  • In this paper, we have studied internal quality including chemical compositions, microscopic structure and nonmetalic inclusion of test materials. We have analyzed dynamic characteristics of cutting force of milling including tensile strength value hardness etcs. Test materials are used the tempered carbon steel and the non-tempered carbon steel. The obtained results are as follows: 1.In analyzing internal quality, the tempered carbon steel have typical martensite structure and the non-tempered carbon steel have ferrite+pearlite structure. 2.Yield strength, tensile strength and hardness value are in the non-tempered carbon steel but elongation is maximum value in the tempered carbon steel. 3.Cutting force is smaller non-tempered carbon steel than tempered carbon steel when feed speed and depth of cut is constant. 4.Cutting force is smaller to the tempered carbon steel and smaller non-tempered carbon steel than tempered carbon steel when cutting conditions

  • The sliding wear characteristics of carbon steel castings were Investigated using a ball on disk type tester. The experiment was conducted using high carbon steel wire rods as ball material and carbon steel castings as disk material and different operating conditions, at room temperature under a lubrication and dry conditions. The results showed that the carbon steel castings appeared average wear volume Is lowed after annealing under a lubrication conditions and wear curve linear Increased. The specific wear rate of carbon steel castings Increased with wire diameter lubrication and dry also Increased 125 times In Ory.   • Various equipments in plants are welded with two different materials and it is required to investigate the effects of fatigue crack propagation on the neighborhood of a welded portion. The characteristics of fatigue crack growth in the base metal of carbon and stainless steel, in the carbon and stainless steel sides located in the neighborhood of welded portion (carbon/stainless steel), respectively and welded portion, are investigated. The results show that the crack growth in the welded portion (carbon/stainless steel) is an average value of the crack growths in the carbon and stainless steel respectively located in the neighborhood of the welded portion. It is found that the crack growth in the welded portion is not significantly different from those in the carbon and stainless steel sides. Hence it can be concluded that the structure welded with two different materials wold not impede the integrity based on the fatigue crack growth.

  • In the present research, slump, modulus of rupture (MOR) and flexural toughness $(I_{30})$ of high performance hybrid fiber reinforced concrete (HPHFRC) mixed with micro-fiber (carbon fiber) and macro-fiber (steel fiber) and replaced with silica fume were assessed with the analysis of variance (ANOVA). Steel fiber was a considerable significant factor in aspect of the response values of MOR and boo Based on the significance of factors related to response values from ANOVA, following assessments were available; Slump decrease: carbon fiber >> steel fiber > silica fume; MOR: steel fiber > silica fume > carbon fiber; $I_{30}$: steel fiber > carbon fiber > silica fume. Steel fiber $1.0\%$, carbon fiber $0.25\%$ and silica fume $5.0\%$, and Steel fiber $1.0\%$, carbon fiber $0.25\%$ and silica fume $2.5\%$ were obtained as the most optimum mixture.

  • This work focused on galvanic corrosion of carbon steel bolted GECM/Al plates by long-term test in tap water and NaCl solutions. Test product was carbon steel bolted between cross packed GECM and painted aluminium. Tests for the product and coupled parts determined corrosion rate in tap water and NaCl solutions. Also, using a potentiostat and salt water sprayer, galvanic test was done. In galvanic test on carbon steel bolted GECM/Al plates, corrosion of carbon steel bolt was faster in series of tap water>1% NaCl solution>3.5% NaCl solution. In galvanic couple between aluminium and carbon steel bolt, their corrosion rates were higher than those of single specimen. In galvanic couple between GECM, aluminium, and carbon steel bolt, corrosion behaviors of carbon steel bolt and aluminium were changed due to different corrosion mechanism in tap water and chloride solution.

Influence of Carbon Fiber on Corrosion Behavior of Carbon Steel in Simulated Concrete Pore Solutions

  • Galvanic current measurement, polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and weight loss test were used to study the corrosion behavior of carbon steel before and after carbon fibers coupling to the carbon steel in simulated concrete pore solutions, and the film composition on the steel surface was analyzed using XPS method. The results indicate that passive film on steel surface had excellent protective property in pore solutions with different pH values (13.3, 12.5 and 11.6). After coupling with carbon fibers (the area ratio of carbon steel to carbon fiber was 12.31), charge transfer resistance $R_{ct}$ of the steel surface decreased and the $Fe^{3+}/Fe^{2+}$ value in passive film decreased. As a result, stability of the film decreased and the corrosion rate of steel increased. Decreasing of the area ratio of steel to carbon fiber from 12.3 to 6.15 resulted in the decrease in $R_{ct}$ and the increase in corrosion rate. Especially in the pore solution with pH 11.6, the coupling leads the carbon steel to corrode easily.

  • This study investigates the effects of corrosion resistance characteristics of opponent materials in relative motion on the sliding wear behavior of mild carbon steel. Pin specimens made of mild carbon steel are tested at several sliding speeds against mating discs made of two types of alloyed steels, such as type D2 tool steel (STD11) and type 420 stainless steel (STS420J2), with different corrosion resistance characteristics in a pin-on-disc type sliding wear test machine. The results clearly show that the sliding wear behavior of mild carbon steel is influenced by the corrosion resistance characteristics of the mating disc materials at low sliding speeds. However, the sliding wear behavior at high sliding speeds is irrelevant to the characteristics because of the rising temperature. During the steady state wear period, the sliding wear rate of mild carbon steel against the type 420 stainless steel at a sliding speed of 0.5 m/s increases considerably unlike against the type D2 tool steel. This may be because the better corrosion resistance characteristics achieve a worse tribochemical reactivity. However, during the running-in wear period at low sliding speeds, the wear behavior of mild carbon steel is influenced by the microstructure after heat treatment of the mating disc materials rather than by their corrosion resistance characteristics.

  • It has been a major concern in the foundry that steel castings manufactured by the evaporative pattern casting process encounter the carbon pick-up problem. A carbon rich layer at the evaporative pattern cast surface is a result of interactions between the gaseous products from foamed polystyrene and the molten metal. The carburized layer with a high hardness makes it difficult to machine the casting. In this study, the influence of the density of EPS pattern and coatings on carbon pick-up phenomena of S25C and S45C commercial carbon cast steel were investigated. As the density of EPS pattern is increased, the carbon concentration of decomposed pattern is increased and the thickness of carburized layer at the surface of steel castings is increased. Also as the density of coatings is increased, the permeability of coatings is decreased and the thickness of carburized layer at the surface of steel castings is increased. S25C steel which has lower original carbon content compared to S45C steel exhibited severe carburization.
