DFT Study of CO2 Adsorption on the Zn12O12 Nano-cage

  • Covalent functionalization of a $Zn_{12}O_{12}$ nano-cage with $CO_2$ molecule in terms of energetic, geometry, and electronic properties was investigated by density functional theory method. For chemisorption configurations, the adsorption energy of $CO_2$ on the $Zn_{12}O_{12}$ nano-cage for the first $CO_2$ was calculated -1.25 eV with a charge transfer of 1.00|e| from the nano-cage to the $CO_2$ molecule. The results show that $CO_2$ molecule was significantly detected by pristine $Zn_{12}O_{12}$ nano-cage, therefore the nano-cage can be used as $CO_2$ storage. Also, more efficient binding could not be achieved by increasing the $CO_2$ concentration. For Physisorption configurations, HOMO-LUMO gap of the configurations has not changed, while slight changes have been observed in the chemisorption configurations.

  • Effects on tractive performance of design parameters of cage wheel as a traction aid to driving tires of tractor in wet paddy field were investigated experimentally. an experimental cage wheel was designed so that the design parameters such as wheel diameter, wheel width, lug pitch and lug angle could be varied during traction test, The traction test was conducted in two different types of wet paddy field ; shallow and deep harpan fields . Experimental results showed that tractive performance is affected by both soil conditions and the design parameters. A considerable improvement on the tractive performance was obtained by using a cage wheel with 45$^{\circ}$ lug angle in shallow hardpan and smaller lug pitch in deep hardpan. The diameter of cage wheel was mostly influential to the tractive performance both in shallow and deep hardpans.

  • The interest about noise and vibration which occurs in buildings is increasing by a living level elevation recently. Particularly, the vibration which occurs from the elevator cage of the building is possibility of damage to the users of the building continuously. So, the purpose of this study is to suggest of measuring results to the vibration that occurs from the elevator cage and propose the countermeasure of it.

  • The purpose of this single subject case study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a swedish knee cage worn to prevent genu recurvatum in right spastic hemiplegic with cerebral palsy. The subject was a 6-year-old female who had right side hemiparesis with genu recurvatum on affected side for the 18 month from January 1998 to June 1999. As a result, genu recurvatum of the patient was reduced the 7 degree after the putting on the swedish knee cage.

  • Objective : Oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) is a surgical technique that utilizes a large interbody cage to indirectly decompress neural elements. The position of the cage relative to the vertebral body could affect the degree of foraminal decompression. Previous studies determined the position of the cage using plain radiographs, with conflicting results regarding the influence of the position of the cage to the degree of neural foramen decompression. Because of the cage obliquity, computed tomography (CT) has better accuracy than plain radiograph for the measurement of the obliquely inserted cage. The objective of this study is to find the correlation between the position of the OLIF cage with the degree of indirect decompression of foraminal stenosis using CT and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Methods : We review imaging of 46 patients who underwent OLIF from L2-L5 for 68 levels. Segmental lordosis (SL) was measured in a plain radiograph. The positions of the cage were measured in CT. Spinal canal cross-sectional area (SCSA), and foraminal crosssectional area (FSCA) measurements using MRI were taken into consideration. Results : Patients' mean age was 69.7 years. SL increases 3.0±5.1 degrees. Significant increases in SCSA (33.3%), FCSA (43.7% on the left and 45.0% on the right foramen) were found (p<0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis shows putting the cage in the more posterior position correlated with more increase of FSCA and decreases SL correction. The position of the cage does not affect the degree of the central spinal canal decompression. Obliquity of the cage does not result in different degrees of foraminal decompression between right and left side neural foramen. Conclusion : Cage position near the posterior part of the vertebral body increases the decompression effect of the neural foramen while putting the cage in the more anterior position correlated with increases SL.

  • After 6 month of using, cracking of gas exhaustion bag cage of Type 304 stainless steel wire for Al melting reverberatory furnace was founded in welds. Analysis of crack causes in the wire were tested by electrochemical method, SEM images of structure and analysis of composition. Resulted from the test, it could be observed that cracks in the welds were a accelerated by formed polythionic acid on surface of bag cage in sensitized region of HAZ, tensile stress and using environment.

  • The cage of a tapered roller bearing keeps the gap between the rollers, which prevents friction, wear and suppresses heating. The material of the cage is changing from metal to plastic for lightening the weight. If the cage is severely deformed due to resonance, the roller may not be able to roll and even get off the cage. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of the cage is analyzed according to the cage material. Under the assumption that a train runs at the highest speed, frequency harmonics of that speed is calculated, and the comparative analysis is carried out in order to select the optimum thickness of the cage, which is easy to change among the cage design variables for avoiding the resonance.

Study on the UV illuminance to improve on attraction effect of fluorescent bait cage for pots (통발용 형광 미끼통의 유인 효과 개선을 위한 자외선 조도에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the entrapped number is investigated on the UV light with different illuminance to fluorescent bait cage for swimming crab in order to find the appropriate illuminance which has the best attraction effect of fluorescent bait cage for pots. In addition, preference to the light, arrival time and residence time at light area are compared and analyzed to fluorescent bait cage and non-fluorescent bait cage for American lobster at the UV light and ordinary light according to the illuminance condition. Pot with red non-fluorescent bait cage at the no lighting (<0.01lux), pot with blue fluorescent bait cage at the 20W UV lighting (0.16lux) and pot with blue fluorescent bait cage at the 30W UV lighting (0.22lux) were soaked for 6 hours and the entrapped number of swimming crab was examined. The mean entrapped number of swimming crab in pot with red non-fluorescent bait cage at the no lighting (<0.01lux) was 1.0, but the mean entrapped number of swimming crab in pot with blue fluorescent bait cages at the 20W UV lighting (0.16lux) and 30W UV lighting (0.22lux) were 1.4 and 0.4, respectively (P<0.05). The rate of preference to the blue fluorescent bait cage at the UV lighting shows 1.6-4.8 times higher than that of preference to the red non-fluorescent bait cage at the ordinary lighting. In addition, The rate of preference to the blue fluorescent bait cage at the UV lighting is higher when the illuminance of ordinary light is same as or is lower than that of UV light (P<0.05). However, the preference to the light depending on gender shows no significant difference (P>0.05). The arrival time to UV light area of lobster is shown as 1.2-2.4 times faster than that to ordinary light area. Generally, it is shown that arrival time to UV light area is faster than the arrival time to ordinary light area when the illuminance of ordinary light is the same as or lower than that of UV light (P<0.05). However, arrival time to the light area depending on gender shows no significant difference (P>0.05). The residence time at UV light area of lobster is 1.2-1.7 times longer than that at ordinary light area. The residence time depending on different illuminance of ordinary light and genders showed no significant difference (P>0.05).

Effect of Cage in Radiological Differences between Direct and Oblique Lateral Interbody Fusion Techniques

  • Objective : Few studies have reported direct comparative data of lumbar spine angles between direct lateral interbody fusion (DLIF) and oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF). The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical and radiological outcomes of DLIF and OLIF, and determine influential factors. Methods : The same surgeon performed DLIF from May 2011 to August 2014 (n=201) and OLIF from September 2014 to September 2016 (n=142). Radiological parameters, cage height, cage angle (CA), cage width (CW), and cage location were assessed. We checked the cage location as the distance (mm) from the anterior margin of the disc space to the anterior metallic indicator of the cage in lateral images. Results : There were significant differences in intervertebral foramen height (FH; $22.0{\pm}2.4$ vs. $21.0{\pm}2.1mm$, p<0.001) and sagittal disc angle (SDA; $8.7{\pm}3.3$ vs. $11.3{\pm}3.2^{\circ}$, p<0.001) between the DLIF and OLIF groups at 7 days postoperatively. CA ($9.6{\pm}3.0$ vs. $8.1{\pm}2.9^{\circ}$, p<0.001) and CW ($21.2{\pm}1.6$ vs. $19.2{\pm}1.9mm$, p<0.001) were significantly larger in the OLIF group compared to the DLIF group. The cage location of the OLIF group was significantly more anterior than the DLIF group ($6.7{\pm}3.0$ vs. $9.1{\pm}3.6mm$, p<0.001). Cage subsidence at 1 year postoperatively was significantly worse in the DLIF group compared to the OLIF group ($1.0{\pm}1.5$ vs. $0.4{\pm}1.1mm$, p=0.001). Cage location was significantly correlated with postoperative FH (${\beta}=0.273$, p<0.001) and postoperative SDA (${\beta}=-0.358$, p<0.001). CA was significantly correlated with postoperative FH (${\beta}=-0.139$, p=0.044) and postoperative SDA (${\beta}=0.236$, p=0.001). Cage location (${\beta}=0.293$, p<0.001) and CW (${\beta}=-0.225$, p<0.001) were significantly correlated with cage subsidence. Conclusion : The cage location, CA, and CW seem to be important factors which result in the different-radiological outcomes between DLIF and OLIF.
