Robot calibration is very important to improve the accuracy of robot manipulators. However, the calibration procedure is very time consuming and laborious work for users. In this paper, we propose a method of relative error compensation to make the calibration procedure easier. The method is completed by a Pi-Sigma network architecture which has sufficient capability to approximate the relative relationship between the accuracy compensations and robot configurations while maintaining an efficient network learning ability. By experiment of 4-DOF SCARA robot, KIRO-3, it is shown that both the error of joint angles and the positioning error of end effector are drop to 15$\%$. These results are similar to those of other calibration methods, but the number of measurement is remarkably decreased by the suggested compensation method.

This paper contains a precise calibration technique for the position of seabed acoustic target and theoretical error analysis of calibration results. The target is deployed on seabed as a standalone transponder. The purpose of target is performing accuracy test for active sonar as well as position calibration itself. For the position calibration, relative range between target and test vessel should be measured using target's transponder function. The relative range data combined with vessel position can be converted into a estimated position of target by the application of nonlinear LSE method. The error analysis of position calibration was divided into two stages. One is for relative range estimator and the other for target position estimator. Numerical simulations for position calibration showed good matching between results and developed CRLB.
Odometry using wheel encoders is one of the fundamental techniques for the pose estimation of wheeled mobile robots. However, odometry has a drawback that the position errors are accumulated when the travel distance increases. Therefore, position errors are required to be reduced using appropriate calibration schemes. The UMBmark method is the one of the widely used calibration schemes for two wheel differential drive robots. In UMBmark method, it is assumed that odometry error sources are independent. However, there is coupled effect of odometry error sources. In this paper, a new calibration scheme by considering the coupled effect of error sources is proposed. We also propose the test track design for the proposed calibration scheme. The numerical simulation and experimental results show that the odometry accuracy can be improved by the proposed calibration scheme.

The strain measurement of the panel in the sheet metal forming is essential work which provides experimental data needed to die design, process design, and product inspection. To measure efficiently the complex geometry strain, the 3-dimensional automative strain measurement system, which has high accuracy in theory, but has some 3∼5% errors in practice, is often used. The object of this study is to develop the error compensation technology to eliminate the strain, errors resulted when formed panels are measured using an automated strain measurement system. To achieve the study object, the position error calibration method correcting coordinates of the grid node recognized by a camera using error functions is suggested. Then the position errors were found by calculating the difference in the position of the cube node between real coordinates and measured coordinates in toms of node coordinates and the error calibration equations were derived by regressing the position errors. In order to show the validation of the suggested position error calibration method, finite element analysis and current calibration method was performed for the initial-blankformed.

3 Dimensional measurement system using camera and laser slit-ray is studied. Precise calibration technique in this system is suggested. Calibration is accomplished with calibration die, calibration block and robot. For obtaining calibration parameters, the equations are solved using least square error method from a great many calibration points to reduce measuring error. Continuous measurement is possible for the object which is larger than one frame of camera. The efficiency and usability are proved by applying to the tire profile measuring system which measures tire profile using robot and this system.
The LH-OAT (Latin Hypercube One factor At a Time) method for sensitivity analysis and SCE-UA (Shuffled Complex Evolution at University of Arizona) optimization method were applied for the automatic calibration of SWAT model in Bocheong-cheon watershed. The LH-OAT method which combines the advantages of global and local sensitivity analysis effectively identified the sensitivity ranking for the parameters of SWAT model over feasible parameter space. Use of this information allows us to select the calibrated parameters for the automatic calibration process. The performance of the automatic calibration of SWAT model using SCE-UA method depends on the length of calibration period, the number of calibrated parameters, and the selection of statistical error criteria. The performance of SWAT model in terms of RMSE (Root Mean Square Error), NSEF (Nash-Sutcliffe Model Efficiency), RMAE (Relative Mean Absolute Error), and NMSE (Normalized Mean Square Error) becomes better as the calibration period and the number of parameters defined in the automatic calibration process increase. However, NAE (Normalized Average Error) and SDR (Standard Deviation Ratio) were not improved although the calibration period and the number of calibrated parameters are increased. The result suggests that there are complex interactions among the calibration data, the calibrated parameters, and the model error criteria and a need for further study to understand these complex interactions at various representative watersheds.

This paper presents the characteristics of the dynamic response and calibration technique on a linear variable differential transformer(LVDT). The linear error of the LVDT was proven $\pm$1% in the static calibration and $\pm$0.5% in the dynamic calibration. In this paper, the linearity error generated in the static and dynamic state of the core movement can be eliminated using the correction algorithem of the static and dynamic state derived from the least square linear approximation for the nonlinearity of the curves of direct data fitting and Lagrange polynomials. With the static and dynamic calibration method, the calibration accuracy of the LVDT can be reduced to within $\pm{0.5%.}$.
A convenient algorithm for optimizing wavelength selection in multiple linear regression (MLR) has been developed. MOP (MLP Optimization Program) has been developed to test all possible MLR calibration models in a given spectral range and finally find an optimal MLR model with external validation capability. MOP generates all calibration models from all possible combinations of wavelength, and simultaneously calculates SEC (Standard Error of Calibration) and SEV (Standard Error of Validation) by predicting samples in a validation data set. Finally, with determined SEC and SEV, it calculates another parameter called SAD (Sum of SEC, SEV, and Absolute Difference between SEC and SEV: sum(SEC+SEV+Abs(SEC-SEV)). SAD is an useful parameter to find an optimal calibration model without over-fitting by simultaneously evaluating SEC, SEV, and difference of error between calibration and validation. The calibration model corresponding to the smallest SAD value is chosen as an optimum because the errors in both calibration and validation are minimal as well as similar in scale. To evaluate the capability of MOP, the determination of benzene content in unleaded gasoline has been examined. MOP successfully found the optimal calibration model and showed the better calibration and independent prediction performance compared to conventional MLR calibration.
In the sheet metal forming operations, the strain measurement of sheet panel is an essential work which provides the formability information needed in die design, process design, and product inspection. To measure efficiently complex geometry strains, the 3-dimensional automative strain measurement system, which theoretically has a high accuracy but practically has about 3~5% strain error, is often used. For eliminating the strain error resulted in measuring the strains of formed panels using an automated strain measurement system, the position error calibration method is suggested, which computes accurate strains using the grids with accurate nodal coordinates. The accurate nodal coordinates are calculated by adding the nodal coordinates measured by the measurement system and the position error found using the multiple regression method as a function of the main error parameters obtained from the analysis of strain error in a standard cube. For the verification, the strain distributions of square and dome cups obtained from the position error calibration method are compared with those provided by the finite element analysis and ASAME.
The Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) is under development to provide a monitoring of ocean-color around the Korean Peninsula from geostationary platforms. It is planned to be loaded on Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) of Korea. The GOCI has been designed to provide multi-spectral data to detect, monitor, quantify, and predict short term changes of coastal ocean environment for marine science research and application purpose. The target area of GOCI observation covers sea area around the Korean Peninsula. Based on the nonlinear radiometric model, the GOCI calibration method has been derived. The radiometric model of GOCI has been validated through radiometric ground test. From this ground test result, GOCI radiometric model has been changed from second order to third order. In this paper, the radiometric test performed to evaluate the radiometric nonlinearity is described and the GOCI radiometric error propagation is analyzed. The GOCI radiometric calibration is based on onboard calibration devices; solar diffuser, DAMD (Diffuser Aging Monitoring Device). The radiometric model error due to the dark current nonlinearity is considered as a systematic error. Also the offset correction error due to gain/offset instability is considered. The radiometric accuracy depends mainly on the ground characterization accuracies of solar diffuser and DAMD.
