  • Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder defined by impairments in social interaction and verbal and nonverbal communication. Purpose: Determine the association between use of assisted reproduction technology (ART) and the risk of ASD among children. Methods: This case-control study included 300 participants (100 cases, 200 controls). The control group included women with a child aged 2-10 years without ASD, while the cases were women with a child aged 2-10 years with ASD. We used a researcher-made questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Stata ver. 14 at the 0.05 significance level. Results: In the univariate analysis, there was significant association between child sex, delivery mode, history of preterm delivery, history of using ART, and maternal age at child's birth and the risk of ASD. After the adjustment for other variables, this association was significant for male sex (2.66; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.11-4.31; P=0.001) and history of using ART (4.03; 95% CI, 1.76-9.21; P=0.001). Therefore, after the adjustment for confounder variables, there was no significant association between ART and the risk of ASD among children (4.98; 95% CI, 0.91-27.30; P=0.065). Conclusion: After the adjustment for other variables, risk factors for ASD were male sex and history preterm delivery. Thus, there was no significant association between ART and the risk of ASD among children.

  • We experienced a case of herpes zoster in a 9-months aged infant as followings; The patient had no history of chickenpox or varicella vaccination. Also, her mother had no history of varicella infection and no contact history with varicella during pregnancy. The patient had only a history of exposure to chickenpox patient at 7th days after birth, but fortunately chickenpox was not developed. Sequentially, symptoms of cough with fever and tachypnea were developed on admission date(7 days had passed already after development of the initial skin lesion). On physical examination, multiple grouped painless erythematous papulovesicles with small crusts were observed on the right lower back, flank and abdomen along the T11 dermatome. Coarse breathing sound was osculated, and increased linear infiltrations on both parahilar areas were seen on chest radiography. Liver enzymes were slightly elevated. Tzanck test was negative. The initial titers of anti-VZV IgM and IgG on admission were negative, but the following titers of anti-VZV IgM and IgG were positive. The patient received treatment of acyclovir for 7 days, and healed completely without sequelae. We report this case with brief review of related literatures.

  • Bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ) occurs mainly in female patients. In males the occurrence rate is low, which seems to be related to the low incidence of osteoporosis in men. Unfortunately, BRONJ tends to be ignored in general dental clinics in male patients with a history of osteoporosis treatment. BRONJ occurred in a male patient due to the clinician's lack of interest in the patient's history. In this case, the male patient was on bisphosphonate therapy because of a orchiectomy, and a dental treatment was performed without consideration of his medical history, resulting in BRONJ. We performed careful examinations and treatment with antibiotics and surgical operations. The postoperative healing was successful. In light of this particular case, we concluded that careful listening to the patient's history is very important.

  • Under strong ground motion, pounding can be caused because of the different dynamic properties between two adjacent buildings. Using different structural systems in two adjacent structures makes a difference in the lateral stiffness and thus changes the pounding force between them. In this paper, the effect of the structural system of adjacent buildings on the amount of force applied by pounding effects has been investigated. Moment resisting frame systems (MRFs), lateral X-bracing system (LBS), shear wall system (SWS) and dual system (DS) have been investigated. Four different cases has been modelled using finite element (FE) method. The number of stories of the two adjacent buildings is different in each case: case 1 with 6 and 4 stories, case 2 with 9 and 6 stories, case 3 with 15 and 6 stories and case 4 with 10 and 10 stories. The structures have been modelled three-dimensionally. Non-linear time history analysis has been done on the structures using the finite element software SAP2000. In order to model pounding effects, the non-linear gap elements have been used.

  • This study analyzes upper arm as the part of suspension through the structural analyses of fatigue. Maximum displacement is shown at the knuckle joint connected with the bracket of automotive body. Among the cases of nonuniform fatigue loads, 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load becomes most unstable but 'Sample history' becomes most stable. Maximum life at 'Sample history' or 'SAE transmission' can be shown with 60 or 3.5 times more than 'SAE bracket history' respectively. In case of 'Sample history' with the average stress of $-4{\times}10^4$ to $4{\times}10^4$ MPa and the amplitude stress 0 to $8{\times}10^4$ MPa, the possibility of maximum damage becomes 3%. This stress state can be shown with 5 or 6 times more than the damage possibility of 'SAE Bracket history' or 'SAE transmission'. This study result is applied with the design of upper arm and it can be useful at predicting prevention and durability against its damage.

  • Purpose - This study aims to determine whether history education for Korean-Chinese living in Korea affects their understanding for Korean society. It also aims to determine Korean-Chinese compatriots to recognize the necessity for History education. Research design, data, and methodology - In this study, two parts were examined, which were the analysis on the influence of history education and the Korean-Chinese compatriots' adaptation to Korean society. In the case of data survey, Korean-Chinese compatriots were selected who are living in Korea. The survey was conducted using the samples of 200 questionnaires in total. Results - The results of the analysis shows that their residence adaptation in Korea has a positive impact on future nationality. Moreover, the residence adaptation in Korea has positive implications for their future nationality and their longer residence duration in Korea has an effect on their hope for living in Korea. Conclusions - The study showed the historical consciousness and related demographic characteristics of Korean compatriots living in Korea. It also showed that the longer their education duration for Korean history in China, the more difficult their adaptation would be. Therefore, the long term effects of adaptation depended on the emphasis of Korean history.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the education contents and method related to Korean culture by comparing history courses in interior design programs of korea to those of three ether countries. For this research, curricula and syllabus of forty interior design programs in domestic and foreign universities have been analysed. The major findings from the survey are summarized as follows: 1. In terms of the tradition contents ratio in history course United States ranks first, Japan second, China third, and Korea last. In case of Korea, the ratio of credits alloted to tradition to total credits is very low and most of the credits are elective courses not requirement ones. 2. History courses of Korean universities are biased to Western styles. 3. In terms of the ratio of contents about neighbor foreign countries'culture in history courses is United States first, Japan second, China third, and Korea last. Therefore it is proved that net only history courses are devaluated, but also the endeavor to find Korean identity is insufficient in the Korean interior design theory education.
