Train accidents can be directly connected to fatal accidents-collision, derailment, Fire, railway crossing accidents-resulting in tremendous human casualties. First of all, the railway derailment is not only related to most of railway accidents but also it can lead to much more catastrophic accompanying train overtured than other factors. Therefore, it is most important factor to ensure railway safety. some foreign countries have applied to the detector machines(e.g., ultrasonic detector car, sleep mode, current detector, optical sensing, optical fiber). Since it was developed in order to prevent train from being derailed. In korea, the existing track method has been used to monitor rail condition using track circuit. However, we found out it impossible for Communication Based Train Control system(CBTC), recent technology to detect rail condition using balise(data transmission devices) without no track circuit. For this reason, it is needed instantly to develop real-time monitoring system used to detect broken rails. Firstly, this paper presents domestic and international statues analysis of rail breaks technology. Secondly, the composition and the characteristics of the real-time monitoring system. Finally, the evidence that this system could assumed the location and type of broken rails was proved by the experiment of prototype and operation line tests. We concluded that this system can detect rail break section in which error span exist within${\pm}1m$.
Real-time information on vehicle queue at intersections is essential for optimal traffic signal control, which is substantial part of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). Computer vision is also potentially an important element in the foundation of integrated traffic surveillance and control systems. The objective of this research is to propose a method for detecting an exact queue lengths at signalized intersections using image processing techniques and a neural network model Fuzzy ARTMAP, which is a supervised and self-organizing system and claimed to be more powerful than many expert systems, genetic algorithms. and other neural network models like Backpropagation, is used for recognizing different patterns that come from complicated real scenes of a car park. The experiments have been done with the traffic scene images at intersections and the results show that the method proposed in the paper could be efficient for the noise, shadow, partial occlusion and perspective problems which are inevitable in the real world images.
An innovative feature of this study is to propose a methodology for evaluating safety performance in real time based on vehicle trajectory data extracted from video images. The essence of evaluating safety performance is to capture unsafe car-following events between individual vehicles traveling surveillance area. The proposed methodology applied two indices including real-time safety index (RSI) based on the concept of safe stopping distance and time-to-collision (TTC) to the evaluation of safety performance. It is believed that outcomes would be greatly utilized in developing a new generation of video images processing (VIP) based traffic detection systems capable of producing safety performance measurements. Relevant technical challenges for such detection systems are also discussed.

The vehicle recognition consists of two steps; the vehicle region detection step and the vehicle identification step based on the feature extracted from the detected region. Features using linear transformations have the effect of dimension reduction as well as represent statistical characteristics, and show the robustness in translation and rotation of objects. Among the linear transformations, the NMF(Non-negative Matrix Factorization) is one of part-based representation. Therefore, we can extract NMF features with sparsity and improve the vehicle recognition rate by the representation of local features of a car as a basis vector. In this paper, we propose a feature extraction using NMF suitable for the vehicle recognition, and verify the recognition rate with it. Also, we compared the vehicle recognition rate for the occluded area using the SNMF(sparse NMF) which has basis vectors with constraint and LVQ2 neural network. We showed that the feature through the proposed NMF is robust in the urban scene where occlusions are frequently occur.
In this paper, we propose a quadratic discriminant analysis based approach for improving the discriminating strength of weak classifiers based on simple Haar-like features that were used in the Viola-Jones object detection framework. Viola and Jones built a strong classifier using a boosted ensemble of weak classifiers. However, their single threshold (or decision boundary) based weak classifier is sub-optimal and too weak for efficient discrimination between object class and background. A quadratic discriminant analysis based approach is presented which leads to hyper-quadric boundary between the object class and background class, thus realizing multiple thresholds based weak classifiers. Experiments carried out for car detection using 1000 positive and 3000 negative images for training, and 500 positive and 500 negative images for testing show that our method yields higher classification performance with fewer classifiers than single threshold based weak classifiers.

The death rate of pedestrian in car accidents in Korea is 2.5 times higher than the average of OECD countries'. If a system that can detect pedestrians and send alarm to drivers is built and reduces the rate, it is worth developing such a pedestrian detection system (PDS). Since the accident rate in which pedestrians are involved is higher at nighttime than in daytime, the adoption of nighttime PDS is being standardized by big auto companies. However, they are usually using night visions or multiple sensors, which are usually expensive. In this paper we suggest a method for nighttime PDS using single wide dynamic range (WDR) monochrome camera in visible spectrum band. In our experiments, pedestrians were accurately detected if only most edges of pedestrians could be obtained.

We could verify its superiority in both performance and real?time operation to existing algorithm through tests against video data taken in several different environments.

Smart application is developed in this paper by using an android-based platform to automatically determine the human emergency state (Lifesaver) by using different technology sensors of the mobile. In practice, this Lifesaver has many applications, and it can be easily combined with other applications as well to determine the emergency of humans. For example, if an old human falls due to some medical reasons, then this application is automatically determining the human state and then calls a person from this emergency contact list. Moreover, if the car accidentally crashes due to an accident, then the Lifesaver application is also helping to call a person who is on the emergency contact list to save human life. Therefore, the main objective of this project is to develop an application that can save human life. As a result, the proposed Lifesaver application is utilized to assist the person to get immediate attention in case of absence of help in four different situations. To develop the Lifesaver system, the GPS is also integrated to get the exact location of a human in case of emergency. Moreover, the emergency list of friends and authorities is also maintained to develop this application. To test and evaluate the Lifesaver system, the 50 different human data are collected with different age groups in the range of (40-70) and the performance of the Lifesaver application is also evaluated and compared with other state-of-the-art applications. On average, the Lifesaver system is achieved 95.5% detection accuracy and the value of 91.5 based on emergency index metric, which is outperformed compared to other applications in this domain.

This paper presents a procedure to extract lane line models using a set of proposed methods. Firstly, an image warping method based on homography is proposed to transform a target image into an image which is efficient to find lane pixels within a certain region in the image. Secondly, a method to use the combination of the results of edge detection and HSL (Hue, Saturation, and Lightness) transform is proposed to detect lane candidate pixels with reliability. Thirdly, erroneous candidate lane pixels are eliminated using a selection area method. Fourthly, a method to fit lane pixels to quadratic polynomials is proposed. In order to test the validity of the proposed procedure, a set of black-box images captured under varying illumination and noise conditions were used. The experimental results show that the proposed procedure could overcome the problems of color-only and edge-only based methods and extract lane pixels and model the lane line geometry effectively within less than 0.6 seconds per frame under a low-cost computing environment.
Most of the vehicles currently under development and in operation are equipped with various IoT sensors, but some of the factors that cause car accidents are relatively difficult to detect. One of the major risk factors among these factors is black ice. Black ice is one of the factors most likely to cause major accidents, as it can affect all vehicles passing through areas covered with black ice. Therefore, black ice detection technique is essential to prevent major accidents. For this purpose, some studies have been carried out in the past, but unrealistic factors have been reflected in some parts, so research to supplement this is needed. In this paper, we tried to detect black ice by analyzing color images using the CNN technique, and we succeeded in detecting black ice to a certain level. However, there were differences from previous studies, and the reason was analyzed.
