In this paper, effect of catalytic configuration on the sensing properties of $SnO_2$ nanoparticle gas sensitive thick film was investigated. Two types of catalytic configuration, mono and binary, were made on the $SnO_2$ nanoparticle. In case of mono catalytic system, $3 wt\%$ Pd or Pt catalyst was doped onto the $SnO_2$ nanoparticle, respectively. In case of binary catalytic system, Pd and Pt was doped simultaneously with concentration ratio of 1:2 to 2:1 onto the $SnO_2$ nanoparticle. After doping, gas sensitive thick film was printed on alumina substrate and heat-treated at 450 to $600^{\circ}C$. Gas sensing properties was evaluated using 500 to 10,000 ppm $CH_4$ gas. As a result, gas sensitive thick film with binary catalytic system showed unstable phenomena that the gas sensitivity was changed according to aging time. In contrary, the mono catalytic system showed relatively stable phenomena despite of aging time. Especially, gas sensitive thick film doped with $3 wt\%$ Pt catalyst and heat-treated at $500^{\circ}C$ showed good sensing properties such as 0.57 of $R_{3500}/R_{1000}$ and very small variation within $3.5\%$ after aging for 5 hours, and response time was very short less than 20 seconds.
The structural stability of brain pyrydoxine-5'-phosphate (PNP) oxidase and the catalytic properties of the monomeric species were investigated. The unfolding of brain pyridoxine-5'-phosphate (PNP) oxidase by guanidine hydrochloride (GuHCl) was monitored by means of fluorescence and circular dichroism spectroscopy Reversible dissociation of the dimeric enzyme into subunits was attained by the addition of 2 M GuHCl. The perturbation of the secondary structure under the denaturation condition resulted in the release of the cofactor FMN. Separation of the processes of refolding and reassociation of the monomeric species was achieved by the immobilization method. Dimeric PNP oxidase was immobilized by the covalent attachment to Affi-gel 15 without any significant lass of its catalytic activity. Matrix-bound monomeric species were obtained from the reversible refolding processes. The matrix bound-monomer was found to be catalytically active, possessing only a slightly decreased specific activity when compared to the refolded dimeric enzyme. In addition, limited chymotrypsin digestion of the oxidase yields two fragments of 12 and 161 kDa with a concomitant increase of catalytic activity The catalytically active fragment was isolated by ion exchange chromatography and analyzed for association of two subunits using the FPLC gel filtration analysis. The retention time indicated that the catalytic fragment of 16 kDa behaves as a compact monomer. Taken together, these results are consistent with the hypothesis that the native quaternary structure of PNP oxidase is not a prerequisite for catalytic function, but it could play a role in the regulation.
This work reports studies of the catalytic and structural properties of pyridoxal kinase (ATP: pyridoxal 5' -phosphotransferase, EC. 2.7.1.35), Pyridoxal kinase catalyzes the phosphorylation of vitamin $B_6$ (pyridoxal, pyridoxamine, pyridoxine) using ATP-Zn as a phosphoryl donor. The enzyme purified from brain tissues is made up of two identical subunits of 40 kDa each. Native enzyme was inhibited by a substrate analogue, pyridoxal-oxime. Limited chymotrypsin digestion of pyridoxal kinase yields two fragments of 24 and 16 kDa with concomitant loss of catalytic activity. These fragments were isolated by DEAE ion exchange chromatography and used for binding studies with fluorescent ATP and pyridoxal analogues. The spectroscopic properties of both fluorescent pyridoxal analogue and Anthraniloyl ATP (Ant-ATP) bound to the 24 kDa fragment are indistinguishable from those of both pyridoxal analogue and Ant-ATP bound to the native pyridoxal kinase, respectively. The small 16 kDa fragment, generated by proteolytic cleavage of the kinase, does not bind any of the substrate analogues. Binding characteristics of Ant-ATP were extensively studied by measuring the changes in fluorescence spectra at various conditions. From the results presented herein, it is postulated that the structural domain associated with catalytic activity comprises approximately one-half of the molecular mass of pyridoxal kinase (24 kDa). whereas the remaining portion (16 kDa) of the enzyme contains a regulatory binding domain.
Modified inert gas condensation method was used to produce the nanocluster composites of $CuO/CeO_2$. High-resolution TEM, SEM and catalytic measurements have been used to characterize the samples and study the synergistic effect between the CuO phase and $CeO_2$(ceria) support. By varying the He pressure, the heating temperature and configuration of the heating boats inside the modified gas condensation chamber, nanoclusters of varying sizes, shapes and composition can be produced. The composition and nanostructured morphology were shown to influence the catalytic properties of the system. A copper content around 10 at% with a morphology that favors high-energy surfaces of ceria is shown to be beneficial for a high catalytic activity.
ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized through a facile route and were used as ozonation catalysts. With the increase of calcination temperature ($150-300^{\circ}C$), surface hydroxyl groups and catalytic efficiency of asobtained ZnO decreased remarkably, and the ZnO obtained at $150^{\circ}C$ showed the best catalytic activity. Compared with ozonation alone, the degradation efficiency of phenol increased above 50% due to the catalysis of ZnO-150. In the reaction temperatures range from $5^{\circ}C$ to $35^{\circ}C$, ZnO nanocatalyst revealed remarkable catalytic properties, and the catalytic effect of ZnO was better at lower temperature. Through the effect of tertbutanol on degradation of phenol and the catalytic properties of ZnO on degradation of nitrobenzene, it was proposed that the degradation of phenol was ascribed to the direct oxidation by ozone molecules based on solidliquid interface reaction.
Polyalkylsiloxane has been spotlighted in pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) application due to excellent physical properties and good biocompatibility. Thermal behaviour of polyalkylsiloxane mixtures, such as thermal stability and heat flow, were studied using TG-DTA during catalytic hydrosilation. To understand reaction kinetics of cross-linking, catalytic hydrosilation of polyalkylsiloxane was monitored using variable temperature nuclear magnetic resonance (VT-NMR) as increased temperature. The formation of cross-linking bond $Si-CH_2-CH_2-Si$ was directly observed using distortionless enhanced by polarization transfer (DEPT) technique. Successfully polyalkylsiloxane PSA samples exhibited excellent adhesion properties by cross-linking reaction.
Isopropylation of phenol with 2-propanol has been carried out over Na-exchanged ZSM-5 zeolites to determine the effect of catalyst acidity on phenol conversion and product selectivity. The acid type and strength of the catalyst such as Lewis, weak and strong Bronsted acid sites are measured by pyridine adsorbed XPS and the catalytic properties are interpreted in terms of the acid properties. The active site and mechanism for the reaction are suggested based on evidence of study from the reactant adsorbed FT-IR.
In the present study, potassium and caesium doped Ag/$Al_2O_3$ catalysts were synthesized by simple wet impregnation method and evaluated for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx using methane. TEM analysis and diffraction patterns demonstrated the finely dispersed Ag particles. BET surface measurements reveal that the prepared materials have moderate to high surface area and the metal amount found from ICP analysis was well matching with the theoretical loadings. The synthesized K-Ag/$Al_2O_3$ and Cs-Ag/$Al_2O_3$ catalysts exhibited a promotional effect on deNOx activity in the presence of $SO_2$ and $H_2O$. The long-term isothermal studies at $550^{\circ}C$ under oxygen rich condition showed the superior catalytic properties of the both alkali promoted samples. The crucial catalytic properties of materials are attributed to NO adsorption properties detected by the NO TPD.
Nanoscale noble-metals have attracted enormous attention from researchers in various fields of study because of their unusual optical properties as well as novel chemical properties. They have possible uses in diverse applications such as devices, transistors, optoelectronics, information storages, and energy converters. It is well-known that nanoparticles of noble-metals such as silver and gold show strong absorption bands in the visible region due to their surface-plasmon oscillation modes of conductive electrons. Silver nanocubes stand out from various types of Silver nanostructures (e.g., spheres, rods, bars, belts, and wires) due to their superior performance in a range of applications involvinglocalized surface plasmon resonance, surface-enhanced Raman scattering, and biosensing. In addition, extensive efforts have been devoted to the investigation of Gold-based nanocomposites to achieve high catalytic performances and utilization efficiencies. Furthermore, as the catalytic reactivity of Silver nanostructures depends highly on their morphology, hollow Gold nanoparticles having void interiors may offer additional catalytic advantages due to their increased surface areas. Especially, hollow nanospheres possess structurally tunable features such as shell thickness, interior cavity size, and chemical composition, leading to relatively high surface areas, low densities, and reduced costs compared with their solid counterparts. Thus, hollow-structured noblemetal nanoparticles can be applied to nanometer-sized chemical reactors, efficient catalysts, energy-storage media, and small containers to encapsulate multi-functional active materials. Silver nanocubes dispersed in water have been transformed into Ag@Au nanoboxes, which show highly enhanced catalytic properties, by adding $HAuCl_4$. By using this concept, $SiO_2$-coated Ag@Au nanoboxes have been synthesized via galvanic replacement of $SiO_2$-coated Ag nanocubes. They have lower catalytic ability but more stability than Ag@Au nanoboxes do. Thus, they could be recycled. $SiO_2$-coated Ag@Au nanoboxes have been found to catalyze the degradation of 4-nitrophenol efficiently in the presence of $NaBH_4$. By changing the amount of the added noble metal salt to control the molar ratio Au to Ag, we could tune the catalytic properties of the nanostructures in the reduction of the dyes. The catalytic ability of $SiO_2$-coated Ag@Au nanoboxes has been found to be much more efficient than $SiO_2$-coated Ag nanocubes. Catalytic performances were affected noteworthily by the metals, sizes, and shapes of noble-metal nanostructures.
