제올라이트계 이산화탄소 흡착제를 사용한 지하철 객실 내부의 이산화탄소 제거에 관한 연구 (Study on the Removal of Carbon Dioxide in the Subway Cabin Using Zeolite Type Carbon Dioxide Adsorbent)

  • 지하철 객실은 고농도의 이산화탄소로 오염되기 쉬운데, 이로 인하여 지하철 승객의 졸림, 두통, 무력감 등을 야기하기 쉽다. 이 때문에 환경부에서는 2007년에서는 열차와 지하철 객실의 이산화탄소 농도에 대한 가이드라인을 정한 바 있다. 본 연구에서는 지하철 객차용 이산화탄소 저감 시스템을 개발하고 실험용 객차를 이용하여 성능시험을 수행하였다. 다양한 종류의 개질 제올라이트를 이산화탄소 흡착제로 사용하여 지하철 객실 내부의 이산화탄소 농도를 저감할 수 있었다.

GTL 공정에서 아민 수용액을 이용한 이산화탄소 제거공정의 전산모사에 대한 연구 (A Simulation Study on the Carbon Dioxide Removal Process Using Aqueous Amine Solution in the GTL Process)

  • 본 연구에서는 GTL (Gas To Liquids) 파일럿 공정의 설계를 위한 아민 수용액을 이용한 이산화탄소 제거공정에 대한 전산모사를 수행하였다. 이산화탄소 제거를 위한 용매로써 30wt% DEA(diethanol amine) 수용액을 사용하였으며, 공정 배열은 흡수탑과 탈거탑의 2기의 column을 사용하였다. 전산모사를 위해서 Invensys사의 PRO/II with PROVISION 9.0을 사용하였으며 열역학 모델식으로는 amine special package내의 Kent-Eisneberg 모델식을 사용하였다. 전산모사를 통해서 이산화탄소 제거공정에 대한 열 및 물질수지를 도출하였으며, 흡수탑과 탈거탑에 대한 충진탑의 직경과 높이를 산출하였다.

정수처리에서 pH 저감에 의한 응집효율향상에 관한 연구 (Improving Coagulation Performance with pH Preadjustment in Drinking Water Treatment)

  • This paper reports on a pilot scale comparison of PACS coagulation with and without pH preadjustment. The pH of the water was adjusted with carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid. Process performance was assessed on the basis of total organic carbon(TOC), UV absorbance, turbidity and disinfection by-product(DBP) precursors. Coagulation pH appeared to be a determining factor for maximum NOM removal. The optimum coagulation pH in order to decrease TOC and turbidity were pH 7. Preadjustment of pH 7 increased TOC removal to as much as 43, 47 percent with sulfuric acid and carbon dioxide. Moreover, coagulation at pH 7 caused a reduction in UV$_{254}$, THMFP and HAAFP compared to the baseline coagulation. For preadjustment of pH 7 with carbon dioxide, the percentage of TOC, UV$_{254}$, THMFP and HAAFP shows the reduction rate of 3.8, 0.5, 4.8, 9.4% comparing to the coagulation rendition using sulfuric acid. Acid addition to depress pH during coagulation decrease Langelier Saturation Index(LSI), potentially causing increase corrosion in water distribution systems. LSI for carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid at pH 6 was -2.3, -3.3. Therefore, carbon dioxide was more effective at controlling corrosion than sulfuric acid.

이산화탄소 5 ton/day 흡수분리 Pilot Plant 운전 특성 (The Operational Characteristics of CO2 5 ton/day Absorptive Separation Pilot Plant)

  • 석탄화력 발전소의 연소 배가스를 시간당 1,000 $Nm^3$을 처리할 수 있는 이산화탄소 분리용 pilot plant를 설치하여 화학흡수제인 mono-ethanolamine(MEA)과 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol(AMP)를 이용해서 운전특성을 연소 배가스 유량과, 흡수용액 순환유량을 주 실험변수로 분석하였다. MEA 20 wt%를 기준으로 연소 배가스 유량이 100 $m^3/hr$ 감소할수록 이산화탄소 제거율이 평균 6.7% 증가하였으며 흡수용액 순환유량이 1,000 kg/hr 증가에 따라 이산화탄소 제거율은 약 2.8% 상승하였고 $110^{\circ}C$ 재가열기 온도에서 90% 이상의 이산화탄소 제거효율을 나타냈다. MEA가 AMP보다 높은 제거효율을 보였고 MEA(20 wt%) 실험에서 이산화탄소의 제거율이 75.5%인 ASPEN plus의 모사 결과보다 10% 높은 85.5%로 나타났다.

  • Carbon dioxide concentration of railroad passenger cabin is obliged to be kept lower than guideline values of 'Indoor air quality guideline for public transportations', but actual carbon dioxide concentration frequently exceeds this guideline value. Ventilation is most desirable to lower carbon dioxide concentration but there are some cases when the ventilation is not applicable. In this study, carbon dioxide concentration control method using adsorbents was presented. Base and zeolites, good adsorbents of carbon dioxide, were mixed and palletized. Carbon dioxide adsorption performance of this adsorbents were studied. It was found that base-modified zeolites adsorbed carbon dioxide better than zeolites only.

Ventilation is most desirable to lower carbon dioxide concentration but there are some cases when the ventilation is not applicable. In this study, carbon dioxide concentration control method using adsorbents was presented. The cation of zeolites were exchanged with various kinds of cations, and the carbon dioxide adsorption performance of the zeolites were studied. The various kinds of cations, solvents, and zeolites were introduced, and it was found that some cation-exchanged zeolites showed good carbon dioxide adsorption performances. It is expected that the obtained results will be used to lower carbon dioxide concentration of railroad passenger cabin.

공기중의 벤젠제거에 대한 산화티타늄 광촉매 반응특성 (Photocatalytic Reactivity of Titanium Dioxide in the Removal of Benzene from Air)

  • Photocatalytic removal of benzene from air was examined using titanium dioxide photocatalyst films prepared on soda lime glass(50$\times$50$\times$2 mm) by spin coating and chemical vapor deposition. For the measurement of photocatalytic reactivity titanium dioxide coated glass was placed into a batch reactor and concentration of benzene in the reactor was set to abuot 100 ppm, and then illuminated with UV. It was found that catalytic reactivity of titanium dioxide films increased with the increase of titanium dioxide film thickness and then level off beyond a certain film thickness. UV absorption by the films showed the similar trend. The formation of stoichiometric amount of carbon dioxide was confirmed by measurement of carbon dioxide concentration in the reactor. In general spin coated films revealed better photocatalytic reactivity than chemically deposited one within the experimental ranges covered in this study. Morphology and crystal structure of prepared films were investigated by XRD and SEM and they showed significant difference between spin coated films and CVD films. Highest quantum efficiency of prepared titanium dioxide photocatalyst was close to 50%.

  • Carbon dioxide is the fourth most abundant gas in the earth's atmosphere, and it is widely used in the chemical industry. Solid carbon dioxide is commonly known as dry ice. At low concentration, carbon dioxide appears to have little toxicological effect. At higher concentrations, however, it can produce an increased respiratory rate, tachycardia, cardiac arrhythmia, loss of consciousness, convulsion, and even death. Management of carbon dioxide poisoning requires the immediate removal of an individual from the toxic environment and administration of oxygen. It is important to know the concentration of carbon dioxide to which a patient has been exposed. We report a case of acute poisoning from solid carbon dioxide in a patient presenting with drowsiness and diminished mental capacity when she arrived in the emergency department. She recovered completely after administration of oxygen with conservative treatment.

Biodegradation of Ethylene in an Activated Carbon Biofilter

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the biodegradation of ethylene in an activated carbon biofilter inoculated with immobilized microbial consortium. The biofilter performance was monitored in terms of ethylene removal efficiency and carbon dioxide production. The biofilter was capable of achieving ethylene removal efficiency as much as 100% at a residence time of 14 min and an inlet concentration of 290 ppm. Under the same conditions, carbon dioxide with a concentration of up to 546 ppm was produced. Its was found that carbon dioxide was produced at a rate of 87 mg day$\^$-1/, which corresponded to a volume of 0.05 L day$\^$-1/. During operation with an inlet ethylene of 290 ppm, the maximum elimination capacity of the biofilter was 34 g of C$_2$H$_4$m$\^$-3/ day$\^$-1/. The biofilter could provide an attractive treatment technology for removing ethylene, an extremely volatile and slowly adsorbed compound.

이산화탄소 제거공정에서 물리 흡수제를 사용한 공정과 멤브레인을 사용한 공정 사이의 비교 연구 (A comparative study on the carbon dioxide removal capability between the processes using physical solvent and membrane process)

  • Dimethyl Ether(DME) 제조공정에서 DME의 생산성을 높이기 위해서 이산화탄소를 반드시 제거해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 물리적 흡수제를 사용해서 이산화탄소를 제거할 수 있는 용매 흡수법과 막 분리법을 이용하여 이산화탄소를 제거하는 공정에 대해서 전산모사를 수행한 후, 공정 사이의 에너지 소모량을 비교하였다. 물리적 흡수제로는 메탄올을 사용한 Rectisol 공정, dimethyl ethers of polyethylene glycol를 사용한 Selexol 공정 및 N-methyl pyrrolidone를 사용한 Purisol 공정을 적용하였다. 전산모사를 수행하여 각 공정에서 소모된 에너지를 비교해 본 결과 Purisol 공정에서의 소요 동력이 Membrane 공정에 비해 97.55%, Rectisol 공정에 비해 91.71%, Selexol 공정에 비해 58.25% 감소하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그러므로 DME 제조공정에 가장 적합한 이산화탄소 제거공정은 Purisol 공정이라 판단된다.
