  • This study is intended to evaluate the value of functional aspect from the viewpoint of habitat. The indicators that are used in biotope evaluations are various, but most of them use the criteria to evaluate the naturality. This evaluation method cannot appropriately reflect the functional characteristics coming from relation to the surrounding biotope. In this study, the connectivity, cohesion and diversity between individual biotope are quantitatively measured by a landscape index. It is hard to draw the functional value of individual biotopes because the landscape index related to connectivity, cohesion and diversity comes from a landscape having a number of biotopes. The concept of contribution was used to overcome this limitation. The concept of contribution is to quantify how much each individual biotope contributes to the connectivity, cohesion, and diversity in a certain range of landscape by deriving the amount of change in the landscape index according to the presence or absence of each individual biotope. In order to understand the characteristics of evaluation results in functional aspect, this research has done a comparative analysis of the previous research findings in the same target area. According to the result of the research, individual biotopes such as artificial forests, fragmented natural forests, and small planting sites were highly rated.

  • A new earth pressure equation considering the arching effect in $c-{\phi}$ soils was proposed for the accurate calculation of earth pressure on circular vertical shafts. The arching effect and the subsequent load recovery phenomenon occurring due to multi-step excavation were quantitatively investigated through laboratory tests. The new earth pressure equation was verified by comparing the test results with the earth pressures predicted by new equation in various soil conditions. Resulting from testing by using multi-step excavation, the arching effect and load recovery were clearly observed. The test results in $c-{\phi}$ soil showed that even a small amount of cohesion can cause the earth pressure to decrease significantly. Therefore, predicting earth pressure without considering such cohesion can lead to overestimation of earth pressure. The test results in various ground conditions demonstrated that the newly proposed equation, which enables consideration of cohesion as appropriate, is the most reliable equation for predicting earth pressure in both ${\phi}$ soil and $c-{\phi}$ soil. The comparison of the theoretical equations with the field data measured on a real construction site also highlighted the best-fitness of the theoretical equation in predicting earth pressure.

  • Social reviews such as SNS feeds and blog articles have been widely used to extract keywords reflecting opinions and complaints from users' perspective, and often include proper nouns or new words reflecting recent trends. In general, these words are not included in a dictionary, so conventional morphological analyzers may not detect and extract those words from the reviews properly. In addition, due to their high processing time, it is inadequate to provide analysis results in a timely manner. This paper presents a method for efficient keyword extraction from social reviews based on the notion of cohesion scoring. Cohesion scores can be calculated based on word frequencies, so keyword extraction can be performed without a dictionary when using it. On the other hand, their accuracy can be degraded when input data with poor spacing is given. Regarding this, an algorithm is presented which improves the existing cohesion scoring mechanism using the structure of a word tree. Our experiment results show that it took only 0.008 seconds to extract keywords from 1,000 reviews in the proposed method while resulting in 15.5% error ratio which is better than the existing morphological analyzers.

  • Volcanic rocks in Jeju Island indicate the differences in geological and mechanical characteristics from region to region, and have vesicular structure caused by various environmental factors. In this study, triaxial compressive strength tests were conducted for intact rocks sampled in northeastern onshore and offshore, southeastern offshore and northwestern offshore of Jeju Island. The estimated cohesion and internal friction angle from the results of triaxial compression tests were compared and analyzed with absorption, a parameter representing the vesicular properties of basalts in Jeju Island. As a result, it was found that the relationship between cohesion and absorption could be classified clearly, considering two different linear relationships in bulk specific gravity and absorption. As the absorption increases, the cohesion decreases exponentially. In addition, the internal friction angle decreases almost linearly with increasing in the absorption, regardless of the relationships in bulk specific gravity and absorption.

  • A cross-sectional, descriptive-correlational design was employed in this study. The main purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between female adolescents' mental health and their perception of family characteristics, such as family adaptability, family cohesion, family type, and family satisfaction, The theoretical rationale for this study is the 3-Dimensionl Circumplex Model that was formulated by Olson, et al. With respect to method, a structured questionnaire was employed to obtain the data. A total of 199 female students(high school second year) were recruited by convenience sampling. Data for this study were collected in October 1994 after a pilot study and pretest of the tools. The research tool used the following four self-report research types : Youth Self-Report (YSR) developed by Achenbach and Edelbrock, Family Adaptability & Cohesion Evaluation Scales (FACES) III, Family Satisfaction(FS) developed by Olson, et al. and a Demographic Data Sheet. The resulting data were processed using an SPSS PC for a Pearson prod uct-moment correlation coefficient, ANOVA. A linear relationship were found between female students' mental health and their perceived family cohesion(r=-.2237, p<.001), and family satisfaction(r=-.3951, p<.001), but no significant correlations was found between female students' mental health and their perceived adaptability. These findings demonstrated that family cohesion, family type, and family satisfaction were more powerful predictors than family adaptability. This study contributes to nursing practice by demonstrating the usefulness of YSR to differentiate deviant behavior in youth and also by providing nursing interventions designed to promote female mental health.

  • This study was performed to investigate the minimum safety factor of embankment in consideration of seismic coefficient by the psuedo-static analysis The variables were cohesion, the internal friction angle, angle of slope, height of seepage, height of embankment, depth of replacement The results obtained were compared with those by Fellenius method, simplified Bishop method and Janbu method. The results were summarized as follows: 1.The increasing rate of the minimum safety factor with the increasing of cohesion appeared larger in Fellenius method and Bishop method than in Janbu method. And that with the increasing of the internal friction angle appeared the lowest value in Janbu method. The minimum safety factor was influenced larger on the internal friction angle than on cohesion. 2.The variation of the minimum safety factor with the height of seepage at 0m and 5 m was nearly similar to Fellenius method, Bishop method and Janbu method. On the other hand, it was decreased suddenly at 25 m. 3.The minimum safety factor with the height of embankment was decreased remarkably under 10 m with the increasing of seismic coefficient. But, it was decreased slowly more than 10 m. As the height of embankment was low, the influence of cohesion appeared larger. 4.In heigher case of the depth of replacement, the phenomenon of reduction of the minimum safety factor appeared remarkably with seismic coefficient increased. And in lower case of the depth of replacement, the minimum safety factor was similar in Fellenius method and Bishop mehtod. But it appeared larger in Bishop method and Janbu method than in Fellenius method with the depth of replacement increased. 5.As the cohesion and the internal friction angle were large, the phenomenon of reduction of the minimum safety factor with the increasing of seismic coefficient appeared remarkably. Also, the influence of seismic coefficient in minimum safety factor appeared larger with the soil parameter increased. 6.When the seismic coefficient was considerated, investigation of the structural body on the slope stability appeared profitably in Fellenius method and Janbu method than in Bishop method.

  • Mussel byssal protein has strong adhesive capability even in wet surface. It has been reported that nine proteins in marine blue mussel, often referred to a representative mussel, contribute to form mussel byssal threads and plaques. DOPA containing two hydroxy groups called cathecol is recognized that it plays a major role in adhesion as well as cohesion process within byssal structure. In this paper, adhesion and cohesion mechanisms were introduced and evaluated by supportive literature published during last decade. Diverse applications of cathecol chemicals were also examined in terms of innovative adhesive, bioadhesive and challenging material for tissue engineering. It is noticeable that reconsideration of mussel proteins could provide the various opportunities as biomaterials.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the cohesion-related text factors that affected the correct answer rate of the English reading section in the Korean CSAT. To this end, reading passages of the 2014-2018 CSAT and CSAT mock test were collected and analyzed in terms of cohesion. And then, correlation analysis was implemented between the results regarding cohesion and item difficulty. The conclusions were as follows. First, the correct answer rate tended to increase as the linguistic burden of learners was reduced, when specific arguments between sentences were repeated. Second, there was no statistically significant correlation between the 8 sub-area of latent semantic analysis and the correct answer rate. Finally, the pedagogical implications of this study and suggestions for further study were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the moderated mediating effect of family cohesion in the relationships among work-family conflict, job stress, and turnover intension of female low-wage workers. Participants included 190 low-wage workers whose monthly salary was less than 2 million Korean won (approximately $1,900). The results are as follows. First, the work-family conflict was associated with turnover intension. Second, job stress mediate the relationships between work-family conflict and turnover intension, and family cohesion have the moderated mediating effect among these variables. These results suggested that there is a need to enhance policies and programs for work-family compatibility to decrease work-family conflicts and job stress and to strengthen family cohesion to reduce the turnover of female low-wage workers.
