As time goes by these cables make a insulation problems, and ask for a preventive diagnosis method. Cable has very high electrostatic capacity and insulation defects mainly caused by water-tree(WT). Dissipation factor test is very useful for detecting WT but it needs huge power supply. In this paper we presented a cable insulation diagnosis by dissipation factor using low frequency power supply.
Electric Power cable is the apparatus that receives electric power from the Korea Electric Power Corporation and supplies electric power to electric train and annex facilities of each railway station. With substantial ripple effect during power blackout accidents, such power blackout accidents must be coped with by discriminating the status of insulation deterioration of electric power cable in advance. Discrimination of insulation deterioration of the electric power cable is normally executed while the power is disconnected and it is very difficult to discover, at early stage, the insulation deterioration of the power cable in operational state since the duration of inspection is limited. This research aims to consider method of diagnosing the insulation deterioration of electric power cable in On-Line state rather than diagnosis in Off-Line state in order to secure reliability of power supply by reducing duration of power blackout (accidental blackout and blackout during works) and by seeking reduction in equipment and manpower used in diagnosis of deterioration through prevention of the accident itself prior to occurrence through early restoration of accident due to insulation deterioration of the electric power cable and assessment of performance of the cable under operation.

In order to prevent the failures of underground distribution power cables we need to measure insulation condition in the field. Until now we used DC high voltage as a power source for the cable diagnosis but it was not proper method to the XLPE insulation cables because DC high voltage can affect sound insulation and can't diagnose exactly insulation degradation. For these reasons we imported isothermal relaxation current measurement system called by KDA-1 from germany but it's reliability did not proved in our URD cables. DC voltage decay measurement system was developed by domestic company but they don't have field experience. In this paper we tried to prove reliability of these two systems in the field. Through the field diagnosis and Ac breakdown test the two systems showed similar results.
Diagnosis of cable insulation degradation has important meaning from a viewpoint of reliability enhancement of CV cable systems. So, we diagnosed 3.3kV & 6.6kV CV distribution cable on live-line which is judged to a most poor installation condition because they have been used in water condition after installation at the Yeochon chemical complex. The paper describes the analysis of the measured data, the problems at diagnosis, and the items which are considered at the development of diagnosis technology and equipment hearafter.

The partial discharge has been blown as the chief breakdown of power equipments. The analysis and the recognition is much difficult because the partial discharge signal is very small and has complex aging pattern. Recently, insulation aging diagnosis based on pattern of phase(Ф), partial discharge magnitude(q), number(n) has been very important. Owing to depreciate the reappearance of aging progress at the electrical tree pattern and to be difficult to analyze visually, the study on partial discharge pattern is suggested to normalizing analysis method of partial discharge signals. This parer is purposed on prediction of life-time measurement of cv-cable, on decision of risk degree with normalization and real-time measurement of partial discharge signals for aging diagnosis of cv-cable. As normalizing the aging signals of electrical tree in cv-cable, it is able to confirm risk degree of insulation material with the distribution of Ф-q-n and recognize the process of aging pattern using neural network.

This paper presents few case studies of state diagnosis of XLPE cables using very low frequency techniques. The power cables of 22.9kV which have installation fault were assessed using VLF technique in addition to other techniques like insulation resistance and DC voltage withstand test. From the experimental results, The dielectric loss($tan{\delta}$) values of degradation of the cable(joint, knife, needle) at $U_0$ were 5.839, 5.526 and 6.251, respectively and all values were "further study advised". VLF PD measurement was also found defective portion. These method was effective in defect to fault in the degradation of the cable. However, the breakdown did not occur in the degradation of the cable because of properties of XLPE insulation. Few case studies of using VLF $tan{\delta}$ diagnosis for fault are measured and analyzed. The $tan{\delta}$ values at $U_0$ were "further study advised" or "action required".

There has been a gradual increase in the demand for the electric power in Korea. In order to meet the demand, power station should have technical functions with increased effectiveness. When accident happens in electric machinery at power stations, huge amount of economic losses and mulfunction of equipments occur. One of the accidents is a deteriorated cables operating power stations. In order to prevent cable accident in advance, we should monitor the insulation status of the cable. Cable accidents are resulting from the junctions. We have developed and installed a device in order to identify the status of junction part of power cable at Korea Western Power Co., Ltd.. We performed an accurate diagnosis for the stable utilization of junctions where the accidents occurs most frequently, and to increase the reliability. In this paper, we present the concepts of our device and the method of monitoring diagnosis for the stable use of junctions at cables predicting the life time of cables by analyzing the data obtained by the device. We also present the hardware aspect of the device we have developed.

In this work, the correlation between the PD Patterns and the electrical tree propagation has been investigated by use of the specimen removed from the insulation of the real 154 kV XLPE underground power cables. As a result, it could be deduced that the PD pattern regarding electrical trees depends on their type which could be classified into three different distinct groups such as branch-bush mixed. Considering the results of our investigation, if the partial discharge magnitude is only considered for the diagnosis of the cable system, it is possible to draw a wrong decision. Therefore, it is possible to propose that the time characteristics of PD pattern should be taken into account for the diagnosis of the cable system in addition to the conventional $\Phi$-q-n characteristics.
We used the eddy current sensor for a 22.9kV distribution power line insulation cable diagnosis. The insulation cable which is used in the 22.9kV distribution power line is having element wire from 6 to 18. Consequently, currently to ECT applications it has a limit in the distribution power line. We about under producing to apply in pick-up coil forms and the differential total coil form where becomes sum of zero in order to have. From measurement result, partial broken cable was confirmed 500 mV~980 mV changes from normal state.
