation of a curved concrete frame is precisely performed based on the exact numerical values of materials and installation made using BIM 3D technologies, such as CATIA and Rhino. The second is that close and continuous collaboration among the different participants in the construction of the Tri-Bowl allowed them to cope with virtual conditions. The third is that design and construction processes have changed, and high quality of the surface frame of a freeform building is required.
Virtual manufacturing (VM) is a powerful technology for developing a new product, new equipment and new manufacturing system, and three-dimensional (3D) simulation is a core technology in VM. 3D simulation involves both mechanical simulation and discrete event simulation. This paper introduces a case study of implementing 3D simulation for developing an automatic assembly line in a Korean optical factory. This factory produces a lens module that is the part of a phone-camera. 3D simulation technology is applied from the early stage of development. In the conceptual design and the initial design phases for individual equipment, 3D mechanical simulation using $CATIA^{(R)}$ and $IGRIP^{(R)}$ is conducted. 3D discrete event simulation with $QUEST^{(R)}$ is applied to the detailed design of the equipment and of the whole system. The focus of the simulation is to verify the technical and economical feasibility of the new automatic system. As a result, the takt time is reduced to the quarter of the manual system, and the number of workers in a line is reduced tremendously.
In this study, the flow analysis due to the car body configuration of air breather was carried out. As the resistance force whose flow affects car body has been studied, it is published that the electricity can be decreased. When the inner pressure of air breather is evaluated, there is the study of efficiency in order to raise the flow rate of inner body. At a total of five models, it is shown that the air resistance and pressure happen differently and the air pressure of side flow is changed. This study result was analyzed by using the analysis program of ANSYS, a study model was modelled using the CATIA V5 modelling program. It was investigated that the air flow rate was distributed uniformly as the curved surface of air breather configuration increases. It is thought as the most effective design method to design the air breather by considering the effect on the air resistance and flow. Also, through the design of the vehicle's airbrid configuration, the design of the product can incorporate a aesthetic sense into the design.
