구절초진주식초 (Vinegar Produced from Chrysanthemum zawadskii and Pearl Shell)

  • 동과착즙액에 에탄올을 가해 초산발효시켜서 산도 5.0%의 식초를 만들고, 여기에 구절초 추출액(농도 10%)을 10%를 가한 다음, 조개껍질을 녹여서 식초를 제조하였다. 동과 식초에 대하여 꼬막껍질, 굴껍질, 전복껍질을 1% 가하면 97.2~98.4% 녹고, 2% 가하면 95.8~95.6% 녹았다. 조개껍질을 1% 녹인 식초의 산도는 3.00~3.17, 2% 녹인 것은 1.11~1.20였고, 조개껍질을 1% 녹인 식초의 pH는 4.54~4.55, 2% 녹인 식초는 4.86~4.95로 조개껍질 1%짜리의 경우 시판 식초보다 산도가 높으면서도 pH 수치가 높아서 유리산이 적었다. 초산발효시 구절초를 가하면 1%일 경우 저해율 44.4%, 0.12%일 경우 저해율 22.2%을 나타내므로 구절초는 초산발효 후 첨가해야 한다. 조개껍질 1% 식초의 칼슘함량은 0.4%, 2% 식초는 0.78%였다. 열처리하지 않은 동과는 angiotensin 전환효소 저해활성 21.7%, 항산화효소 활성 5.23%, 티로시나제 저해활성 5.5%를 나타냈고, 열처리 추출 동과는 angiotensin 전환효소 저해활성 16.1%, superoxide dismutase 활성 20.5%, 항산화 활성 23.2%, 티로시나제 저해활성 7.1%를 나타냈다. 구절초는 angiotensin 전환효소 저해활성 28.8%, xanthine oxidase 저해활성 28.2%, speroxide dismutase 활성 14.5%, 항산화 활성 3.2%, 티로시나제 저해활성 9.2%로 나타났다. 10% 시료를 인간폐암상피세포주 A549 세포에 가한 결과, 세포는 동과가열추출액의 경우, 72시간에 80%, 생동과는 48시간 뒤에 74%, 구절초 가열 추출액은 72시간 뒤에 100% 암세포를 감소시켜 항암작용을 나타냈다.

왕우렁이 (apple snails)의 생리.생태적 특성에 관한 연구 (Physiological and Ecological Characteristics of the Apple Snails)

  • 왕우렁이가 자연상태에 전파되어 서식되는 경로는 양식장의 배수시, 총수로 인한 노지 양식장 붕괴 및 제초용 왕우렁이 입식에 의하여 이루어지고 있다. 왕우렁이의 생리적 특성을 보면 알 크기는 2.47 mm, 난괴크기는 $1.8\times4.3\times0.94$ cm, 알무게 12.78 mg, 산란수157$\sim$784개/1마리 (평균 321개/마리) 유체크기 1.69$\sim$2.15 mm, 유체 무게 3.32 mg, 최저 산란 왕우렁이 크기 2.40$\sim$2.26 cm 이상, 1개알 산란소요시간 22.4초 였다. 알의 색변화는 산란직후 우유빛의 연분홍에서 중기에는 선홍색, 부화직전 에는 흐린 연보라색으로 변화하면서 부화된다. 왕우렁이 섭식 대상은 벼, 논잡초, 미나리, 토마토, (양)배추, 무, 호박, 콩잎 등 대부분 농작물을 포함한 식물체 및 동족의 왕우렁이 등 수중동물이었다. 왕우렁이 월동지역은 장항, 장성 및 해남지역으로 양지녘의 식물체 줄기나 벼 그루터기에 산란된 알과 성체 상태로 저수지나 논의 물웅덩이에서 월동고, 5월 중순이후 수로의 벽이나 식물체 줄기에 산란하며 6월과 9월에 번식이 가장 왕성하였다. 서식지 수질특성은 변이 폭이 컸으나 pH가 7.07$\sim$9.50 범위로 알칼리성에서 주로 번성하였다. 왕우렁이에 한 벼 가해 양상중 벼 발아초미에는 왕우렁이 크기에 관계없이 모두 벼싹을 가해하였고, 벼품종과 생육시기에 따라 차이가 있으며 어린묘 일수록 가해율이 높았으며, 이앙후 45일 벼 (초장 약 73 cm)도 각고 3.3$\sim$3.5 cm 이상의 중형 왕우렁이는 가해하였다.

상향 개화형 백색 오리엔탈나리 'Pacific Wave' 육성 (Breeding of Oriental Lily 'Pacific Wave' with Upward-facing and White Petals)

  • 'Pacific Wave'는 농촌진흥청 국립원예특작과학원에서 2007년에 육성된 절화용 오리엔탈나리 품종이다. 수출용 상향개화성 오리엔탈나리 품종을 육성하기 위하여 1999년 백색의 'Simplon'과 분홍색의 'Spinoza'를 주두수분에 의해 교잡을 하여 획득한 교배실생 중에서 화색이 백색이고 상향개화성이며 향기가 강하고 화형이 안정된 'O-03-16' 계통을 2003년에 선발하였다. 이 계통의 특성검정은 조직배양에 의한 대량증식, 순화 및 양구를 거쳐 특정검정을 수행하였다. 2007년 '원교C1-92호'로 수원에서 3차 특성검정 및 계통 평가회의 기호성 조사를 통해 최종적으로 절화용 오리엔탈나리로 선발하여 'Pacific Wave'라 명명하였다. 'Pacific Wave'품종의 개화기는 2월부터 가온했을 때 6월 중순이었고, 꽃의 향기가 강하다. 화색은 백색에 황색(RHS, W155C + Y9A)심이 있고, 포장수송상 유리한 상향개화성이다. 식물의 초장은 115cm이고, 꽃의 크기는 20.1 cm이다. 꽃의 화피장은 12.2 cm, 화피폭은 4.2 cm이다. 엽장은 12.3 cm이고, 엽폭은 2.9cm 이다. 꽃에는 돌기반점이 있으며, 주두는 진한 회색이고 화분은 붉은 갈색이다. 구근의 크기는 19.6cm, 중량은 82.5 g이다. 구근 수확 후 -1 또는 $-2^{\circ}C$의 조건에서 동결저장을 하여 정식시기를 달리하면 주년개화가 가능하다. 엽소현상을 방지하기 위해서는 칼슘시비 및 대구의 외인편을 제거해 주는 것이 필요하고, 여름 장마시기에는 잎마름병 방제가 필요하다.

불화수소(弗化水素)가스에 의(依)한 수도(水稻) 및 잡초(雜草)의 피해(被害) 조사연구(調査硏究) (Studies on the Effects of Hydrogen Fluoride Gas in Paddy Rice and Weeds at Fluorine Damaged Site)

  • 양평(楊坪) 산간계곡(山間溪谷)의 수도(水稻) 및 산야초(山野草)의 피해(被害)는 현지(現地)의 피해상황(被害狀況), 피해증상(被害症狀)과 식물체중(植物體中)의 불소함량(弗素含量) 및 무기성분량(無機成分量)의 변화(變化)를 조사(調査)한 결과(結果)는 다음과 같다. 1) 수도(水稻)의 엽피해정도(葉被害程度)는 100m 지점(地點)까지는 95%, 500m 지점(地點)에서는 65%, 2㎞ 지점(地點)에서는 5%정도(程度)였다. 2) 피해증상특미(被害症狀特微) ${\cdot}$ 수도(水滔) : 심(甚)한 것은 백색(白色)으로 고사(枯死)하고 경미(輕微)한 것은 엽선단부위(葉先端部位)에 백색(白色)이나 적갈색(赤褐色)이 발견(發見) ${\cdot}$ 잡초(雜草) : 심(甚)한 것은 적갈색(赤褐色)으로 고사(枯死)하고 경미(輕微)한 것은 엽선단(葉先端)이 적갈색(赤褐色)으로 고사(枯死) 3) 식물체중(植物體中) 불소함량(弗素含量) ${\cdot}$ 수도(水稻) : 엽중(葉中) 불소함량(弗素含量)은 $170{\sim}3,225ppm$이고 근(根)에서는 $68.8{\sim}3,000ppm$이었으나 엽선단(葉先端)의 피해부위(被害部位)가 엽중심부(葉中心部) 보다 불소함량(弗素含量)이 $3{\sim}20$배(倍)많았다. ${\cdot}$ 잡초(雜草) : 무피해엽중(無被害葉中) 불소함량(弗素含量)은 $10{\sim}15ppm$이고 피해엽(被害葉)은 $130{\sim}242.5ppm$이였고, 엽선단(葉先端)의 피해부위(被害部位)는 중심부보다 $1.2{\sim}7$배정도(倍程度) 많았다. 4) 피해엽(被害葉)의 선단부위(先端部位)에 CaO, $K_2O,\;SiO_2$ Fe, 및 Mn 등(等)이 축적(蓄積)되었다. 5) 피해(被害)가 가장 적은 식물(植物)은 댕댕이덩굴이며 피해(被害)가 심(甚)한 식물(植物)은 산딸기, 두릅나무 등(等)이었다. 이상(以上)의 조사결과(調査結果) 본(本) 피해(被害)는 피해지(被害地) 린근(隣近)에서 불화수소산(弗化水素酸)을 리용(利用)한 세멘트 경화제(硬化劑) 제조시(製造時) 발생(發生)한 불화수소(弗化水素)가스에 의(依)한 피해(被害)로 판단(判斷)되었다.

향어의 장포자충(Thelohanellus kitauei)증의 예방 및 치료에 관한 기초적 연구 II. 물리화학적 요인이 장포자충 포자에 미치는 영향 (Prophylactic and therapeutic studies on intestinal giant-cystic disease of the Israel carp caused by Thelophanellus kitauei II. Effects of physical and chemical factors on T. kitauei spores in vitro)

  • 장포자충(Thelohanellus kitauei) 포자의 극사탈출 여부를 생사 각정 기준으로 하여 물리 화학적 요인이 포자의 활성 및 생존에 미치는 영향에 대하여 관찰하였다. 신선 포자를 0.45% 및 0.9% 생리식염수와 증류수에 현학시켜 $5^{\circ}C$ 또는 $28^{\circ}C$에 단기간 보존하면 3일까지, Tyrode액에 철 탁시켜 $-70^{\circ}C$에 단기간 냉동 보존하면 8일까지 극사탈출률이 상승하였다. 신선 포자를 0,45%생리 식염수에 현탁시켜 $5^{\circ}C$에 장기간 보존하면 1,270일간 생존할 수 있을 것으로 추정되며, 증류수에 현탁시켜 $28^{\circ}C$에 보존하면 152일간 밖에 생존하지 않으나, Tyrode액에 현탁시켜 $-70^{\circ}C$에 법통 보존하면 750일 후에도 냉동 초기와 거의 같은 패턴으로 생존하는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 신선 효 자를 Tyrode액에 현탁, 냉동시킨 다음 $5^{\circ}C$의 조건 하에서 해동시킬 때 포자의 극사설출률이 가잔 높았다. 냉동 후 해동 포자에 열을 가하면 냉동기간이 길수록 극사탈출률이 약간 높아지는 경향이었으며 180일간 냉동례에 있어서 포자가 전부 사멸하는 한계점은 대체적으로 $60^{\circ}C$ 78.5시간, $70^{\circ}C$ 23.4시 간, $80^{\circ}C$ 189.1분 또는 $90^{\circ}C$ 10.5분이었다. 냉동 포자의 해동 후 사멸에 요하는 대체적인 기간도 냉동기간이 길수록 길며, 그 한계점은 20일간 냉동시 17.4일, 100일간 냉동 시 33.2일, 400일간 냉동시 37.8일이었다. 냉동 포자를 해동 후 자연건조시키면 냉동시간이 길수록 포자의 사멸에 요 하는 대체적인 기간도 길며, 그 한계점은 540일간 냉동시 23.5일, 160일간 냉동시 21.0일, 20일간 냉동시 14.4일이었다. 한편, 냉동 후 해동 포자에 l0W 자외선등을 조사하면 냉동시간이 길수록 빨리 사멸하며, 그 한계점은 100일간 냉동시 26.0시간, 300일간 냉동시 21.9시간, 540일간 냉동시 13.9시간이었다. 각종 소독제(1,000 ppm)가 200일간 냉동 후 해동 포자를 사멸시키는데 필요한 시 간은 산화칼슘 5.2분, 과망간뜬칼륨 10.4분, 말라카이트그린 27.8분, 포르말린 14.3시간의 순이었다. 그리고, 각종 항원충 및 둔진균제 중에서 ketoconazole, metronidazole, dapsone의 순으로 일시적인 극사탈출 억제 효과가 인정되었다. 이상의 실험 결과로 미루어 보아 장포자충증의 감염을 예방하기 위해서는 현시점에 있어서 양어장의 바닥을 콘크리트로 축달하여 완전 건조시킨 다음 산화칼슘을 철포하고 태양광선을 수일 간에 걸쳐 조사시키는 방법 밖에 없는 것으로 생각된다.

학령 전 아동의 식습관, 신체 발달 및 영양 섭취상태에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Dietary Behaviors, Physical Development and Nutrient Intakes in Preschool Children)

  • 유아교육 기관에서의 체계적이고 과학적인 영양관리의 중요성이 부각됨에 따라 어린이의 올바른 식생활 형성, 관리 및 영양교육을 위한 영양관리프로그램 개발의 기초자료 마련을 위해 울산시 보육 시설에 다니는 $3{\sim}6$세 어린이를 대상으로 신체계측 및 식습관, 식품섭취빈도, 영양섭취조사를 한 결과는 다음과 같았다. 1) 어린이가 식사를 잘하지 않는 이유로는 '많은 간식으로 인하여'라는 답이 가장 높은 비율 (50.4%)을 차지하였으며, 규칙적 아침 식사에 있어서는 1주에 $3{\sim}4$번 하는 어린이가 17.9%, $1{\sim}2$번 하는 어린이가 6.2%로 아침 결식률이 높았다. 2) 간식의 빈도로 세 번 이상 주는 경우가 22.8%로 나타났으며 생우유 섭취량이 하루 3컵 이상 마시는 어린이도 11.7%였다. 3) 어린이의 식습관에서 흔히 나타나는 문항을 5점 척도로 식습관을 평가하였다. '식사 시간이 규칙적'이라는 문항에 대해서 평균 $3.5\;{\pm}\;0.9$점으로 가장 높은 점수를 나타내었으며 다음으로 '적당양을 섭취한다'의 문항으로 평균 $3.4\;{\pm}\;1.0$, '음식 투정을 하지 않는다' $3.1\;{\pm}1.0$, '음식을 골고루 섭취한다' $3.0\;{\pm}\;1.0$로 나타났으며 마지막으로 '식사를 빨리 끝낸다'의 문항에 대해서는 $2.7\;{\pm}\;0.9$의 낮은 점수로 평가되었다. 또한 5문항 전체 평가에 있어서는 식습관이 우수하다고 판정되는 어린이가 9.0%에 불과했으며 대부분 식습관이 보통인 것으로 평가되었으나 식습관이 불량하다고 판정되는 경우도 6.2%로 유치원에서부터 어린이의 식습관 개선을 위한 영양교육이 필요하다고 보여진다. 4) 어린이의 식품군별 섭취빈도 점수를 점수화하여 비교 분석한 결과 가장 낮은 섭취를 나타낸 식품군은 녹황색 채소류로 평가 점수가 $1.8\;{\pm}\;0.9$였으며, 다음이 미역, 김 등의 해조류의 식품이 $2.1\;{\pm}\;1.1$, 과일류가 $2.5\;{\pm}\;1.2$의 순으로 평가되었다. 어육류, 계란, 콩 등 단백질 식품은 $2.6\;{\pm}\;1.1$, 우유 및 유제품의 경우는 $3.3\;{\pm}\;1.1$로 가장 자주 섭취하는 식품군으로 나타났으며, 튀김 음식의 경우 어린이의 32.4%가 주에 $1{\sim}2$번 정도로 거의 섭취하지 않는다고 답하여 평점 $3.0\;{\pm}\;0.9$로 식습관의 진단에는 양호한 결과를 보였다 4) 어린이의 건강 상태를 5점 척도로 평가한 결과 감기 증상이 $3.1\;{\pm}\;1.0$로 가장 낮은 점수를 나타내었으며 알레르기 증상이 $3.7\;{\pm}\;1.3$로 낮은 결과를 보여 영양소 섭취 부족에 의한 임상 증상들에 비해 면역에 대한 질환의 위험도가 높은 것으로 조사되었다. 어린이의 건강 점수는 50.3%가 양호한 것으로 나타났으며 47.6%가 보통, 2.1%가 건강 위험이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 5) 대상 어린이의 신장은 평균 $103.6\;{\pm}\;6.4\;cm$였으며 남아의 경우 $104.5\;{\pm}\;6.3\;cm$, 여아의 경우 $102.6\;{\pm}\;6.4\;cm$로 연령 간에는 유의한 차이 (p < 0.05)가 있었으며 남녀 어린이 간에는 유의한 차이가 없었다. 체중은 평균 $17.8\;{\pm}\;3.0\;kg$였고, 남아 평균 $18.4\;{\pm}\;3.2\;kg$, 여아 평균 $17.1\;{\pm}\;2.7\;kg$였다. 연령 간에는 4세에는 유의한 차이가 없었으나 5세, 6세에는 유의한 차이가 있었으며, 남녀 어린이 간에는 4세에만 유의한 차이가 있었다. 6) WLI를 기준으로 비만율을 판정한 결과 저체중율은 11.1%, 과체중 이상의 어린이 비율이 17.4%로 나타났다. Rohrer지수의 경우 비만도의 평가는 저체중율은 전혀 없었으며, 과체중 이상의 어린이가 86.8%로 높게 나타났다. Kaup 지수에 의한 비만율은 저체중율이 2.8%, 과체중 이상의 경우는 29.2%로 나타나 WLI에 의한 빈도보다는 조금 높았으며, 비만 지수 (Obesity Index)를 이용한 경우 저체중율이 2.1%, 과체중 이상 어린이가 20.8%로 판정되었다. 본 연구 어린이의 성장의 특징은 모든 지표에서 3세에 유의하게 비만지수가 높게 나타났으며 연령이 증가하면서 비만 지수가 낮아지는 경향이었고, 다른 연구 결과에 비해 저체중 비율이 낮았다. 7) 조사 대상 어린이의 영양소 섭취 상태를 조사한 결과에너지 섭취는 한국인영양섭취기준보다 낮은 수준으로 에너지필요추정량 (EER)의 85.7% 수준이었다. 에너지적정섭취비율 (Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Ranges:AMDR)은 탄수화물:단백질:지방의 비율이 62.6:21.5:15.7로 한국인 영양섭취기준에서 제시하는 $55{\sim}70:7{\sim}20:15{\sim}30$과 비교 시 지방의 섭취 비율은 낮은 편이며 단백질의 섭취비율이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 단백질의 섭취는 권장섭취량의 3배가 넘는 수준으로 높은 섭취를 나타내었다. 비타민 A의 경우 권장섭취량의 133%를 섭취하였으며, 어린이에서 가장 섭취율이 낮은 것으로 알려진 칼슘의 경우 권장섭취량의 98.9%를 섭취하였고 무기질과 비타민 중 엽산을 제외한 모든 영양소에서 권장섭취량을 초과 섭취하는 것으로 나타났다. 8) 열량섭취 부족의 어린이는 33.3%, 지방의 섭취가 부족한 어린이의 비율은 42.7%로 조사되었으며, 특히 엽산은 어린이의 85.5%가 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 비타민 A, 나이아신, 비타민 C의 경우 각각 어린이의 29.1%, 35.0%, 47.0%가 섭취 부족인 것으로 조사되었다. 반대로 영양소 과잉 섭취 어린이의 비율은 나이아신의 경우는 24.8%, 비타민 A의 경우 4.3%, 철분은 1.7%로 나타났다. 울산 지역 미취학 아동을 대상으로 실시한 이상의 연구결과를 종합해보면 식사를 잘하지 못하는 이유로 간식섭취가 높기 때문이라고 답한 비율이 높고 실제로 어린이의 간식 섭취 빈도나 우유 및 유제품 섭취량 또한 다른 연구와 비교 시 높은 것으로 판단되어 균형잡힌 식습관에 문제가 있을 것으로 판단되어진다. 또한 다른 지역 연구에 비해 저체중으로 판단되는 어린이의 비율이 낮고 과체중 이상 비만으로 판단되는 어린이의 비율이 높게 나타난 점, 영양소섭취에 대한 조사결과 대부분의 영양소에서 한국인영양섭취기준의 권장섭취량을 초과 섭취 하는 것으로 나타난 점등을 고려할 때 본 연구 어린이에 대해 과잉 영양소 섭취에 대한 좀 더 세밀한 관심과 영양교육이 필요하다고 보여 진다. 따라서 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 지역사회의 건강증진사업을 담당하고 있는 보건소 및 대학, 유아기관 등에서 어린이의 식습관에 대한 교육프로그램 개발에 힘써야 할 것이며, 부모와 어린이의 식생활지도를 통한 교육 프로그램이 활성화 될 수 있도록 지속적인 관심을 가져야 할 것이다.

  • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70$\pm$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32$\pm$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. Neither APD nor UFR showed any significant increase with an increasing number of reuses for up to more than 20reuses. A substantial number of failures observed in APD(larger than 20mmHe/min)on the reused dialyzers(2 out of 40 CP and S out 26 C-DAK) were attributed to the Possible damage on the fibers. The CF 15-11 HFDs which failed APD test did not show changes in the UFR compared to normal dialyzers indicating that APD is a more sensitive test than UFR test to evaluate the integrity of the fibers. 30527 T00401030527 ^x For quantitative measurement of reflected light from a clinical diagnostic strip, a prototype old reflectance photometer was designed. The strip loader and cassette were made to obtain more accurate reflectance parameters. The strip was illuminated at 45˚c through optical fiber and the intensity of reflected light was determined at rectanguLat angle using a photodiode. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm.   • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70${\pm}$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32${\pm}$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. Neither APD nor UFR showed any significant increase with an increasing number of reuses for up to more than 20reuses. A substantial number of failures observed in APD(larger than 20mmHe/min)on the reused dialyzers(2 out of 40 CP and S out 26 C-DAK) were attributed to the Possible damage on the fibers. Optimal parameters of electrical stimulation for slow muscles were 20 Hz, 0.2 ms square pulse. For fast muscle, 40 Hz, 0.3 ms square pulse was optimal to produce repeated contraction. Higher stimulus intensity was required when synergistic muscles were stimulated simultaneously than when they were stimulated individually.
