In this paper the CSCM type upwind flux difference splitting Navier-Stokes method has been applied to study the ARL-SL19 supersonic/transonic compressor cascade flow. H-type grid was chosen for its simplicity in applying cyclic tridiagonal matrix algorithm along with conventional slip/no-slip boundary conditions. The thin-layer algebraic model of Baldwin-Lomax was employed for the calculation of turbulent flows. The test case inlet Mach No. was 1.612 and inlet/exit pressure ratio($P_2/P_1$) was 2.15. The results were compared with experimental results from current method were compared well in suction surface with the experiments and other computational results; however, not well in pressure surface. It might be due to the complex flowfields such as shock/boundary layer interaction, turbulence, and flow separation, etc. In the future, a proper turbulence modelling and adaptive grid system will be studied to improve the solution quality.
We have developed a numerical scheme to reproduce the unsteady flows with cavitation by the finite-difference method. The evolution of cavitation is represented by the source/sink of vapor phase in the incompressible liquid flow. The pressure-velocity coupling is based on the fractional-step method for incompressible fluid flows, in which the compressibility is taken into account through the low Mach number assumption. We applied our method for the cavitating flows in a two-dimensional cascade, which approximates the portion near the tip of inducer in liquid-fuel engine. Particular attention was focused on the influence of turbulence model in this report. Using an eddy viscosity model, although it was not an optimized one for our purpose, the agreement with the experimental observation was improved.
The objective of this study is to verify the secondary flow and the total pressure loss distribution in the boundary layer fence installed linear turbine cascade passage and to propose an appropriate height of the boundary layer fence which shows the best loss reduction among the simulated fences. In this study three different boundary layer fence was installed which have different height. This study was performed by numerical method and the result showed the boundary layer fence which has the height of one third of the inlet boundary layer thickness showed the best loss reduction rate.

In this paper, a small supersonic wind tunnel was designed and built to studythe flow characteristics of a supersonic impulse turbine cascade by experiment. Theflow was visualized by means of a single pass Schlieren system. The supersoniccascade with 3-dimensional supersonic nozzle was tested over a wide range ofpressure ratio. Highly complicated flow patterns including shocks, nozzle-cascadeinteraction and shock boundary layer interactions were observed.

Thin circular-arc blade is often used as a guide vane, a deflecting vane, or a rotating blade of low pressure axial-flow turbomachine because of its easy manufacture. Ordinary design of the blade elements of these machines is done by use of the carpet diagrams for a cascade of circular-arc blades. However, the application of the carpet diagrams is limited to relatively low cambered blade operating under optimum inlet flow conditions. In order to extend the applicable range, additional design data is necessary. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a promising method to get these data. In this paper, two-dimensonal cascade performances of circular-arc blade are widely analyzed with CFD. The results have been compared with the results of experiment and potential theory, and useful information has been obtained. Turning angle and total pressure loss coefficients are satisfactorily predicted for lowly cambered blade. For high camber angle of $67^{\circ}$, the CFD results agree with experiment for the angle of attack less than that for shockless inlet condition.

Particle collection characteristics of the MOUDI cascade impactor has been studied for coarse particles in the range of 2 to 20$mu extrm{m}$ in aerodynamic diameter. A vibrating orifice aerosol generator was empolyed to generate monodisperse test aerosols. The oleic acid and sodium chloride(NaCl) particles were used as test aerosols. Aluminum foil and Teflon filter were selected as impaction media. The sampling flow rate was changed from 25 to 35L/min. Particle collection efficiency for single stage was examined for liquid particles. The stage response was obtained experimentally for the cascade impactor composed of three stages and a backup filter. The results showed that most of particle collection efficiencies measured in this work are similar to the efficiency curves obtained by Marple et al.(1991). For particles less than cut-off size of the stage, the collection efficiencies of solid particles are similar to those of loquid particles. However, the collection efficiency of solid particles decreases with mereasing particle diameter for the particles greater than the actual cut-off size of the impactor. The particle collection efficiency increases with increasing sampling flow rate at the same particel size. However, the collection efficiency curves seem not to be greatly shifted with the flow rate. The stage responses obtained by direct measurements in this work are in good agreement with those derived from the collection efficiency curves for single stage.

In this paper the CSCM type upwind flux difference splitting Navier-Stokes method has been applied to study the ARL-SL19 transoni $c^ersonic compressor cascade flow. First, the general characteristics of baseline cascade flow were analyzed. At freestream Mach n.1.612 and exit/inlet pressure ratio 2.15, the results from current laminar flow were compared well in suction surface with the experiment; however, not well in pressure surface. Second, numerical study of the transoni $c^ersonic compressor cascade flow demonstrated the effectiveness of a passive control by the various size cavities. A cavity under the shock foot point at the suction surface of the blades was used as a passive control. The passive control of shock-boundary layer interaction by a cavity reduced total pressure losses. The effect of cavity length and depth was studied. The total pressure loss was reduced by about 10% and the isentropic efficiency was improved slightly. The effect of cavity depth in current study(d/l = 0.05, 0.02) was not found strong. Further adequate turbulence modeling and TVD schemes would help to capture the shock more accurately and increase the effectiveness of the current shock-boundary layer interaction study using upwind flux difference splitting computational methods.thods.
Numerical simulation of viscous compressible flow in turbomachinery cascade involves many problems due to the complex geometry of blade but also flow phenomena. In the present study, numerical investigations have been performed to examine the three-dimensional flow characteristics inside the transonic linear turbine cascades using a commercial code, FLUENT. Multi-block H-type grids are applied to the high-turning turbine rotor blades and comparisons with the experimental data and the numerical results have been done. In addition, the effects of turbulence models on the prediction of the endwall flows are analyzed in the sense of the flow compressibility.
Recently molybdenum alloys have been introduced as accident tolerating materials for cladding of fuel rods. Molybdenum element has seven stable isotopes with different neutron absorption cross section used in various fields, including nuclear physics and radioisotope production. This study presents separation approaches for all intermediate isotopes of molybdenum element by squared-off cascades using a newly developed numerical code with Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA) optimization algorithm. The parameters of cascade including feed flow rate, feed entry stage, cascade cut, input feed flow rate to gas centrifuges (GCs), and cut of the first stage are optimized to maximize both isotope recovery and cascade capacity. The squared off and squared cascades are studied, and the efficiencies are compared. The results obtained from the optimization showed that for the selected squared off cascade, Mo94 in four separation steps, Mo95 in five steps, Mo96 in six steps, Mo97 in seven steps, and Mo98 in two steps are separated to the desired concentrations. The highest recovery factor is obtained 63% for Mo94 separation and lowest recovery factor is found 45% for Mo95.
The losses at off-design points from a compressor cascade occur due to the deviation from a design incidence angle at the inlet of the cascade. The self-noise from the blade cascade at off-design points comes from a separated boundary layer and vortex sheddings. If the incidence angle to the cascade increases, stalling in blades may occur and the noise level increases significantly. This study applied Large-Eddy Simulations (LES) using deductive and deductive dynamic SGS models to low Mach-number, turbulent flow with each incidence angle to the cascade ranging from -40$^{\circ}$ to +20$^{\circ}$ and compared numerical predictions with measured data. It was observed that the oscillating separation bubbles attached to the suction surface do not modify wake flows dynamically for cases of negative incidence angles. However, an incidence angle greater than 8$^{\circ}$ caused a separated vortex near the leading edge to be shed downstream and created stalling. The computed performance parameters such as drag coefficient and total pressure loss coefficient showed good agreement with experimental results. Noise from the cascade of the compressor is summarized as sound generated by a structure interacting with unsteady, turbulent flows. The hybrid method using acoustic analogy was observed to closely predict the measured overall sound powers and directivity patterns at design and off-design points of blade cascade.
