  • In recent years, the research and development about the new material proceed rapidly and actively in the building industry. As building structures become bigger, higher and more specialized, so does the demand for material with higher strength. In the future, we will need to research repair and rehabilitation to make high strength concrete mixed steel fibrous building safe. The carbon fiber reinforced plastic bonding method is widely used in reinforcing the existing concrete structure among the various methods. The repair of initiate loaded reinforced high-strength concrete beams mixed steel fibrous with epoxy bonded Carbon Fiber Sheets(CFS) was investigated experimentally. The CFS thickness and length were varied to assess the peel failure at the curtailment of CFS, The behaviour of the repaired beams was represented by load-longitudinal steel strain relation and failure modes were discussed. The test results indicate that CFS is very effective for strengthening the demand beams and controlling deflections of reinforced high strength concrete beams mixed steel fibrous happen diagonal crack, the increase in the number of CFS layers over two layers didn't effect the increase in the strength of beams.

  • Toluene adsorption characteristics in the adsorption bed packed with activated carbon fiber (ACF) were studied. Experimental apparatus is composed of VOC generation equipment, adsorption bed, and analytical instrument. Breakthrough characteristics were investigated with length of the adsorption bed which consisted of 3 or 5 sheets of the ACF and flow rate when toluene concentration are 400 ppm and 800 ppm respectively. When mass transfer zone (MTZ) comes out of the adsorption bed, toluene concentration is increased sharply and reached plateau region by saturation. Experimental results are compared with semi-empirical gas adsorption model proposed by Yoon and Nelson. In order to investigate the movement of the MTZ with adsorption time in the adsorption bed packed with ACFs, weight increment of each ACF was measured with the location of ACF at each run. When the weight increment of ACF by toluene adsorption which located at the exit of the bed reaches about 20%, toluene started to be detected.

  • This paper presents the experimental results of an experiment on the current rectangular CFT columns and rectangular CFT columns additionally confined by carbon fiber sheets(CFS) under axial loading. The main experimental parameters were the layer numbers of the CFS and the depth-to-thickness ratio. Nine specimens were prepared according to the experimental parameter plans, and axial compression tests were conducted. From the tests, the failure procedure, the load-axial deformation curve, the maximum axial strength, and the deformation capacity of the CFT columns and the confined CFT columns were compared. Finally, it was seen that the maximum axial strengths of the CFT increased more significantly than that of the current CFT columns because of delayed local buckling.

  • Repair and retrofit system of concrete structures has been developed from conventional reinforced concrete overlaying, steel plate bonding and recently to fiber composite systems. Research and study on carbon, aramid, and glass fiber composite system has been actively carried out from all over the world Glass fiber composite is proved to be competitive technically and enconomically, among fiber composite system. CAF system is a system developed locally using all domestic materal, glass fabric and epoxy, and improved in shear bonding property by utilizing silica fume mixed with epoxy. All the tests on material properties, structural behavior, constructiveness at site and quality control procedure proved to be most appropriate system so far developed. Futher research work is and will be under progress for utilization of this system which will be applied to more adverse situation.

  • The objective of this experimental study is to evaluate the strengthening effects of concrete compression confined with Epoxy-boned compound fiber sheets. An analytical model is proposed to construct a stress-strain relationship for confined concrete. Test results are summarized as followed. While non-FRP lateral confinement specimens appeared sudden failure after shell concrete was torn off, specimens confined laterally with FRP were showed that their failure. Specially, Glass fiber lateral confined specimens occurred obviously increase ductility ability. Hence, concrete specimen with lateral confinement by Hi-carborn and Aramide. Glass fiber simultaneously can be increased in not only strength but also a lot of ductility ability.

  • Tensile strength of CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) is approximately 10 times higher than that steel reinforcement, but the design strength of CFRP is normally reduced by the bond failure between RC and CFRP. Many researches have been carried out, concerned with bond behavior between RC and CFRP to prevent the unpredicted bond failure of RC beam strengthened by CFRP, but the national design code for design bond strength of CFRP hasn't been constructed. In this study, 3 beams specimen strengthened by CFRP under the variable of bonded length were tested to derive the design bond strength of CFRP to the RC flexural members. Also 2 beams specimen strengthened by CFRP were tested to inspect the construction environment effects such as mixing error of epoxy resin and the amount of primer epoxy resin. From the test results, It is concluded that the maximum design bond strength of CFRP to RC flexural member is considered to be $\tau_{a}$=8kgf/$cm^{2}$.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the reinforcement effect of the RC compressive member confined with carbon fiber sheets and to suggest better transverse confinement coefficient(k$_1$) than one's in the existing analysis equations. Showing amounts of CPS in terms of ratio of transverse reinforcement to cross-section, it comes to be possible to calculate the objective and quantitative reinforcement amounts and to estimate the overlapping length of CFS that can influence on all its confinement effect. The previous parameters were compared using the existing experimental test data, then analyzed for the merits and demerits of existing parameters through the coefficient of correlation(R). The proposed parameters were derived in such a way that established parameters and their combination were obtained from the analytical study and then determined by regression analysis using the previous test data.

  • This paper presents the experimental results of axially loaded stub columns of slender steel hollow square section (SHS) strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) sheets. 9 specimens were fabricated and the main parameters were: width-thickness ratio (b/t), the number of CFRP ply, and the CFRP sheet orientation. From the tests, it was observed that two sides would typically buckle outward and the other two sides would buckle inward. A maximum increase of 33% was achieved in axial-load capacity when 3 layers of CFRP were used to wrap HSS columns of b/t = 100 transversely. Also, stiffness and ductility index (DI) were compared between un-retrofitted specimens and retrofitted specimens. Finally, it was shown that the application of CFRP to slender sections delays local buckling and subsequently results in significant increases in elastic buckling stress. In the last section, a prediction formula of the ultimate strength developed using the experimental results is presented.

  • The objective of this study is to develope a new equation that can predict the flexural capacity in RC beams strengthened with Carbon Fiber Sheets(CFS). To evaluate the influence of each experimental variable, the conducted experimental test data were investigated; the variables that had an effect on the increment of the flexural capacity were the number of plys, the strengthening length, the reinforced type such as U-type after reinforcing the bottom of the beam. The previous equations were compared using the existing experimental test data, then analyzed for the merits and demerits of existing equations, using the coefficient of correlation(R). The proposed equation was derived in such a way that main parameters and their combination were obtained from the analytical study and then their coefficients were determined by regression analysis using the previous test data. As a result, the proposed equation showed the better agreement than the previous equations.

  • Recently, carbon Fiber sheet (CFS) is frequently used for strengthening deteriorated concrete structures. To strengthening damaged structures, the property and characteristic of the bond between CFS and the concrete surface must be understood. The tensile test of single lap shear specimen was performed to study bond strength, bond stress distribution and stress transfer between CFS and concrete surface according to the bond length. Based on the test results, there were ultimate influence length (UIL) in which bond stress was distributed, and ultimate strain reduction ratio (USRR) by which strain was reduced linearly. Bond resisting force (BRF) was estimated by UIL and USRR, and which was compared with ultimate loads. According to the results of comparison, it was shown that ultimate bond strength could be estimated reasonablely by BRF.
