  • LTCC(low temperature co-fired ceramics)용 glass/ceramic 복합체를 제조하기 위해 4 종류의 borosilicate계 glass를 선정하고 filler로 $Al_2O_3$ ceramics를 filler 사용하여 30~50 vol% glass frit에 따른 소결 및 유전 특성에 대하여 조사하였다. Glass frit은 $SiO_2$$B_2O_3$ 함량비를 고정한 후 R(CaO, BaO, ZnO, $Bi_2O_3$)에 따라 유리 연화온도(Ts)와 함량이 소결에 미치는 영향 및 유전 특성 변화를 고찰한 결과, CaO-$B_2O_3-SiO_2$ glass의 경우 다량의 2 차상이 형성되었고, 이에 $900^{\circ}C$ 이하에서 완전 소결이 이루어지지 않았으며, BaO-$B_2O_3-SiO_2$ glass는 celsian($BaAl_2Si_2O_8$) 결정이 형성되면서 소결성의 저하를 갖고 왔으며, ZnO-$B_2O_3-SiO_2$ glass는 소결이 진행됨에 따라 주상이 $Al_2O_3$에서 gahnite($ZnAl_2O_4$) 결정이 형성되면서 품질계수가 크게 증가하였으며, $Bi_2O_3-B_2O_3-SiO_2$ glass는 45 vol%일 때 $900^{\circ}C$에서부터 일정한 선수축율 특성을 나타내었지만, 다량의 액상으로 인하여 유전 특성의 저하를 나타내었다.

  • In order to improve the chemical durability of glass in the $Na_2O$-CaO-$SiO_2$ system, it was investigated in the effect of $B_2O_3$ and ZnO addition and changing amount of each composition, $Na_2O$, $Al_2O_3$, $Li_2O$.   • The objective of this study is to prepare lead-free thick film resistor (TFR) paste compatible with AlN substrate for hybrid microelectronics. For this purpose, CaO-ZnO-$B_2O_3-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ glass system was chosen as a sintering aid of $RuO_2$. The effects of the weight ratio of CaO to ZnO in glass composition, the glass content and the sintering temperature on the electrical properties of TFR were investigated. $RuO_2$ as a conductive and glass powder were dispersed in an organic binder to obtain printable paste and then thick-film was formed by screen printing, followed by sintering at the range between $750^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$ for 10 min with a heating rate of $50^{\circ}C$/min in an ambient atmosphere. The addition of ZnO to glass composition and sintering at higher temperature resulted in increasing sheet resistance and decreasing temperature coefficient of resistance. Using $RuO_2$-based resistor paste containing 40 wt%glass of CaO-20.5%ZnO-25%$B_2O_3$-7%$Al_2O_3$-15%$SiO_2$ composition, it is possible to produce thick film resistor on AlN substrate with sheet resistance of $10.6\Omega/\spuare$ and the temperature coefficient of resistance of 702ppm/$^{\circ}C$ after sintering at $850^{\circ}C$.

  • In this study, the glass frit of $PbO-TiO-2-SiO_2-BaO-ZnO-Al_2O-3-CaO-B_2O_3-Bi_2O_3-MgO$ system was manufactured. The glass was melted at $1,400{\circ}C$, quenched and attrition-milled. The glass frit powder was pressed and fired for 2h at the range of $750~1,000{\circ}C$. The crystallization of glass frit began at about $750{\circ}$ and at low temperature, the main crystal phases were hexagonal celsian($BaAl_2Si_2O_8$) and alumina. As the firing temperature increased, the crystal phases of monoclinic celsian, zinc aluminate, zinc silicate, calcium titanium silicate and titania appeared. And the increase of firing temperature led to transformation of hexagonal celsian to monoclinic. The only glass frit containing 15wt% PbO had the crystal phase of solid solution of $PbTiO_3-CaTiO_3$. At the frequency of 1 MHz, the dielectric constant of glass frit crystallized was in the range of 11~16 and the dielectric loss less than 0.020. But the glass frit containing 15wt% PbO had the dielectric constant of 17~26 and loss of 0.010~0.015 because of crystal phase of solid solution of $PbTiO_3-CaTiO_3$.

  • The effects of $B_2O_3-SiO_2-R(R;CaO,\;BaO,\;ZnO,\;Bi_2O_3)$ borosilicate glass system on the sintering behavior and microwave dielectric properties of ceramic/glass composites were investigated as functions of modifier, glass addition ($30{\sim}50\;vol%$) and sintering temperature ($500{\sim}900^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs). The addition of 50 and 45 vol% glass ensured successful sintering below $900^{\circ}C$. Sintering characteristics of the composites were well described in terms of modifier. Borosilicate glass enhanced the reaction with $Al_{2}O_{3}$ to form pores, second phases and liquid phases, which was responsible to component of modifier. Dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}_{r},\;Q{\times}f_{o}$) and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (${\tau}_{f}$) of the composite with 50 and 45 vol% glass contents($B_{2}O_{3}:SiO_{2}:R=25:10:65$) demonstrated A-CaBS(7.8, 2,560 GHz, -81ppm/$^{\circ}C$), A-BaBs(5.8, 3.130 GHz, -64 ppm/$^{\circ}C$), A-ZnBS(5.7, 17,800 GHz, -21 ppm/$^{\circ}C$), A-BiBs(45 vol% glass in total)(8.3, 2,700 GHz, -45 ppm/$^{\circ}C$) which is applicable to substrate requiring an low dielectric properties.

Thermal Expansion and Dielectric Properties of CaO-ZnO-B2O3-SiO2 Glass-Added Al2O3 Composites for LTCC Applications

  • Varying quantities of a high-thermal-expansion glass, 50CaO-20ZnO-$20B_2O_3-10SiO_2$ (CZBS), were added to alumina and sintered at $875^{\circ}C$ for 2 h for low temperature co-firing ceramic (LTCC) applications. As the amount of glass addition increased from 40 wt% to 70 wt%, the apparent density of the sintered product increased from 88.8% to 91.5%, which was also qualitatively confirmed by microstructural observation. When the glass addition was very high, e.g., 70 wt%, an apparent formation of secondary phases such as $CaZn_2AlZnSiAlO_7$, $Ca_2Al(AlSi)O_7$, $Ca_2Al_2SiO_7$, $Ca_2ZnSi_2O_7$ and ZnO, was observed. Both the dielectric constant and the coefficient of thermal expansion increased with the glass addition, which was qualitatively consistent with the analytical models, while the experimental values were lower than the predicted ones due to the presence of pores and secondary phases.

High Frequency Dielectric Properties of $CaF_2$ filled Glass-Composites ($CaF_2$가 Filler로 첨가된 유리복합체의 고주파 유전특성)

  • Effects of $CaF_2$ addition as a filler on the high frequency dielectric properties and sintering of CaO-$Al_2O_3-SiO_2-B_2O_3$(CASB) and ZnO-MgO-$B_2O_3-SiO_2$(ZMBS) glass composites were investigated. The optimal glass composition in the CASB system was 33.0CaO-$17.0Al_2O_3-35.0SiO_2-15.0B_O_3$(in wt%). The corresponding dielectric properties were k=8.1 and $Q{\times}fo$=1,200GHz. The sintering temperature was $800{\mu}m$. In case of 2MBS system, 25.0ZnO-25.0MgO-20.0$B_2O_3-30.0SiO_2$(in wt%) glass showed k=6.8 and $Q{\times}fo$=5,200GHz when it was sintered at $750^{\circ}C$. The maximum amount of $CaF_2$ in the CASB and 2MBS glass system without any detrimental effect on the sintering was 25.0 v/o and 15.0 v/o, respectively. The addition of $CaF_2$ in the glass systems improved the high frequency dielectric properties. In case of CASB+$CaF_2$ composite, k was 7.1 and $Q{\times}fo$ was 2,300GHz. And in case of 2MBS+$CaF_2$ composite, k was 5.9 and $Q{\times}fo$ was 8,100GHz. $CaF_2$ addition also reduced sintering temperature. Effects of $CaF_2$ on the dielectric and sintering properties was analyzed in terms of viscosity and crystallization behavior changes due to the interaction between $CaF_2$ and the glass systems.

  • Abstract: The effect of lead free glass frit compositions on the properties of thick film conductor and resistor pastes were investigated. Two types lead free frits, HBF-A(without $Bi_2O_3$) and HBF-B(with $Bi_2O_3$) were made from $SiO_2$, $B_2O_3$, $Al_2O_3$, CaO, MgO, $Na_2O$, $K_2O$, ZnO, MnO, $ZrO_2$, $Bi_2O_3$. And Ag based conductor pastes and $RuO_2$ based resistor paste were prepared by mixed with these frits and functional phase(Ag and $RuO_2$), and organic vehicle. The properties of thick film conductor and resistor sintered at $850^{\circ}C$ were studied after printing on $Al_2O_3$ substrate. The morphology of the sintered films surface were SEM and EDS were carried out to analysis the chemical composition on resistor surface and state of Ru atom in frit matrix.

Properties of Multilayer Glass-Ceramic Dielectrics (다층 글라스세라믹 유전체의 결정화특성에 관한 연구)

  • Crystallizable glasses with precipitation of celsian were prepared for the purpose of insulating dielectric layers for the devices such as integrated circuit substrates. Crystallization behavior of these glasses were studied by DTA, SEM, XRD analysis and by the measurement of dielectric properties. The base composition of the glass-ceramic consists in weight percent of 30% SiO2, 10% Al2O3, 26% BaO, 10% CaO, 10% ZnO, 8%TiO2 and 6% B2O3. 2-6 wt% Y2O3 were selected as the nucleating agent to promote monoclinic celsian formation. As a result, in barium-rich glasses containing 4~6wt% Y2O3 , monoclinic celsian was developed as major crystalline phase in the temperature range of 850~90$0^{\circ}C$. Also, the dielectric constant and quality factor of these glass-ceramics were about 9 and more than 1000, respectively.
