  • In this paper, we develop a program that recognition of the object 3D pose using stereo camera. In order to detect the object, this paper is applied to canny edge detection algorithm and also used stereo camera to get the 3D point about the object and applied to recognize the pose of the object using iterative closest point(ICP) algorithm.

  • This paper presents a three-dimensional (3D) head pose estimation algorithm using the stereo image. Given a pair of stereo image, we automatically extract several important facial feature points using the disparity map, the gabor filter and the canny edge detector. To detect the facial feature region , we propose a region dividing method using the disparity map. On the indoor head & shoulder stereo image, a face region has a larger disparity than a background. So we separate a face region from a background by a divergence of disparity. To estimate 3D head pose, we propose a 2D-3D Error Compensated-SVD (EC-SVD) algorithm. We estimate the 3D coordinates of the facial features using the correspondence of a stereo image. We can estimate the head pose of an input image using Error Compensated-SVD (EC-SVD) method. Experimental results show that the proposed method is capable of estimating pose accurately.

  • In the industry, the automation of brazing system is very important using the vision senor and the edge detection of the bronze pipe. And also, the accurate coordination is needed for the finding of the precise location. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for the measurement of 3D information of the brazing material and the detection algorithm of soldering area using the camera and IR sensor. We use Canny edge detector in noisy environments. The experimental study shows that camera and IR sensor is useful for the measurement of distance in the brazing work.

Automated Geo-registration for Massive Satellite Image Processing

  • Massive amount of satellite image processing such asglobal/continental-level analysis and monitoring requires automated and speedy georegistration. There could be two major automated approaches: (1) rigid mathematical modeling using sensor model and ephemeris data; (2) heuristic co-registration approach with respect to existing reference image. In case of ETM+, the accuracy of the first approach is known as RMSE 250m, which is far below requested accuracy level for most of satellite image processing. On the other hands, the second approach is to find identical points between new image and reference image and use heuristic regression model for registration. The latter shows better accuracy but has problems with expensive computation. To improve efficiency of the coregistration approach, the author proposed a pre-qualified matching algorithm which is composed of feature extraction with canny operator and area matching algorithm with correlation coefficient. Throughout the pre-qualification approach, the computation time was significantly improved and make the registration accuracy is improved. A prototype was implemented and tested with the proposed algorithm. The performance test of 14 TM/ETM+ images in the U.S. showed: (1) average RMSE error of the approach was 0.47 dependent upon terrain and features; (2) the number average matching points were over 15,000; (3) the time complexity was 12 min per image with 3.2GHz Intel Pentium 4 and 1G Ram.

  • Image co-registration is the process of overlaying two images of the same scene, one of which represents a reference image, while the other is geometrically transformed to the one. In order to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the co-registration approach, the author proposed a pre-qualified area matching algorithm which is composed of feature extraction with canny operator and area matching algorithm with cross correlation coefficient. For refining matching points, outlier detection using studentized residual was used and iteratively removes outliers at the level of three standard deviation. Throughout the pre-qualification and the refining processes, the computation time was significantly improved and the registration accuracy is enhanced. A prototype of the proposed algorithm was implemented and the performance test of 3 Landsat images of Korea showed: (1) average RMSE error of the approach was 0.436 Pixel (2) the average number of matching points was over 38,475 (3) the average processing time was 489 seconds per image with a regular workstation equipped with a 3 GHz Intel Pentium 4 CPU and 1 Gbytes Ram. The proposed approach achieved robustness, full automation, and time efficiency.

An Intelligent System for Recognition of Identifiers from Shipping Container Images using Fuzzy Binarization and Enhanced Hybrid Network

  • The automatic recognition of transport containers using image processing is very hard because of the irregular size and position of identifiers, diverse colors of background and identifiers, and the impaired shapes of identifiers caused by container damages and the bent surface of container, etc. In this paper we propose and evaluate a novel recognition algorithm for container identifiers that effectively overcomes these difficulties and recognizes identifiers from container images captured in various environments. The proposed algorithm, first, extracts the area containing only the identifiers from container images by using CANNY masking and bi-directional histogram method. The extracted identifier area is binarized by the fuzzy binarization method newly proposed in this paper. Then a contour tracking method is applied to the binarized area in order to extract the container identifiers which are the target for recognition. In this paper we also propose and apply a novel ART2-based hybrid network for recognition of container identifiers. The results of experiment for performance evaluation on the real container images showed that the proposed algorithm performs better for extraction and recognition of container identifiers compared to conventional algorithms.

Recognition of Identifiers from Shipping Container Image by Using Fuzzy Binarization and ART2-based RBF Network

The proposed algorithm, first, extracts the area including only all identifiers from container images by using CANNY masking and bi-directional histogram method. The extracted identifier area is binarized by the fuzzy binarization method newly proposed in this paper and by applying contour tracking method to the binarized area, container identifiers which are targets of recognition are extracted. We proposed and applied the ART2-based RBF network for recognition of container identifiers. The results of experiment for performance evaluation on the real container images showed that the proposed algorithm has more improved performance in the extraction and recognition of container identifiers than the previous algorithms.

Extraction and Revision of Building Information from Single High Resolution Image and Digital Map (단일 고해상도 위성영상과 수치지도로부터 건물 정보 추출 및 갱신)

  • In this paper, we propose a method aiming at updating the building information of the digital maps using single high resolution satellite image and digital map. Firstly we produced a digital orthoimage through the automatic co-registration of QuickBird image and 1:1,000 digital map. Secondly we extracted building height information through the template matching of digital map's building vector data and the image's edges obtained by Canny operator. Finally we refined the shape of some buildings by using the result from template matching as the seed polygon of the greedy snake algorithm. In order to evaluate the proposed method's effectiveness, we estimated accuracy of the extracted building information using LiDAR DSM and 1:1,000 digital map. The evaluation results showed the proposed method has a good potential for extraction and revision of building information.

Registration between High-resolution Optical and SAR Images Using linear Features (선형정보를 이용한 고해상도 광학영상과 SAR 영상 간 기하보정)

  • Precise image-to-image registration is required to process multi-sensor data together. The purpose of this paper is to develop an algorithm that register between high-resolution optical and SAR images using linear features. As a pre-processing step, initial alignment was fulfilled using manually selected tie points to remove any dislocations caused by scale difference, rotation, and translation of images. Canny edge operator was applied to both images to extract linear features. These features were used to design a cost function that finds matching points based on their similarity. Outliers having larger geometric differences than general matching points were eliminated. The remaining points were used to construct a new transformation model, which was combined the piecewise linear function with the global affine transformation, and applied to increase the accuracy of geometric correction.

  • According to increasing SNS users and developing smart devices like smart phone and tablet PC recently, many techniques to classify user emotions with social network information are researching briskly. The use emotion classification stands for distinguishing its emotion with text and images listed on his/her SNS. This paper suggests a method to classify user emotions through sampling a value of a representative figure on a trigonometrical function, a representative adjective on text, and a canny algorithm on images. The sampling representative adjective on text is selected as one of high frequency in the samplings and measured values of positive-negative by SentiWordNet. Figures sampled on images are selected as the representative in figures; triangle, quadrangle, and circle as well as classified user emotions by measuring pleasure-unpleased values as a type of figures and inclines. Finally, this is re-defined as x-y graph that represents pleasure-unpleased and positive-negative values with wheel of emotions by Plutchik. Also, we are anticipating for applying user-customized service through classifying user emotions on wheel of emotions by Plutchik that is redefined the representative adjectives and figures.
