Robust Lane Detection Algorithm for Realtime Control of an Autonomous Car (실시간 무인 자동차 제어를 위한 강인한 차선 검출 알고리즘)

  • This paper presents a robust lane detection algorithm based on RGB color and shape information during autonomous car control in realtime. For realtime control, our algorithm increases its processing speed by employing minimal elements. Our algorithm extracts yellow and white pixels by computing the average and standard deviation values calculated from specific regions, and constructs elements based on the extracted pixels. By clustering elements, our algorithm finds the yellow center and white stop lanes on the road. Our algorithm is insensitive to the environment change and its processing speed is realtime-executable. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of our algorithm.

  • Recently, the safety in vehicle also has become a hot topic as self-driving car is developed. In passive safety systems such as airbags and seat belts, the system is being changed into an active system that actively grasps the status and behavior of the passengers including the driver to mitigate the risk. Furthermore, it is expected that it will be possible to provide customized services such as seat deformation, air conditioning operation and D.W.D (Distraction While Driving) warning suitable for the passenger by using occupant information. In this paper, we propose robust vehicle occupant detection algorithm based on RGB-Depth-Thermal camera for obtaining the passengers information. The RGB-Depth-Thermal camera sensor system was configured to be robust against various environment. Also, one of the deep learning algorithms, OpenPose, was used for occupant detection. This algorithm is advantageous not only for RGB image but also for thermal image even using existing learned model. The algorithm will be supplemented to acquire high level information such as passenger attitude detection and face recognition mentioned in the introduction and provide customized active convenience service.

A Color Video Flame Detection Method based on Wavelet Transform to Remove Flickering Non-Flame Detection (점멸성 비화염 검출을 제거하는 웨이블릿변환 기반의 컬러영상 화염 검출 방법)

  • This paper presents color video flame detection algorithm based on wavelet transform to remove detection of flickering non-flame objects. Conventional flame detection algorithms consist of simple or mixed functions using colors, temporal and spatial characteristics. But those algorithms detect non-flame objects as flame regions sometimes. False alarm reasons are flame-like objects with regular flickering lights such as car signal lamps, alarm lights etc. The proposed algorithm is to reduce false detection which is occurred in periodic flickering lights. At first, It segments the candidate flame regions by using frame difference, flame colors. Then it distinguish flame regions and non flame regions including flickering car lights by analyzing wavelet coefficients. Computer simulation results showed that the proposed algorithm removes false detection due to the periodic flickering lamps by performing 97.9% of correct detection rate while false detection rate is 7.3%.

Vehicle Number Plate Detection using Corner Information (꼭짓점 정보를 이용한 자동차 번호판 검출)

  • In this paper, we presents a new method for vehicle number plate detection. Our method is basically the method extracting a rectangles from a car image because the shape of a vehicle number plate is a rectangle. For detecting the vehicle number plate, firstly, the contrast of the input image is enhanced. Then, the lines in the image are obtained by using LSD(line segment detector), and rectangles in the image are detected from the line data. These rectangles are the candidates of the car plate, from which the car plate is selected. In this procedure, the method of detecting rectangles is our proposed method, which consists of three stages: (1) extracting corners from the line segments by LSD; (2) extracting diagonal lines from the corner data; and (3) detecting rectangles from diagonal line information. And finally the vehicle number plate is selected from these rectangles by using the feature of the vehicle number plate and the inside information of rectangles. In the experiments with the 100 images captured by our digital camera, we have achieved a detection rate of 94%.

  • Car black box helps to investigate the cause of accident by recording time, position and videos as well as shock information. In addition, the car black box need a function to support safe driving for preventing accident. The representative driving support function is a lane departure warning. In order to implement the function, it is necessary to carry out the image processing to detect the lane first. The image processing algorithm requires computational burden to handle so much data and complicated structure of algorithm. This paper describes the efficient image processing algorithm with relatively low amount of computation for car black box embedded platform to detect lanes from the real-time lane image.

Learning-based approach for License Plate Recognition System (학습 기반의 자동차 번호판 인식 시스템)

  • This paper presents a learning-based approach for the construction of license Plate recognition system. The system consist of three modules. They are respectively, car detection module, license plate recognition module and recognition module. Car detection module detects a car in the given image sequence obtained from the camera with simple color-based approach. Segmentation module extracts the license plate in detect car image using neural network as filters for analyzing the color and texture properties of license plate. Recognition module then reads characters in detected license plate with support vector machine (SVM)-based characters recognizer. The system has been tested from parking lot and tollgate, etc. and have show the following performances on average: Car detect rate 100%, segmentation rate 97.5%, and character recognition rate about 97.2%. Overall system performances is 94.7% and processing time is one sec. Then our propose system does well using real world.

  • This paper proposes a robust lane detection algorithm for bumpy or slope changing roads by estimating extrinsic camera parameters, which represent the pose of the camera mounted on the car. The proposed algorithm assumes that two lanes are parallel with the predefined width. The lane detection and the extrinsic camera parameter estimation are performed simultaneously by utilizing B-snake in motion compensated and merged feature map with consecutive sequences. The experimental results show the robustness of the proposed algorithm in various road environments. Furthermore, the accuracy of extrinsic camera parameter estimation is evaluated by calculating the distance to a preceding car with the estimated parameters and comparing to the radar-measured distance.

  • This paper presents a camera calibration method in order to estimate the lane detection and inter-vehicle distance estimation system for an automotive safety driving system. In order to implement the lane detection and vision-based inter-vehicle distance estimation to the embedded navigations or black box systems, it is necessary to consider the computation time and algorithm complexity. The process of camera calibration estimates the horizon, the position of the car's hood and the lane width for extraction of region of interest (ROI) from input image sequences. The precision of the calibration method is very important to the lane detection and inter-vehicle distance estimation. The proposed calibration method consists of three main steps: 1) horizon area determination; 2) estimation of the car's hood area; and 3) estimation of initial lane width. Various experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

A Design of Dangerous Sound Detection Engine of Wearable Device for Hearing Impaired Persons (청각장애인을 위한 웨어러블 기기의 위험소리 검출 엔진 설계)

  • Hearing impaired persons are exposed to the danger since they can't be aware of many dangerous situations like fire alarms, car hones and so on. Therefore they need haptic or visual informations when they meet dangerous situations. In this paper, we design a dangerous sound detection engine for hearing impaired. We consider four dangerous indoor situations such as a boiled sound of kettle, a fire alarm, a door bell and a phone ringing. For outdoor, two dangerous situations such as a car horn and a siren of emergency vehicle are considered. For a test, 6 data sets are collected from those six situations. we extract LPC, LPCC and MFCC as feature vectors from the collected data and compare the vectors for feasibility. Finally we design a matching engine using an artificial neural network and perform classification tests. We perform classification tests for 3 times considering the use outdoors and indoors. The test result shows the feasibility for the dangerous sound detection.
