It is generally agreed that strong linkages exist between rubber chains and reinforcing filler particles. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of rubber-filler attachments on the various mechanical properties of the rubber. In particular, the modulus and strength will be altered by these attachments. For this study, the curing properties are examined by means of ODR (Oscillating Disk Rheometer), the physical properties by means of Instrong. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. In the ODR test, the carbon black filled stock has shorter scorch time than gum stock and, the silica and clay filled stock has longer scorch time than gum stock. In the modulus, ten sile and swelling properties, the vulcanizates filled with carbon black had higher those values than inorganic filler loaded NR vulcanizates, but the rebound rate showed that the silica filled NR vulcanizates was lower than other inorganic filler contained NR vulcanizates and the ISAF filled NR vulcanizates was lower than other carbon block contained NR vulcanizates.
The effects of filler types and compositions on the final properties such as tensile strength, % elongation, hardness, and specific gravity of chloroprene rubber were investigated. The fillers involved in this investigation were HAF-type carbon black, Mistron, and white clay, For each filler, the variation of filler compositions gave almost the linear effects on the all properties investigated. For a fixed filler composition, different filler types gave different influential strength on rubber properties. After linearlization of experimental data with respect to each filler composition, the simple linear addition of each property with respect to filler compositions was applied to predict the final properties of the filler included rubber systems. For the chloroprene rubber system including the fillers composed of Mistron(25phr)/HAF(20phr)/clay(35phr), the predicted properties were well in accordance with the experimental results. Similar results were obtained for other additives such as processing oil and accelerator.
This study examines the effects of limestone's factors on the fluidity of cement paste when of up to 15%. As the substitution ratio of limestone powder increases, the fluidity of the paste is also improved; however, it has no correlation to the $CaCO_3$ content of the limestone, fineness of the limestone, and fluidity of the pastes. Regardless of clay content of the limestone, it showed a similar mini-slump, so there was no correlation between the clay content and the fluidity of the paste. Also, the total organic carbon content of the limestone and the fluidity of the paste showed no correlation. Regardless of the limestone's grade or fineness, n value of powder gained by using the Rosin-Rammler distribution function showed that the fluidity of the paste increased as the n value reduced. It was also shown that particle size distribution of ordinary Portland cement with limestone powder had a major effect on the fluidity of the paste.
This study presents results from a detailed sedimentological investigation of surface sediments obtained from the Korea Strait region, the southern part of the East Sea (Sea of Japan). The distribution of different types of bottom sediments is controlled by the recent fine-grained sediment transport and deposition combined with the lowerings of sea level during the last glacial period, forming a diverse mixture of organic-rich fine-grained and shelly coarse-grained sediments. In comparison to high organic concentration of fine-grained sediments in the inner continental shelf and slope areas, the shell-rich coarse-grained sediments on the outer shelf are discernible being further modified. These coarse-grained sediments are confirmed as relict resulting from the sediment dynamics during the lower sea levels of the last glacial period. Clay mineral distribution of the fine-grained sediments gives information about the transport mechanism. Presence of present-day current system (the Tsushima Warm Current) is most probable source for the fine-grained particles into the open East Sea from the East China Sea, indicating that Holocene sediment dynamics may be used to explain the observed distribution of surface coarse-grained shell-rich sediments.
In this paper, the properties of reclaimed ash(RA) from various domestic thermal power plants(S, D and H) were analyzed, and the possibility of fabricating the artificial lightweight aggregate(ALA) using RA was studied. The chemical compositions of RA are similar to the clay, but it had higher concentrations of alkali earth metal oxides(CaO, MgO) and unburned-carbon. The TCLP(Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure) results showed that the dissolution concentrations of heavy metal ions of RA were below the limitation defined by the enforcement regulation of wastes management law in Korea. The results of IC analysis showed that leaching concentration of $Cl^-$ ion was 124 ppm for RA of HN and ${SO_4}^{2-}$ ion was leached a few hundreds ppm for all RA in this study. The ALAs with various mass ratio of clay to reclaimed ash(RA:Clay = 7:3, 6:4, 5:5, 4:6, 3:7) were sintered with a electric muffle furnace at the temperature of $1050{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$. The specific gravity and water absorption(%) of the sintered ALAs were 1.1~1.8 and 10~30% respectively. The ALA sintered in the rotary kiln at $1125^{\circ}C$ showed a bulk density of 1.7 and water absorption of 15.2%.
This study was carried out to compare artificial soil formulated by blending calcined clay and coconut peat with perlite, then to evaluate this soil as a perlite substitute for use as an artificial planting medium. To achieve this, a determination of the physico-chemical properties and it's effect on plant growth were conducted by comparing those with large perlite grains and small grains. The results are summarized as follows: 1) The bulk density was 0.41g/㎤. This density was lower than that of field soil, but higher than that of large perlite grain(0.23g/㎤) and small grain(0.25g/㎤). The porosity, field capacity, and saturated hydraulic conductivity were 71.3%, 49.2%, and 3.8$\times$10-2cm/s, respectively. The air-permeability, water holding capacity, and drainage were better than or equal to that both large and small perlite grain. 2) It was near-neutral in reaction(pH=6.6). It had a high organic carbon content(65.8g/kg) and a low available phosphoric acid content(84.7mg/kg). It was similar to crop soil in cation exchange capacity(11.4cmol/kg). It had a low exchangeable calcium content(0.71cmol/kg), a low exchangeable magnesium content(0.68cmol/kg), a high exchangeable potassium content(2.54cmol/kg), and a high exchangeable sodium content(1.12cmol/kg). Except for the exchangeable potassium and sodium content, the chemical properties were better than or equal to both large and small grain perlite. The excessive exchangeable potassium or sodium content will inhibit plant growth. 3) In Experiment 1, the plant growth tended to be higher compared to that of large and small perlite gains. But in Experiment 2, it tended to be lower. This might be linked to the excessive exchangeable potassium or sodium content. 4) It could be considered as a renewable perlite substitute for greening of artificial soil. But, it would be necessary to leach the excessive exchangeable potassium or sodium to avoid the risk of inhibiting plant growth.
