Genetic Analysis of Direct and Maternal Effects for Calf Market and Carcass Weights in Japanese Black Cattle

  • To evaluate direct and maternal effects on calf market weight (CMW) and carcass weight (CW) in Japanese Black cattle under an animal model, genetic parameters were estimated using 51,320 records of CMW and 11,944 records of CW, respectively. Direct and maternal heritabilities, and direct-maternal genetic correlation were estimated to be 0.22, 0.06 and 0.27 for CMW, and 0.23, 0.12 and -0.40 for CW, respectively. Correlation coefficient between maternal breeding values for CMW and CW was 0.521 for 157 sires appeared in both CMW and CW data sets. These results suggest that the maternal genetic effect on pre-weaning growth carries over to carcass weight. Maternal breeding values for both calf market weight and carcass weight could be used as the indicator traits of maternal ability in Japanese Black cattle.

  • A wavelength stabilized high power CW DFB LD module was designed and fabricated for use in externally modulated, Dense Wavelength Division Multiplex (DWDM) systems. A simple, compact wavelength monitoring technology using a thin solid Etalon and PD array assembly was developed for a low cost wavelength stabilized DFB LD module. Also, the excellent module have high power characteristic of 13.5 mW in CW 100 mA current injection with high optical coupling coefficient over 43%. r 43%.

  • IPTV 시스템에서 서비스 제공자는 제한수신시스템(CAS, Conditional Access System)을 통해 미디어 콘텐츠의 안전한 전송을 제공한다. Scramble Function의 Pseudo-random sequence 생성 초기화 단계에서 사용하는 CW(Control Word)를 허가된 사용자만 획득하게 함으로써 데이터를 보호한다. 적합한 사용자 측에서는 스마트카드를 통해 획득한 CW를 셋톱박스에 전송하고, 셋톱박스는 CW를 이용해 암호화된 데이터로부터 원본의 미디어 콘텐츠를 획득한다. 이 때, CW가 그대로 셋톱박스에게 전송되기 때문에 비인가된 사용자가 공격을 통해 CW를 획득할 수 있어서 암호화된 전송이 요구된다. 이본 논문에서는 스마트카드와 셋톱박스 사이의 암호화 통신을 위해 기존의 방법보다 경량화된 상호인증 및 키 동의 프로토콜을 제안한다.

Isolation and Characteristics of Denitrifying Pseudomonas CW4 (탈질균 Pseudomonas CW4의 분리 및 특성)

  • Ten denitrifying bacteria, which were identified as Pseudomonas sp., were isolated from Winogradsky columns. The most effective denitrifying bacterium was named as Pseudomonas CW4, which was cultivated at anoxic condition. The optimal growth temperature and pH were 3$0^{\circ}C$ and 6-8, respectively. The effect of carbon concentration and agitator speed on the rate of denitrification were very low. 100% of NO$_3$-N was removed after 15 hrs when initial concentration of NO$_3$-N was 142.5 mg/L.

오염방지 시설을 이용한 지하수 환경성 복원 연구

  • 질산성질소 및 탁도로 오염된 지하수공에 대하여 환경성 복원을 위한 오염방지 시설을 시범 설치하였다. 지하수공에 대한 오염 정도를 조사한 결과 PS-1, CW-1, 그리고 CW-2 공이 질산성질소로 오염되어 먹는물 수질기준을 초과하였고, CW-3 공은 탁도가 먹는물 수질기준을 초과하였다. 오염원은 지하수공 개발시 수량 확보를 위하여 그라우팅을 제대로 하지 않은 불량시공으로 인한 오염된 지표수의 유입으로 기인되었다. 금번 연구는 오염된 지하수의 환경성 복원을 위한 것으로, 오염원과 지하수를 격리시켜 오염물질의 지하수 내 유입을 방지할 수 있도록 패커 그라우팅을 완벽하게 다시 실시하였으며, 오염방지시설을 설치하였다. 이 연구를 위하여 먼저 대수층의 분포 및 특성팍악, 지하수공내 지표수의 유입구간 규명, 지하수 오염원, 오염실태, 오염경로 등을 파악하였다 오염방지시설을 설치한 후, 설치 전,후의 질산성질소와 탁도의 함량을 비교하기 위하여 수질 분석을 실시하였다. PS-1의 경우, 오염방지시설 설치전의 질산성질소 함량은 16.1 mg/L 이었으나, 설치후에는 8.1 mg/L, 7.9 mg/L로써 설치전에 비하여 51% 감소되었으며, CW-1은 10.3 mg/L에서 6.3mg/L으로 39%, 그리고 CW-2는 14.9 mg/L에서 9.0 mg/L 으로 40% 감소되었다. CW-3 공의 탁도는 157 NTU에서 0.97 NTU로 완벽하게 복원되었다.

  • A pre-amplified semiconductor optical amplifier-Mach-Zehnder interferometer(SOA-MZI) wavelength converter (WC) using a continuous wave-holding beam(CW-HB) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated at 10Gb/s. The proposed scheme achieves not only enhancement of input power dynamic range(IPDR) to over 20dB but also higher Q parameter of about 2 to 3 by no output signal distortion and higher extinction ratio(ER) of about 2dB to 5dB by low noise figure (NF), compared with the bias current control method.

Comparison of In Vivo Nephrotoxicity in the Rabbit by a Pyrrolidinyl-Thio Carbapenem CW-270031

  • CW-270031 is a novel synthesized carbapenem antibiotic with a broad antimicrobial activity. Carbapenem antibiotics are well known for their nephrotoxicity. In this study, we evaluated the nephrotoxicity potential of this compound in rabbits, which are known for being more sensitive than other animals to renal insult. CW-270031 was administered to NZW male rabbits via an ear vein (200 mg/kg, single injection). Blood samples were collected on 2, 3, and 4 days after treatment. Urea nitrogen and creatinine in plasma were quantified. Four days after the treatment, all animals were autopsied and histopathological examinations were performed on their kidneys, revealing that cephaloridine and imipenem were highly nephrotoxic, and cefazolin had mild renal toxicity, whereas CW-270031 as well as meropenem and tienam had no toxicity to the kidney. The present findings suggest that CW-270031 is a potential carbapenem antibiotic with no nephrotoxicity.

  • When a FM-CW radar is used to measure the target distance, the nonlinearity relationship between the VCO control voltage and the output frequency makes an adverse effect on the measurement accuracy. Recently, many nonlinearity correction schemes using signal processing techniques and dedicated hardwares have been studied. This paper presents a signal processing technique to compensate for the VCO nonlinearity using a reference signal. To demonstrate the validity of the presented technique, several experiments were conducted and the results show reduction of the distortion in the range profile and the resolution improvement.

  • $Nd:YVO_4$ 연속발진 레이저(CW laser:Continuous wave laser)로 제작한 다결정 실리콘 박막의 이온도핑 효과를 조사하였다. PECVD로 증착한 비정질 실리콘 박막을 CW 레이저를 조사하여 결정화한 후 $B_2H_6$ 플라즈마 이온 도즈량을 변화시켜 이온 도핑을 하고 급속열처리 방법과 퍼니스 어닐링 방법으로 도펀트 활성화를 하였다. 이온 도핑된 CW 다결정 실리콘 박막의 이온 도즈량에 따른 판저항 변화를 비교하고, 급속열처리(RTA: Rapid Thermal Annealing)와 퍼니스 어닐링(FA: Furnace Annealing) 전후의 결정성 변화를 라만 스펙트럼(Raman spectrum) 을 통하여 분석하였다. 이온 도즈량이 증가함에 따라 판저항은 감소하고, 어닐링 후 이온 도핑에 의해 손상된 박막이 복원됨을 확인 할 수 있다.

Origin and Mixing Ratio of Water Masses in the East China Sea, the South Sea and the Korea Strait using Radium Isotopes and Salinity (라듐 동위원소와 염분을 이용한 동중국해, 남해 및 대한해협 해수의 기원가 혼합비율 추정)

  • In order to study origin and mixing ratio of surface water masses in the East China Sea (ECS), the South Sea of Korea and the Korea Strait, we use three end-member mixing equation. We use $^{228}$Ra/$^{226}$Ra activity ratio and salinity as two conservative tracer and the Changjiang Water (CW), the Yellow Sea Water (YSW), and the Kuroshio Water (KW) as three end members, Results show that ECS surface water includes all the three end member water, in the order of KW (50-90%), YSW (20-40%) and CW (0-20%) in August 1997. Also, the amount of CW can be approximately estimated by salinity alone. Surface water of the South Sea and the Korea Strait includes very small or almost no CW (below 2% except station 9) in May 1998. Thus in the Korea Strait mixing ratio could be estimated by $^{228}$Ra/$^{226}$Ra activity ratio tracer alone between two end-members, KW and YSW. However, in order to Set more accurate results or in case of rainy season, a mixing equation based on two tracers and three end-members is required.
