Molecular self-assembly has several advantages over other nanofabrication methods. Molecular building blocks ensure ultrafine pattern precision, parallel structure formation allows for mass production and a variety of three-dimensional structures are available for fabricating complex structures. Nevertheless, the molecular interaction for self-assembly generally relies on weak forces such as van der Waals force, hydrogen bonding, or hydrophobic interaction. Due to the weak interaction, the structure formation is usually slow and the degree of ordering is low in a self-assembled structure. To promote self-assembly, directed assembly methods employing prepatterned substrates or external fields have been developed and gathered a great deal of technological attention as a next generation nanofabrication process. In this presentation a variety of directed assembly methods for soft nanomaterials including block copolymers, peptides and carbon nanomaterials will be introduced. Block copolymers are representative self-assembling materials extensively utilized in nanofabrication. In contrast to colloid assembly or anodized metal oxides, various shapes of nanostructures, including lines or interconnected networks, can be generated with a precise tunability over their shape and size. Applying prepatterned substrates$^{1,2}$ or introducing thickness modulation$^3$ to block copolymer thin films allowed for the control over the orientational and positional orderings of self-assembled structures. The nanofabrication processes for metals, semiconductors$^4$, carbon nanotubes$^{5,6}$, and graphene$^{6,7}$ templating block copolymer self-assembly will be presented.
Accurate measurements of ozone precursors are required to understand the process and extent of ozone formation in rural and urban areas. Nonmethane hydrocarbons (NMHCs) have been identified as important ozone precursors. Identification and quantification of NMHCs are difficult because of the large number present and the wide molecular weight range encountered in typical air samples. A major plan of the research team of the Climate and Air Quality Taiwan Station (CATs) was the measurement of atmospheric nonmethane hydrocarbons. An analytical method has been development for the analysis of the individual nonmethane hydrocarbons in ambient air at ppb (v) and subppb(v) levels. The whole ambient air samples were collected in canisters and analyzed by GC-FID with $Al_2O_3$/KCl PLOT column. Our targeted for quantitative analysis 43 compounds that may be substantial contributors to ozone formation. The retention indices and molar response factors of some commercially available $C_2{\sim}C_{10}$ hydrocarbons were determined and used to identify and quantify air samples. A quality assurance program was instituted to ensure that good measurements were made by participating in the International Nonmethane Hydrocarbon Intercomparison Experiments (NOMHICE).

$Cr_2AlC$ compounds were synthesized by hot pressing, and oxidized between 900 and $1200^{\circ}C$ in air for up to 50 hours. They oxidized to a thin $Al_2O_3$ layer containing a small amount of $Cr_2O_3$with the liberation of carbon as CO or $CO_2$ gases. The consumption of Al to form the $Al_2O_3$ layer led to the depletion of Al and enrichment of Cr just below the $Al_2O_3$ layer, resulting in the formation of an underlying $Cr_7C_3$ layer. As the oxidation temperature and time increased, the $Cr_7C_3$ oxide layer and the underlying $Cr_7C_3$ layer thickened. The oxidation resistance of $Cr_2AlC$ was generally good due to the formation of the $Al_2O_3$ barrier layer.
Kinetic study of halogen exchange for N,N-dimethylcarbamoyl chloride and N,N-diethylcarbamoyl chloride in acetone by using radioisotopic halide ions has been carried out at two temperatures as a part of studying the reactivity of carbonyl carbon atom. The order of nucleophilicity showed a similar tendency as that for alkyl chloroformate, but reaction rate is much slower than that for solvolysis and alkyl chloroformate. The activation parameters,${\Delta}H^*$and${\Delta}S^*$ were found to decrease in sequence $Cl^{\rightarrow}Br^{\rightarrow}I^-$ for N,N-dialkylcarbamoyl chlorides. The results are interpreted in terms of solvation effect, degree of bond-breaking and bond-formation and electronic requirements.
This study aims to investigate the microstructures and mechanical properties of DCI manufactured by sand and metal mold casting. To prohibit the formation of the chill, carbon, silicon and rare earth($0{\sim}0.2\;wt%$) were controlled and temperature of metal mold was constantly kept at $160^{\circ}C$. The sizes, counts and nodularity ratios of nodules were analyzed by image analysis device. Wear test using pin-on-disc wear tester was carried out under the conditions of load 47.2N, velocity 0.4 m/s and distance 2000 m. Tensile test using Instron type testing machine was performed with velocity of 0.1 mm/min according to the KS B 0802. The formation of the chill was not observed when percentage of the carbon and silicon were 3.8 and 2.5. Mechanical properties of GCD manufactured by metal mold were better than sand casting.
The systems of bromobenzene with chlorine and iodine monobromide in carbon tetrachloride have been investigated at $25^{\circ}$ by means of ultraviolet spectrophotometric measurements. The results indicate the formation of one to one molecular complexes, $C_6H_5Br{\cdot}Cl_2$ and $C_6H_5Br{\cdot}IBr$, in solution. The equilibrium constants obtained at $25^{\circ}$ for the formation of these two complexes are 0.0485 and $0.183l{\cdot}mole^{-1}$, respectively. Comparison of these results with those reported in the literature on other complexes of similar type shows that the relative stabilities of the complexes decrease in the following orders: $ICl>IBr>I_2>Br_2>Cl_2$Benzene > bromobenzene > chlorobenzene.

Tar is often produced during the carbonization of cellulose that limits the formation fibrous structure of the carbonized sample. This problem was reduced by applying a high temperature $(up\;to\;800{\circ}C)$ during carbonization process. Alternatively, dry cellulose was immersed in toluene and ultrasonicated prior to carbonization. In both cases, complete fibrous structures were not achieved. The formation of tar was reduced by the heat treatment of cellulose in the presence of HCI vapor before carbonization process. Such treatment before carbonization yielded mostly the fibrous structures of the carbonized sample as evident from SEM analysis. Similar results were found when the cellulose was subjected to a heat treatment in an inert condition followed by the removal of tar by the oxidation process prior to the carbonization.
To investigate cell formation in hydrocarbon/hydrogen/carbon monoxide-air premixed flames, the outward propagation and cellular instabilities were experimentally studied in a constant pressure combustion chamber at room temperature and elevated pressures. Unstretched laminar burning velocities and Markstein lengths of the mixtures were obtained by analyzing high-speed schlieren images. In this study, hydrodynamic and diffusional- thermal instabilities were evaluated to examine their effects on flame instabilities. The experimentally-measured unstretched laminar burning velocities were compared to numerical predictions using the PREMIX code. Effective Lewis numbers of premixed flames with methane addition decreased for all of the cases; meanwhile, effective Lewis numbers with propane addition increased for lean and stoichiometric conditions and increased for rich and stoichiometric cases for hydrogen-enriched flames. With the addition of propane, the propensity for cell formation significantly was diminished, whereas cellular instabilities for hydrogen-enriched flames were promoted. However, similar behavior of cellularity was obtained with the addition of methane to the reactant mixtures.
The effect of processing and designing variables such as pouring temperature(1400 or $1500^{\circ}C$), inoculation and risering design(T and H type) on the formation of defects such as external depression, primary and secondary shrinkage cavities in GC150 gray cast iron was investigated. In T type risering design, external depression or primary shrinkage cavity due to liquid contraction was formed in all of the eight cases. Regardless of its modulus value, the riser could not function properly in T type risering design because directional solidification was not promoted toward the riser. On the other hand, the four cases of H type risering design in which thermal sleeves were set onto the risers produced defect-free castings. In both types of the risering designs, secondary shrinkage cavity caused by solidification contraction was not observed in the casting because of the expansion pressure due to graphite precipitation and the application of rigid pep-set mold. The degree of external depression or primary shrinkage cavity was reduced with lowered pouring temperature. The effect of inoculation was diminished because of the high carbon equivalent of GC 150 gray cast iron.
Background: This study aimed to assess the possibility of benzene exposure in workers of a Korean semiconductor manufacturing company by reviewing the issued patents. Methods: A systematic patent search was conducted with the Google "Advanced Patent Search" engine using the keywords "semiconductor" and "benzene" combined with all of the words accessed on January 24, 2016. Results: As a result of the search, we reviewed 75 patent documents filed by a Korean semiconductor manufacturing company from 1994 to 2010. From 22 patents, we found that benzene could have been used as one of the carbon sources in chemical vapor deposition for capacitor; as diamond-like carbon for solar cell, graphene formation, or etching for transition metal thin film; and as a solvent for dielectric film, silicon oxide layer, nanomaterials, photoresist, rise for immersion lithography, electrophotography, and quantum dot ink. Conclusion: Considering the date of patent filing, it is possible that workers in the chemical vapor deposition, immersion lithography, and graphene formation processes could be exposed to benzene from 1996 to 2010.
