  • Customers want to have more convenient and comfortable vehicle. Motor-on-caliper EPB(Electrical Parking Brake) System is one of the new systems for customer's convenience. It is applied for Midsize vehicle for reducing weight/price compared to cable puller type EPB. In this paper we studied sound quality improvement of motor-on-caliper EPB system. We developed the sound quality index and suggested the interior sound quality target value. To meet the target value cascading target was also suggested. EPB motor vibration level & sound radiation level, vibro-acoustic transfer function level from EPB to interior was defined. To find out effective way of sound quality improvement and find cascading target, TPA(Transfer Path Analysis) was carried out.

풍력발전기 요 브레이크 시스템의 설계 (Design for Yaw Brake System in Wind Turbine)

  • Yaw brakes are used in wind turbines to control the orientation of blades to be perpendicular to the wind. These devices are very important machine elements because they are closely related to the overall efficiency of wind turbines. One unit of yaw brakes is composed of a friction pad and a caliper. In this study, a tangential force between the friction pad and the disk is calculated when the brake is acting in 750 kW wind turbine. Then, stress distribution and the deformation of the caliper are calculated using a finite element analysis. An experimental equipment is also developed to verify the exactness of calculated results. The analytical and experimental results are presented and discussed.

스퀼 융합모델을 이용한 접촉부 강성인자에 따른 브레이크 스퀼 영향도 연구 (Effect of Contact Stiffness on Brake Squeal Analysis Using Analytical FE Squeal Model)

  • The analytical-finite element(FE) squeal model is applied to investigate the squeal propensity associated with contact stiffness of the disc brake system. The system contact stiffness is incorporated into the perturbed equations of motion in the analytical manner where the brake components are modeled by FE method. The results show that the contact stiffness of the friction material and the contact stiffness between the pads and caliper are the influential factors on the squeal propensity. Particularly, the modal instability of the 3200 Hz squeal mode drastically changes with respect to the contact stiffness between the pads and caliper.

  • Recently, there is a big issue of downsizing on brake system according to fuel efficiency and regenerative braking cooperation control. Especially, small cars have improved in a variety ways such as electric vehicle and smart car compared to previous small cars. So, small brake system is strongly required in the car industry. A new small brake system for light compact vehicles was proposed in this paper. For this system, the solid type disc and caliper were newly developed. And the important design factors were considered to reduce brake size. First, we calculated the temperature rise of disc through heat capacity formula and CAE analysis. Second, we analyzed the housing and carrier stiffness of caliper to select the reasonable condition. Finally, the superiorities of the developed brake system were verified by heat capacity, consumption liquid level, braking feeling, judder, wear test and regenerative braking cooperation control analysis. A developed brake system is expected to be useful for brake system of light compact platform.

  • Recently, the automotive industry has been developing rapidly. With the progress parts of the automobile components need high quality and the reliability. Among them, braking unit is essential device, and acquire the reliability through the performance test of brake. This study was aimed to design the performance-test-bench to measure the drag torque which has effect on caliper in braking unit. In this progressive technology, it is vital importance to use hydraulic and pneumatic, and to combine test bench with instrumentation engineering technology. This system to construct the design of hydraulic and pneumatic circuit, interface technique between sensors and personal computer, data acquisition and display design, and integrated control are very important technology. Moreover, reliable data are obtained through vacuum system and hydraulic and pneumatic system by using of booster and brake master cylinder which are actually applied to automobile. Then, data signal detector sensors for speed, pressure and torque is attached on this system. Therefore, in this study, we designed a performance-test-bench by and we also made an total control system using personal computer which is more progressive and flexible method than existing PLC control.

  • 가스 배관 진단 시스템은 배관 내부에 투입되어 배관 내부의 여러 정보를 수집한다. 배관 진단을 위한 센서로는 배관 내부의 상태를 측정하는 캘리퍼(caliper) 센서와 온도, 압력센서가 있다. 그리고 정확한 위치 정보를 제공할 수 있는 IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit)와 주행 거리계를 사용하는 결합 항법 시스템도 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 가스 배관 진단시스템을 위한 항법 데이터 저장 시스템을 개발한다. 항법 데이터 저장 시스템은 실시간 동작을 위하여 마스터/슬레이브 구조를 가진다. 마스터 시스템은 항법 데이터를 저장하거나 통신하는데 사용하며 슬레이브 시스템은 센서 데이터를 처리한다. 개발된 항법 데이터 저장 시스템의 성능은 Pull Rig 실험을 통하여 검증한다.

캘리퍼 모드에 의한 디스크 브레이크 스퀼 시험 및 해석 (Numerical and Experimental Analysis for Disc Brake Squeal Induced by Caliper Mode)

  • 본 논문은 차량 제동 시 발생하는 소음의 원인을 해석적으로 예측하고, 본 실험실에서 제작한 브레이크 다이나모 메터를 이용하여 실험적으로 검증하였다. 압력 변화에 따른 브레이크 시스템에 대한 주파수 응답 시험 및 유한 요소 해석(FEM)을 실시하여 캘리퍼 및 디스크의 수직 모드(Out-of-plane)의 시스템 주파수를 추적하였다. 이를 제동 시 발생한 스퀼 소음의 주파수와 비교해본 결과 스퀼 주파수는 캘리퍼 및 패드의 변위를 갖는 시스템 모드임을 확인하였다. 또한 유한 요소 해석을 이용한 복소수 고유치 해석 결과 패드의 회전변위를 발생시키는 캘리퍼 모드가 음의 마찰곡선 기울기와 연동하여 불안정하게 됨을 확인하였다.

통풍식 자동차 디스크 브레이크의 열탄성 불안정성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study of Thermoelastic Instability in Automotive Ventilated Disk Brake)

  • The present study describes an experimental investigation of temperature fluctuations associated with thermal instability. Surface temperatures of brake disk and pad were monitered at various locations in a caliper type brake system during drag braking conditions. It was found that the thermal instability appeared in pad more seriously than in disk. The temperatures at various circumferential positions fluctuate synchronously, whereas the center temperature fluctuates with 180$^{\circ}$ phase difference from the outer and inner radius temperatures. The temperature and amplitude of the temperature perturbations are increased due to the increase of contact area in the center location. It was also found that the thermal instability was dominantly determined by the increase of rotation speed and pressure. And the modification of ventilation path could retard the onset of thermal instability.

  • Recently, many studies have been performed and good results have been reported in literature on the prediction of the brake disk temperature. However, study on the brake fluid temperature is rarely found despite of its importance. In this study, brake fluid temperature is predicted according to material property of brake piston. For the analysis, a typical disk-pad brake system is modeled including the brake disk, pad, caliper, piston and brake fluid. Vehicle deceleration, weight distribution by deceleration, disc-pad heat division and the cooling of brake components are considered in the analysis of heat transfer. Unsteady-state temperature distribution are analyzed by using the finite element method and numerical results are compared with the vehicle test data

자동차 제동시스템의 패드, 라이닝, 허브디스크에 관련된 트라이볼로지적인 특성에 관한 고장사례연구 (Failure Study for Tribological Characteristics Including with Pad, Lining and Hub disk in Vehicle Brake System)

  • The purpose of this paper is to study and analyze the improvement method for the failure examples including the vehicle brake system in actual field. It was verified that the indicator plate of pad wear scratched the brake disk because of wearing after displacement of non- identification parts pad. The caliper of other vehicle was installed with brake system verified the phenomenon produced groove in center point because of one side wear when the pad was not fully contacted with the rub disk by other action surface pressure and pad action condition. It verified that the crack phenomenon fatigue was produced by brake thermal deformation because of decreasing the thickness by grinding to modify the non-uniformed wear of brake disk. It verified that the friction sound was produced by the friction phenomenon because of non-uniformed contact of lining and an alien substance with inner of the drum and lining braking by crack phenomenon with brake drum surface.
