  • Cam mechanisms are one of the most popular devices for generating intermittent motion and are widely used in many areas. Also, as being interested in research of precision field, cam mechanism is required high accuracy and continuity, In. In this paper, the cam mechanism of filament automatic assembly machine design for precision motion is proposed. The modelling of a cam mechanism, cam profile functions, and the design of the cam considering the precision positioning of the cam mechanism is studied. And, simulation of designed cam mechanism had been carried out dynamic analysis.

Study on Profile Generation of Conjugate Plate Cams for a Roller Gear Cam Mechanism

  • A roller gear cam mechanism is presented. It consists of two or more plate cams with particular teeth, called Conjugate Cam Tooth (CCT) and a turret with axially located rollers. A practical and available configuration has been found out by synthesizing its parameters. The profile equations of the conjugate cam are derived by using a relative velocity method. A program fur the design automation of shape of the conjugate cam and the motion simulation of this kind of mechanism has been deve1oped using the derived formulae with C++ language. Finally, an example is given.

  • The objective of this study is to understand the dynamic characterictics of OHV type valve trains and to design and optimal cam profile which will improve engine performance. A numerical model for valve train dynamics is presented, which aims at both accuracy and computational efficiency. The lumped mass model and distributed parameter model were used to describe the valve train dynamics. Nonlinear characterictics in the valve spring behavior were included in the model. Comprehensive experiments were carried out concerning the valve train dynamics, and the model was tuned based on the test results. The dynamic model was used in designing an optimal cam profile. Because the objective function has many local minima, a conventional local optimizer cannot be used to find an optimal solution. A modified adaptive random search method is successfully employed to solve the problem. Cam lobe area could be increased up to 7.3% without any penalties in kinematic and dynamic behaviors of the valve train.

  • Cam mechanisms are one of the most popular devices for generating irregular motion and are widely used in many automatic equipments, such as textile machinery, internal combustion engines and other automatic devices. In order to obtain the positive motion of follower by rotating cam, its shape should be correctly designed and manufactured. In present paper, a CAD/CAM system is developed for shape design of disk cams using relative velocity method and NC code generation using the biarc curve interpolation. And, a disk cam is successfully manufactured by the developed CAD/CAM system. Thus, it is shown that the developed CAD/CAM system can be used for high precision cam profile CNC grinding machine.

자동차 엔진 밸브트레인의 타음감소를 위한 캠 형상 설계 (Cam Profile Design for Impulsive Noise Reduction of Automotive Engine Valve Train)

  • Valve train is one of the important noise sources in idling engines. Valve train noise comes mostly from two different impacts. One is the impact between cam and tappet at the beginning of the valve open period, which is an important source of impulsive noise of valve trains. The other is the impact between valve and valve seat at the closing of the valve open period. In case of mechanical lash adjusters, it is very difficult to control the initial impact. In this paper, we designed various types of cam profiles, especially in the opening ramp design, and investigated the effect of cam profiles on the magnitude of the initial impact. The effects that some cam design parameters have on the impulsive noise are also observed.

  • In this paper, and optimum profile of a cam being used in a VTR Deck mechanism is designed by the response surface analysis. The objective function of the design is to reduce driving torque of the pinch roller system that is used to compress video tape to the capstan motor axia. The pinch roller system that will be designed is modeled using the general purpopse mechanism analysis program DADS. The computer model is compared with the physical system for reliability. A model function to represent relationship between design variables and the objective function is estimated by the response surface analysis. Once the model function is reliably estimated the optimal design is carried out using the model function and each design variable's boundaries. To verify improvement of the pinch roller system, a prototype for the pinch rooler system is made and tested. From the test result, an optimum cam profile to resuce driving torque of the pinch roller system is verified.

상용 CAM시스템을 활용한 금형 형상부(CORE/CAVITY)의 가공에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Machining of Die Profile Using the CAM System)

  • The purpose of the present paper is to investigate about the machining of profile (core/cavity) of mold die using the commercial CAM system. Recently the requirement of the light weight and high performance of automobiles has Increased. The weight of the automobile is very important in the viewpoint of the fuel and traveling performance. The optimal design technique, material technique, the process design for parts and specially, die machining technique need to be developed for increasing productivity and reducing production time of the automobile parts. In this study, the effect of machining condition on precision of die profile is investigated by experimental observation and analysis. The results will be reflected for development of the precision die of the automobile.

CRP 시스템의 피팅수명 (Pitting Life of CRP System)

  • Cam rack pinion (CRP) system which consists of cam rack and roller pinion transforms the rotation motion into linear one. The roller pinion has the plurality of rollers and meshes with its conjugated cam rack. The exact tooth profile of the cam rack and the non-undercut condition to satisfy the required performance have been proposed by introducing the profile shift coefficient. The load stress factors are investigated by varying the shape design parameters to predict the gear surface fatigue limit which is strongly related to the gear noise and vibration at the contact patch. The results show that the pitting life can be extended significantly by increasing the profile shift coefficient.
