The sweetness (。Bix) of fruit is the main quality factor contributing to the fruit taste. The brix of the apple fruit can be measured non-destructively by near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, allowing the sweetness grading of individual apple fruit. However, the fruit quality is influenced by various factors such as growing location, producing year, variety and harvest time etc., accordingly the robust NIR calibration is required. In this experimental results are presented the influence of two variations such as growing location and producing year of apple fruit in establishing of calibrations for sweetness, and developed a stable and highly accurate calibration. Apple fruit (Fuji) was collected every year from 1995 to 1997 in 3 different growing locations (Andong, Youngchun and Chungsong) of Kyungpook in Korea. NIR reflectance spectra of apple fruit were scanned in wavelength range of 1100∼2500nm using an InfraAlyzer 500C (Bran+Luebbe) with halogen lamp and PbS detector. The multiple linear regression and stepwise was carried out between the NIR raw spectra and the brix measured by refractometer to select the best regression equations. The calibration models by each growing district were well predicted to dependent sample set, but poorly predicted to independent sample set. Combined calibration model using data of three growing districts predicted reasonable well to a population set drawn from all growing districts(SEP = 0.69%, Bias=-0.075). The calibration models by each harvest year were not transferable across harvest year, however a combined calibration model using data of three harvest years was sufficiently robust to predict each sample sets(SEP = 0.53%, Bias = 0.004).

Purpose: To manage radiation measurement equipment, a web-based management program has been developed in this study. Materials and Methods: This program is based on a web service and Java Server Pages (JSP) and employs compatibility and accessibility. Results: The first step in the workflow has been designed to create accounts for each user or organization and to log in. The program consists of two parts: fields for listed instruments, and measurement information. The instruments for measuring radiation listed in this program are as follows: ionization chambers, survey meters, thermometers, barometers, electrometers, and phantoms. Instrument properties can be put in the recording fields and browsing for associated instruments can be performed. The main part of the program is the cross-calibration for each ion chamber. For instance, the ionization chamber to be used as a relative dosimeter can be registered by cross-calibration data with a reference chamber calibrated by an accredited laboratory. This program supports methods using the central axis transfer theory for cross-calibration for the ionization chambers. The reference and field ionization chambers were placed in a solid water phantom along the beam central axis at two different depths, and then the positions were switched. Each measured value was used for calculating the cross-calibration factor. Conclusions: Because many instruments are used and managed in radiation oncology departments, systematic, traceable recording is very important. The web-based program developed in this study is expected to be used effectively in the maintenance of radiation measurement instruments.
For the accurate calibrations of thermometers at low temperatures, triple points of oxygen and argon have been realized using sealed-type triple point cells. The triple points were realized with both adiabatic and continuous heating methods. The resistance of three capsule-type standard platinum resistance thermometers were measured at the triple points of oxygen, argon, mercury and water for the calibrations of these thermometers in the range from $-220^{\circ}C$ to $0.01^{\circ}C$. The extended uncertainty, with the coverage factor of 2, of the calibration in this range is smaller than 1 mK.

In this paper, we discuss a 3-dimensional localization sensor node using EM waves (Electromagnetic waves) with RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator). Generally EM waves cannot be used in underwater environment, because the signal is highly attenuated by the water medium according to the distance. Although the signal quickly reduces in underwater, the reducing tendency is very clear and uniform. Hence EM waves have possibility as underwater distance sensors. The authors have verified the possibility by theory and several experiments, and developed calibration methods in case of linear and planer environment. For 3-dimensional localization in underwater, it must be known antenna's radiation pattern property in electric plane(called E-plane). In this paper, we proceed experiments to verify attenuation tendency with z axis movement, PLF (Polarization Loss Factor) and ILF (Inclination Loss Factor) with its theoretical approach.
Prior to using any computer model, the program-embedded palameters showing significant differences from real world should be calibrated. This is especially true when the model is expected to be used fro various roadway and traffic condition. The calibration of TRANSYT model was conducted for the parameters of start-up delay, and lag, stop penalty(K), platoon dispersion factor, and saturation flow rate. The values of the parameters were obtained by theoretical methods from actual field measurements for discharging and arrival pattern. The sites elected for the study was an intersection of Dongil-Ro and Hwarang-Ro, and a 334 meter downstrean section from the intersection stop line on westbound Hwarang-Ro. The study results showed that the start-up delay was 2.6 sec, end lag was 1.0 sec, saturation flow rate was 2287 pcphgpl, platoon dispersion factor was 0.2-03, and stop penalty(K) was 32. However, since these parameters re apt to depend on traffic and roadway condition, it is doubtful whether the obtained values will be applicable to the area-wide situation other than this particular site.
Assessment of a monumental concrete arch bridge with a total length of 210 meters having three major spans of 30 meters and a height of 65 meters, which is located in an earthquake-prone region in southern part of the country is presented in this study. Three-dimensional finite element model of the bridge was generated using a commercially available general finite element analysis software and based on the outcomes of a series of in-depth acceleration measurements that were conducted on-site, the model was refined. By using the structural parameters obtained from the dynamic and the static tests, calibrated model of the bridge structure was obtained and this model was used for necessary calculations regarding structural assessment and evaluation.

To investigate the matrix effect of sample for hydrogen analysis by inert gas fusion-thermal conductivity detection, calibration factor for the hydrogen analyser of the inert gas fusion-thermal conductivity detection method was measured with hydrogen standard materials in Ti, Zr-2.5Nb and by hydrogen gas dosing method. Also the hydrogen extraction efficiency for the different sample matrix, Ti and Zr-2.5Nb, was evaluated without adding tin flux. The calibration factor of the hydrogen analyser which was calibrated by hydrogen standard material in Zr-2.5Nb and Ti was 2~3% and 14% higher than that by hydrogen gas dosing method, respectively. Based on the results of calibration factor measurement, it could be concluded that the hydrogen extraction efficiency of the Ti matrix sample will be 12% lower than that of the Zr-2.5Nb. And according to the experimental results of hydrogen recovery test by no tin flux, the hydrogen recovery percentage of the Ti and Zr-2.5Nb matrix sample was about 70% but the recovery rate of Ti matrix sample was slightly lower than that of Zr-2.5Nb.
We have developed a whole-head MEG system for basic brain research and clinical application. The sensor system consists of a 152 SQUID gradiometer array oriented and located in a suitable way to cover a whole head of the human. The system measures magnetic fields generated by neuronal currents in the brain to get information on the brain activities. For this purpose, the field sensitivity determined by the position, orientation and geometry of the pickup coil as well as amplification factor of the electronic circuits should be known precisely. However, the position and orientation of the pickup coil might be changed from the designed specifications during cool down of the dewar and it is necessary to characterize the field sensitivity. In this study, we made calibration systems to determine the actual position and orientation of the 152 pickup coils and compared the localization results of the N100m source in the auditory cortex.

In this study, estimate solution of ultimate axial capacity for axial loaded pile is proposed using step-wised shape. This is verified for effective appling on realistic factor by calibration chamber tests. Estimation method of ultimate axial capacity in this study is verified by calibration chamber test. The results of ultimate axial capacity through this proposed method have sufficiently low standard derivations and COVs. Also, this is verified through test that method is similarly resulted with measured values.
