  • This paper introduces a ring hybrid coupler using shunt capacitors, high impedance lines and CRLH-TLs (Composite Right/Left-Handed Transmission Lines) with size reduction and bandwidth enhancement. The reduced method of line length uses to combine a short length high impedance line and shunt capacitors. Also, there is combined CRLH meta-material so as to obtain wide bandwidth of transmission line using nonlinear phase characteristic of CRLH-TL that consists of series capacitors and shunt inductors. The implemented ring hybrid coupler shows a novel design with compact size that is smaller than 10% and bandwidth is larger than 60% of conventional ring hybrid coupler.

  • In this paper, a novel voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) using the harmonic control circuit based on the composite right/left-handed (CRLH) transmission lines (TLs) is presented to reduce the phase noise without the reduction of the frequency tuning range and miniaturize the circuit size. The phase noise is reduced by the novel harmonic control circuit having the short impedances for the second- and third-harmonic components. The proposed harmonic control circuit is designed by using the CRLH TLs with the dual-band characteristic by the frequency offset and phase slope of the CRLH TLs. The high-Q resonator has been used to reduce the phase noise, but has the problem of the frequency tuning range reduction. However, the frequency tuning range of the proposed VCO has not been reduced because the phase noise has been reduced without the high-Q resonator. The miniaturization of the circuit size is achieved by using the CRLH TLs instead of the conventional right-handed (RH) TLs. The phase noise of VCO is -119.17 ~ -117.50 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz in the tuning range of 5.731 ~ 5.938 GHz.

  • The conventionally classified waves are reclassified in this paper, including the waves associated with metamaterial (MTM) transmission lines. Various types of guided waves in periodic structures are analyzed for 1D Composite Right/Left Handed (CRLH) transmission lines (TL). In addition, dispersion diagrams for 1D CRLH, RH, and LH TLs are presented in terms of radiation conditions. We have refined the design equations of the conventional 1D CRLH TL and proposed a condition to realize the desired phase shift and its slope per unit cell. This condition has been applied to the conventional Wilkinson power divider and realized into MTM added $90^{\circ}$ hybrid coupler. Based on the 10 dB return loss and the $90{\pm}10^{\circ}$ phase shift, the bandwidths of the MTM added $90^{\circ}$ hybrid coupler are 82.25% and 103.5% against the conventional 23% and 52.5%, respectively.

  • In this paper, a highly efficiency power amplifier is presented for multi-band antenna system. The class F power amplifier operating in dual-band designed with one LDMOSFET. An operating frequency of power amplifier is 900 MHz and 2.14 GHz respectively Matching networks and harmonic control circuits of amplifier are designed by using the unit cell of composite right/left-handed(CRLH) transmission line(TL) realized with lumped elements. The CRLH TL can lead to metamaterial transmission line with the dual-band holing capability. The dual-band operation of the CRLH TL is achieved by the frequency offset and the nonlinear phase slope of the CRLH TL for the matching network of the power amplifier. Because the control of all harmonic components for high efficiency is very difficult, we have controled only the second- and third-harmonics to obtain the high efficiency with the CRLH TL. Also, the proposed power amplifier has been realized by using the harmonic control circuit for not only the output matching network, but also the input matching network for better efficiency.

  • This raper proposes a dual-bandstop filter, which is based on a metamaterial transmission line using the composite right/left-handed (CRLH) and dual composite right/left-handed (D-CRLH) structures. The metamaterial structure is used for miniaturization and dual-bandstop operation at the TDMB frequency range (195 MHz) and DVB-T/H frequency range (670 MHz). The size of the proposed filter is $30{\times}15\;mm$, and the -10 dB bandstop fractional bandwidth is approximately 73 % and 50 % at each frequency, respectively.

  • In this paper a dual-band Class-E power amplifier using Composite Right-/Left-Handed transmission lines and PIN diode is proposed. Dual-band operation is achieved by the frequency offset and nonlinear phase slope of CRLH TL for the matching network of power amplifiers. The proposed power amplifier has been realized by using in the input and the output matching network for high power added efficiency. PIN diode has been used to obtain the dual-band of power amplifier. The measured results show that output powers of 42.17 dBm and 41.43 dBm were obtained at 800 MHz and 1900 MHz, respectively. At this frequency, we have obtained the power-added efficiency(PAE) of 67.84 % and 65.31 % in two operation frequencies, respectively.

  • In this paper, a novel dual-band high-efficiency class-F power amplifier using the composite right/left-handed (CRLH) transmission lines (TLs) has been realized with one RF Si lateral diffusion metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistor (LDMOSFET). The CRLH TL can lead to metamaterial transmission line with the dual-band tuning capability. The dual-band operation of the CRLH TL is achieved by the frequency offset and the nonlinear phase slope of the CRLH TL for the matching network of the power amplifier. Because the control of the all harmonic components is very difficult in dual-band, we have managed only the second- and third-harmonics to obtain the high efficiency with the CRLH TL in dual-band. Also, the proposed power amplifier has been realized by using the harmonic control circuit for not only the output matching network, but also the input matching network for better efficiency. Two operating frequencies are chosen at 880 MHz and 1920 MHz in this work. The measured results show that the output power of 39.83 dBm and 35.17 dBm was obtained at 880 MHz and 1920 MHz, respectively. At this point, we have obtained the power-added efficiency (PAE) of 79.536 % and 44.04 % at two operation frequencies, respectively.

  • In this paper, the design of a new bandstop filter with an ultra-wide stopband is proposed using the metamaterial CRLH-TL. Instead of conventional periodic structures and multi-staged CRLH-TLs, extremely small one-cell type is adopted to circumvent the setbacks of conventional filters such as the lengthened ${\lambda}_g/2$-resonator ones or alternating impedance lowpass filter, and relatively slow skirt. Besides, for a very broad stopband, a strong coupling structure including stepped impedances is suggested and the zero-order resonance is made for effective size-reduction. The validity of the proposed design is proven through the fabrication and measurement, showing the overall size less than ${\lambda}_g/10$, the stopband wider than 12 GHz, 0.7 dB of the insertion loss.

  • A new metamaterial antenna with dual resonant modes is presented using an asymmetrical periodic arrangement for orthogonal radiation patterns. The proposed antenna produces two orthogonal modes by the asymmetrical periodic unit-cell arrangement. The orthogonal resonant mode provides perpendicular radiation patterns without changing the antenna polarization at each resonant mode. The fabricated antenna shows good agreements with the theoretical analysis of the electric-field. The experimental results shows the orthogonal radiation patterns along x- and y-axises, and gains are 3.34 and 3.86 dBi at each radiating resonant mode, respectively. Additionally, slotted ground structures are embedded on the back side of the antenna in order to reduce the size and enhance the radiation efficiency of 12 % and 27 %, respectively.
