Test Technique for Performance Verification of Fracture-Type Canister Cover (파열식 발사관 덮개의 성능검증을 위한 시험기법)

  • When a missile is launched, a fracture-type canister cover should be properly broken by a collision with a missile or inner pressure of a canister. The fracture performance of a canister cover should be evaluated by a test using a real missile; however, it is unrealistic due to high cost and time restriction in a design stage. In this study, a test technique is newly developed to predict fracture performance of a canister cover. The test was design to have same kinetic energy with a real missile test when the cover is collide with a missile. The effectiveness of the suggested test technique was proved by comparing the test result with that of a real missile test.

The Separating Cover Using an Explosive Bolt and Spring Lever (폭발볼트 및 스프링 레버를 이용한 발사관 분리식 덮개)

  • This research paper describes design procedures and those verification with multi-body dynamic analysis and an experiment for the development of an unprecedented type of canister cover, named as the separating cover. In order to overcome drawbacks from the precious rupture type and actuator driven cover, the separating cover was suggested. It has the simplest structure composed of the previously developed explosive bolt and a spring-lever driven system. First of all, mechanical feasibility with proposed design parameters based on mathematical modeling was confirmed through dynamic analysis and then its results showed good agreement with the followed empirical results acquired from a high speed camera. On top of that, a parametric study was conducted to identify the effect of each design parameter on separating performance. It is highly expected that this research contributes to provide military industries with a brand new canister cover having simplicity and cost efficiency and thus it will be very useful in MLRS(Multiple Launch Rocket System).

A Study on Improvement of Launch Performance for Precision Guided Missile by Live-fire test results (사격시험 결과에 따른 정밀 유도무기 발사성능 개선에 관한 연구)

  • Precision Guided Missiles after production and militarization have various characteristics that enable the final performance to be identified by conducting live-fire tests after long-term storage. Likewise, the performance and reliability of ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ Missiles, which are currently used by the Korean Navy, are also verified consistently by conducting live-fire tests after militarization. Specially, the live fire test at '00 year, which was conducted by Korean Navy, showed the result that 'Ring', which is a component of the canister's front cover, was jammed with wings for propulsion and then broke away from the canister during the missile launch process. This situation led to an interruption of the deployment of wings and finally affected the missile's flight performance. The results of a survey of the canisters of those missiles whose live fire tests were conducted successfully, based on the live fire test at '00 year, showed the 'Ring's separation from canisters. This raises recognition for the need to solve the problems of 'Ring's separation and breakaway. This study suggests an improvement derived by the result of live-fire tests and introduces the effect of final launch performance of ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ Missiles and test result after applying the improvement.

Ambient Air Concentrations of Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Xylene in Bangkok, Thailand during April-August in 2007

  • Benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and m-, p-, and o-xylene, the most influential aromatic volatile organic compounds (VOCs), were measured in Bangkok, Thailand, one of the most rapidly developing urban areas in Southern East Asia. The purpose of this study is to characterize the ambient air quality with respect to above mentioned aromatic compounds. The data were monitored in ten sites which cover roadside area, residential area and background area. Canister technique was used to obtain air sample at 24 hour interval per a month during April-August in 2007. GC/MS with three stage preconcentrator was used to analyze these samples. The average concentrations of benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene m-, p-xylene and o-xylene are 5.8, 36.1, 4.1, 11.0 and $3.7{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively. They were observed to be distributed in a log-normal form. Moreover, o-xylene and m, p-xylene exhibited a very good correlation (r=0.976). The slope of the regression equation between them was 3.07 which consisted with a previous reported value. The average ratio of toluene to benzene was 6.4 in April, May June and August. This value was comparable to the ones measured in other Asian cities. Two types of statistical analyses, cluster and factor analyses, were applied to the data in this study. Well characterization was made to understand the air quality of Bangkok area.
