  • Around campus, one-room type multi-family houses have been built for more than any other types of one-room type dwelling units. However, these houses are built in a very small scale and have insufficient facilities due to the limited capital invested by the owners of the houses. Consequently, one-room type multi-family housing are lack of consideration and care for various dwellers. This study examines the existing condition of one-room type multi-family housing around campus and analyzes the data collected from the interviews and analyses of the floor plans of the housing. Finally, based on the findings from the analyses this study suggests the future direction for the planning of one-room type multi-family housing.

  • Dams are distributed widely in all over the world. China is one of the countries which have the most dams in the world. The construction of dams promotes consumedly to the development of economy and society, at the same time, brings many ecological and social problems. In China, the landscape ecological changes are caused by the construction of dams. These changes are long term or short term, and some of these changes are positive, others are negative. Solving these issues need do a lot of circumspect work in location choosing, planning and designing, practicing and protection of the up reservoir basin and the whole basin and so on. The construction of dams should be implemented by reasonable landscape planning, ecological environment protection in order to realize sustainable development.

  • Traditionally, road projects are initiated based on an assessment of their economic benefit, after which the environmental, social and governance effects are addressed discretely for the project according to a set of predetermined alternatives. Sustainable road infrastructure planning is vital as issues like diminishing access to road construction supplies, water scarcity, Greenhouse Gas emissions, road-related fatalities and congestion pricing etc., have imposed severe economic, social, and environmental damages to the society. In the process of addressing these sustainability factors in the operational phase of the project, the dynamics of these factors are generally ignored. This paper argues that effective delivery of sustainable roads should consider such dynamics and highlights how different aspects of sustainability have the potential to affect project sustainability. The paper initially presents the different sustainability-assessment tools that have been developed to determine the sustainability performance of road projects and discuss the inability of these tools to model the interrelationships among sustainability-related factors. The paper then argues the need for a new assessment framework that facilitates modelling these dynamics at the macro-level (system level) and helping policymakers for sustainable infrastructure planning through evaluating regulatory policies.

  • The purpose of this study is to plan a environment for creative education in university campus. According to the literature review, the necessity of improvement of educational program and physical environment is increasing because of rapidly social and industrial structure change. In this aspect, G university decided to make space for creative education utilizing unused space in campus. The space design concept was established as a cell based on the fact that the educational space was a place where students grow up and was named GNU IDEA Factory. The planning site was decided on the existing piloti to solve problems of lack budget and space. This space consisted of rooms for creative education, autonomous students' activity, and exhibition and was designed by organistic structure. In conclusion it was thought that GNU IDEA Factory would be a case of environment for creative education and activity if it was supported proper program and usable equipments.

  • Purpose: The characteristics of site plan of dentistry through examining the schools of dentistry and dental hospitals in Korea and comparison between them are necessary for the development of planning of the dental healthcare system. This study has been started to provide basic information for the planning of education and hospital architecture in dentistry. Methods: Literature review of space analysis and investigation on current status of dentistry in Korea have been conducted. The site plans of eleven schools of dentistry and dental hospitals have been analyzed with S3 axial analyzer in space syntax. Results: The result of this study can be summarized in four points. The first one is that the site plan of school of dentistry and dental hospital is influenced on the location of main campus in the city. The second one is that the types of relationship between dentistry and main campus are diverse from school and hospital in the main campus to independent dental campus in the city center. The third one is that the integration, connectivity and ERAM(3) of dental hospital are greater than school of dentistry and it means that dental hospital is located in easy access area compared with school of dentistry. The fourth one is that school of dentistry roles the connection space between main campus and dental hospital. Implications: It is necessary to analyze the site plan and arrangement of school of dentistry and dental hospital in the campus to develop the dental healthcare system in the city.

  • Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the barrier-free environment at Fukui University's Bunkyo Campus, focusing on the mobility of students using manual wheelchairs. Methods: Data were collected on architectural plans, barrier-free facilities, and class schedules at Fukui University's Bunkyo Campus. Measurements included step heights, slopes, and the accessibility of classroom furniture for manual wheelchairs. Mobility was assessed by timing the movement between 19 classrooms used in the second semester of 2022 during breaks and summer vacation. Results: This study highlights that while Fukui University's Bunkyo Campus has some barrier-free buildings, significant improvements are needed. Issues include inadequate elevators, hand operated doors, and multi-purpose restrooms, as well as inefficient classroom's furniture layouts for wheelchair users. To enhance accessibility, future efforts should focus on reducing elevator wait times, automating doors, and optimizing classroom designs. Implications: The study indicates that Fukui University's Bunkyo Campus needs significant improvements in barrier-free accessibility. It provides foundational data for future detailed planning and implementation. Enhanced campus accessibility and better classroom designs are crucial for equal learning environments. Similar issues may exist at other Japanese universities, warranting broader investigation.

  • Republic of Korea announced the reduction target to be around 30% of business as usual greenhouse gas emissions by 2020. College campuses were ranked at the 5th of high energy consumption areas in the building sectors. Target management scheme was designed to set greenhouse gas emissions target including several college campuses. Previous studies showed the amount of greenhouse gas emissions with several assumptions such as the applications of renewable energy systems and light emitting diode lamps, etc. Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning model was utilized to simulate future greenhouse gas emissions. This study sets standard model labs for energy saving action programs by applying guidance studies. It has been deduced that energy saving action programs was responsible for reducing 949.5 kWh for each standard model lab and the total reduction of all 59 model labs in the Engineering College building has been calculated to 56,020.5 kWh. The objective of the study is to provide guidelines on standard model laboratory for greenhouse gas emissions reduction on the campus.

  • This study aims to investigate planning characteristics of common and living space in the dormitory buildings on campus in Chungcheong province. A document research method was used to analyze and classified into floor-plan, zoning and area. Also site visits were conducted at 8 dormitory buildings of 4 universities, and drawings were collected and compared for this research. The results of this study were as follows; 1)Most floor plans of public spaces had corridor types and integrated public space types. The typical floorplan of living space was 2person-1bedroom and apartment type which shared livingroom, bathroom, restroom and shower between bedrooms. The living space type of dormitory buildings was more complex and growth in size. Unit community combined 2-4person per 1bedroom in floor plan can help student with identity and affiliated formation. 2)The types of the spatial composition in public spaces were devided into three zones; study, living and administrative zones such as seminar room, public bathroom and storage, etc. This results shows that various types of public space for the improvement of community of small group has recently become more important than basic sanitary space in public space of dormitory buildings on campus.

  • University campuses, in Korea, experienced expansion during the 1970's and exceeded its capacity in the 1980's. On the other hand, universities needed to deal with increasing capacity and expansion of its facilities. This study is carried out in three steps : developing the factors of environmental friendly assessment, designing an assessment table based on specific categories, and applying the categories to the campus of Seoul National University. The assessment factors and assessment table were designed through a survey of experts in landscaping, architecture, and urban planning. The elements of major categories were classified as follows; 1) Management of land and accessibility, 2) Pollution and waste matter, 3) Energy, 4) Natural resources, 5) Operation, maintenance and management of environmental friendly campus. And, this study classified five major categories into twenty subcategories on the evaluation of the environmental friendly campus. The twenty subcategories include various fields such as architecture, landscape architecture, environment, urban design, and social sciences etc., profound studies at this line should make more precise assesment guidelines.
