A Study on the Structural Properties of $Al_2O_3$-doped (Ba,Sr,Ca)$TiO_3$ ceramics ($Al_2O_3$가 첨가된 (Ba,Sr,Ca)$TiO_3$계 세라믹의 구조적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • $(Ba_{0.6-x}Sr_{0.4}Ca_x)TiO_3+yAl_2O_3$ wt% (x=0.10, 0.15, 0.20, y=0.5 $\sim$ 3.0) specimens were fabricated by the mixed-oxide method and then the structural properties as a function of the composition ratio and $Al_2O_3$ contents were studied. All BSCT specimens showed dense and homogeneous structure without the presence of the seconds phase. The sintered density was decreased with increase ad $Al_2O_3$ content. The Curie temperature and dielectric constant at room temperature decreased with increasing $Al_2O_3$ content. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the doped-0.5 wt% $Al_2O_3$ BSCT(50/40/10) specimen were about 3131 and 0.932% at 1KHz, respectively.

A Study on the Effective Utilization of Intensifying Screens in the Region of Diagnostic Radiology (진단방사선 영역에서 증감지의 유효이용에 관한 연구)

  • In order to obtain effective utilization of intensifying screens[$CaWO_4(W),\;Gd_2O_2S:Tb(Gd)$, BaFCl : Eu(Ba)] over the diagnostic radiology range, we calculated absorption coefficient (${\mu}$), absorption efficiency (${\eta}_{\alpha}$) and absorbed energy ratio(R) and analyzed effects of these properties on X-ray image, finally concluded as below. Regardless of presence of contrast media, absorption coefficient of Gd the highest and decreased with increase of thickness and kVp. Absorption efficiency related with absorbance of fluorescent materials showed the highest value for the Gd, and discontinuous points exhibited at around $80{\sim}90\;kVp$ and $90{\sim}100kVp$ for the Ba and the Gd, respectively. Furthermore, the absorbed energy ratio(R) correspond to contrast of reflection showed the largest value for the W in the absence of contrast media, and for the Gd in the case of the existence of it, and the ratio was decreased with increasing of incident energy. Owing to these properties, we assumed that it was more preferable to use rare earth type intensifying screen for the radiography using in the C.M.(I, Ba), while in the general radiography, $CaWO_4$ intensifying screen was applicable.

  • To study bone resorption mechanism, effect of LPS on the $^{45}Ca$ release from fetal rat ulnae and radii, and effects of carbonic anhydrase inhibitors on the LPS-induced bone resorption in organ culture were studied. Ulnae and radii were removed from 19 day old fetal rats, prelabelled by subcutaneous injection of $200{\mu}Ci\;^{45}CaCl_2$ into their mother on the 17th day of gestation. Radioactivities of $^{45}Ca$ released into media were determined after 24, 48 and 72 hours. Effects of LPS and carbonic anhydrase inhibitors were observed by the ratio of $\%$ release of $^{45}Ca$ between paired control and experimental group. The observed results were as follows : 1. $LPS(1{\mu}g/ml)$ supplemented in media for 72hours increased the $^{45}Ca$ release significantly after 48 and 72 hours of culture and $LPS(10{\mu}g/m1)$ increased the $^{45}Ca$ release significantly after 72 hours of culture. 2. LPS-induced $^{45}Ca$ release was not inhibited significantly by 1mM sulfanilamide but inhibited significantly by 10mM sulfanilamide after 48 and 72 hours of culture. 3. LPS-induced $^{45}Ca$ release was not inhibited significantly by 0.1mM dichlorphenamide but inhibited significantly by 1mM dichlorphenamide after 48 and 72 hours of culture. 4. LPS-induced $^{45}Ca$ release was not inhibited significantly by 1mM acetazolamide but inhibited sighificantly by 5mM acetazolamide after 72 hours of culture.

Effects of Al-Surplus and Ca-Deficiency on Content and Rhythm of ATP in Plant Leaves (식물엽의 ATP함량과 그 주기에 미치는 Al과잉 및 Ca결핍의 영향)

  • Kidneybean(Phaseolus vlgaris L.) and buckwheat(Fagopyrum esculentum M$\"{O}$nch) seedlings cultured with Hoagland solution to the height of 7 to 10cm in the earthern pot containing sand were used for experimental plants. One group of the plants was irrigated with Hoagland solution composed of various Al concentrations of 0 to 1,000 ppm containing 50ppm Ca, and the other group was irrigated with Hoagland solution composed of various Ca concentrations of 0 to 1,000ppm containing 100ppm Al for a month during June and July. By Al-surplus over 100ppm, the margins of backwheat leaves were curied down and turned into yellow-brown necrosis simialr to Ca-deficiency, and the old kidney bean leaves showed marginal and veinal chlorosis in addition to the early shedding of leaves. With Al-surplus of 100ppm the content of chlorophyll a and b in both plants was decreased by 30~40%. The ratio 3/1 of chlorophyll a/b was not altered by Al-surplus and Ca-deficienty at an early stage, but it was affected markedly at a final stage of growth. Leaf respiration with 100ppm Al containing 50pm Ca was slightly affected in buckwheat, but decreased by 20% in kidneybean. With Al-surplus of 100ppm the ATP content was decreased by 32% in the kidneybean leaves and by 80% in buckwheat leaves, whereas with Ca-deficiency it was decreased by 72% in kidneybean and by 90% in buckwheat. The rhythm of ATP level showed self-relience without being affected by light or temperature under the green house condition although by Al-s rplus and Ca-deficiency the ATP level of the rhythm was lower than that of control.trol.

Bioavailability and Feed Value of Starfish with Various Treatments (처리방법에 따른 불가사리의 이용율 및 사료적 가치)

  • To evaluate the feed value of starfish, antimicrobial effects of its extract, nutrients contents, concentration of amino acids and its bioavailability were tested. Steaming and ether processes were applied to obtain the extract from starfish for antimicrobial effects examination. The starfish was dried at $60^{\circ}C$ for 3 days before grinding for processing and fermentation. Ground starfish(GS), extruded starfish(ES), fermented starfish(EFS) were added with enzyme and without enzyme(Non enzyme fermented starfish : NEFS). Then the nutrient composition and bioavailability of those were analyzed. The extract from starfish showed no inhibition of the growth of lactobacillus and pathogenic bacteria. Protein content showed significantly higher 62.86% and 52.82%, respectively in EFS and NEFS than GS and EGS(p<0.05). The Ca content of GS, EGS, EFS and NEFS was 17.26%, 18.26%, 5.37% and 8.55%, respectively. It was low in EFS and NEFS due to measure the Ca content after fermentation. Total amino acid was 17.17 mg/g, 20.28 mg/g, 36.30 mg/g and 29.96 mg/g in GS, EGS, EFS and NEFS, respectively. The ratio of total amino acid to protein tended to show the similar tendency as total amino acid. Both total amino acid and its ratio to protein were increased by the fermentation. Bioavailability of the protein and Ca showed more 80% in EFS and NEFS. The nutrients availability of EFS were significantly higher in laying hens than other treatments. The results of these experiments indicate that starfish would be applied as a feed ingredients if it was properly treated.

  • This pot experiment was conducted to find out the optimal fertilization ratio of the cations(K: Ca: Mg) in various soil conditions. Soil samples were collected from uncultivated mountains and hills where development for grass lands is under consideration. The optimum ratios were computed by the Homes systematic variation technique. The results were summarized as follows : 1. The optimum fertilization ratios of the cations (K : Ca : Mg) for the high yields of grass-clover mixed sward at various areas were obtained (Table 4) 2. The relatively high optimum fertilization ratios of K in Daegu and Taegwalryong, Ca in Unbong, and Mg in Cheju district gave the high yields of clover in mixed sward. They were positively related to the low contents of the above cations in the soils or the relatively low content ratio comparing with other cations. 3. The yields of clover in mixed sward were seriously affected by the changes in both the fertilization ratio and total concentration of cations comparing to those of the grass yields. As a consequence, total yields, quality, and botanical composition of the mixed sward were also affected. 4. The antagonis among the cations K, Ca, and Mg was known from the point of mineral contents of grass and clover. 5. The equivalent ratio K/(Ca+Mg) or grass was greatly increased by the range of 2.4 and 3.3 in the K-group treatment, which was higher than the critical level 2.2 of grass tetany, otherwise that. of clover by the range of 0.9 and 1.2. Therfore, it may be concluded that if the botanical composition of grass/legume sward is optimum, the incidence of grass tetany can be eliminated.

Removal Characteristics of $SO_2$ in the Coal Combustion Flue Gas Treatment Convergence System (석탄화력발전소 현장의 석탄연소 배가스 고도처리용 건식 분류층 반응 실증장치에서의 $SO_2$ 제거성능 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility of dry-type desulfurization process for actual application to coal-fired power plant. We used actual exhaust gas from Facility Y, Plant #2 to fabricate a demo-scale testing device to attempt to improve the efficiency of desulfurization. A spout-bed circulating dry scrubber convergence system connecting turbo reactor with bag filter was devised, then analyzed for performance characteristics of $SO_2$ removal for Ca/S mole ratio, superficial gas velocity, and ammonia injection, and for secondary reaction characteristics of the non-reactive sorbent at the bag filter. As a result, the installation of spout-bed circulating dry scrubber convergence system showed better economy and efficiency for removing sulfur than the existing wet/semidry-type desulfurization process. In addition, the best efficiency for desulfurization occurred when connected to the bag filter, with differential pressure maintained at 150 $mmH_2O$.

Astudy of internal defects and their effects in $CaF_2$ single crystals (형석단결정의 내부결함 및 그 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The internal defects in $(CaF_2)$ single crystal were characterized by the observation of optical microscopy, the element analysis and the transmittance analysis. In bubble and negative crystal which are composed to crystal plane of (100) and (111), the spread negative crystal in $(CaF_2)$ crystal gave an effect of low transmittance. The precipitates formed in bubble as internal cavities were analyzed by using WDX. Violet colored-crystal had higher a dislocation density than non-colored crystal, and the atomic ratio between Ca and F changed by poor F ion. In this result, we could determine indirectly that violet color was occurred by poor F ion.

Assessment of NH4+ and Ca2+ on Acidity Neutralization of Rainwater in Ansung Area (안성지역 강우의 산성도 중화에 미치는 NH4+ 및 Ca2+ 영향 평가)

  • This study was carried out to assess the neutralization ability of $NH_4{^+}$ and $Ca^{2+}$ on the acidity of rainwater in Korea. The rainwater was collected in Ansung area for six months from May to October in 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, and 1998, respectively. Rainwater were analyzed for chemical composition and their theoretical pH values were calculated. As for the results, the distribution rates of rain at the pH 5.0~5.6 range were high. The equivalent ratio of $SO_4{^2-}/NO_3{^-}$ was decreased since 1994. Theoretical acidity which was calculated by-$log([H^+]+[NH_4{^+}]+[Ca^{2+}])$ was 5.0~12.6 times higher than measured acidity in Ansung area each monitoring year. The monthly difference between measured pH and theoretical pH was lower in July and August than any other month. $NH_4{^+}$ contributed more to the neutralization of rainwater acidity than $Ca^{2+}$. And the neutralization ratio of rainwater acidity by these two ions decreased during the years from 91.8% in 1993 to 88.7% in 1998.

LOW MASS RATIO CONTACT BINARY V410 Aur AND V776 Cas-II (질량비가 작은 접촉쌍성 V410 Aur과 V776 Cas-II)

  • New BVR CCD light curves of the low mass ratio contact binaries, V410 Aur and V776 Cas, were observed with the 61 cm reflector and a 2K CCD camera at the Sobaeksan Astronomical Observatory. The absolute dimensions of the low mass ratio contact binaries, V410 Aur and V776 Cas, were obtained using WD program from the published spectroscopic and newly observed photometric data. The evolutionary status of this type of binary system including V410 Aur and V776 Cas has been considered. We reconfirmed that the primary stars of the low mass contact binary system were located on the TAMS and secondary stars were located under the ZAMS in H-R diagram.
