오염총량 개념을 적용한 매립장 사후관리종료제도 개선 방안 (Improvement Method for the Post-Management End System of a Landfill by Applying Total Pollutant Load Concept)

  • 오염총량 개념을 반영한 매립장 사후관리종료제도 개선방안을 수도권매립지 제1매립장을 대상으로 적용하여 분석하였다. 매립가스 모델을 통해 분석한 메탄 잔여비율은 총 발생 가능량인 2,521×106 Nm3에 대하여 2020년 8.8%, 2030년 7.0%, 2040년 6.5%이었다. 2020년 이후의 표면발산 메탄량에 2005~2019년의 평균 산화율 89.1%를 적용할 경우, 실제 배출기준 메탄 잔여율은 2020년 1.01%, 2030년 0.76%, 2040년 0.70%로서 2025년 이후 메탄이 전량 표면 발산되어도 2019년 기준 표면 발산량보다 적어 사후관리 종료가 가능하였다. 침출수 수질에 대한 추이분석 결과, BOD는 2024년, COD 2047년, T-N은 2117년경에 배출허용기준을 만족할 수 있을 것으로 추정되었다. 사후관리종료를 배출부하량을 기준으로 변경할 경우 BOD는 현 시점에서 그리고 COD도 수년 내 사후관리종료가 가능하나, T-N의 경우 2041년 이후에나 가능하여 근본적인 관리방식의 전환이 필요한 것으로 분석되었다.

Kasugamycin 생산을 위한 연속 청정생물공정 개발 (Development of Continuous Clean Bioprocess for Kasugamycin Production)

  • 방선균인 Streptomyces kasugaensis에 의해서 생산되는 이차대사산물인 kasugamycin 생산성 증대 및 단위 생산량 당 오염물질 배출량 저감을 위한 연속 고정화 배양을 수행하였다. 세포 고정화에 적합한 포자 수확을 위한 포자형성 촉진 배지 개발은 물론 고정화 담체로 사용한 셀라이트에 수확된 포자를 고정화시키는 방법을 확립하였다. 연속 고정화 배양 시 고정화세포의 유출을 방지함으로써 안정된 연속배양을 가능토록 하기위한 decantor 형태의 고정화세포 분리기가 장착된 반응기를 사용하였다. 희석 속도 및 공급액 중의 기질 농도(당 농도, 인 농도)를 변화시키며 생합성된 kasugamycin 생산성 및 화학적산소요구량(COD)을 측정하였으며 이들을 현탁세포를 이용한 회분식 발효에서의 kasugamycin 생산성 및 발효 폐액 중의 COD 값과 비교하였다. 고정화 세포를 이용한 연속배양에서의 kasugamycin 생산성이 현탁세포를 이용한 회분식 발효에 비해 2.5배 높았으며, 동시에 단위 생산량 당 COD가 2.3배 저감되는 것으로 나타났다. 이것으로부터 연속 고정화 배양이 현탁 회분식 배양에 비해 kasugamycin 생산성 및 오염물질 배출 측면에서 유리한 청정 공정임을 확인할 수 있었다.

남해 연안 피조개 (Scapharca broughtonii) 양식장의 환경특성 (The effect of geochemical characteristics and environmental factors on the growth of cultured Arkshell Scapharca broughtonii at several shellfish-farming bays on the South coast of Korea)

  • 피조개 양식장의 해수 수온, 염분, pH, DO, 영양염, COD의 조사결과 해역별 편차가 적게 나타났다. 그리고 엽록소 a 농도는 7-8월에 부영양화 기준인 $7{\mu}g/L$ 보다 높게 나타났지만 8월 이후 부영양화 기준보다 낮은 농도를 보였다. 따라서 피조개 양식장에서 서식환경에 의한 생존율의 급감은 여름철 고수온, 낮은 용존산소량과 먹이원인 클로로필의 감소로 인하여 발생되는 것으로 사료된다. 퇴적물의 강열감량 (IL) 과 산휘발성화합물 (AVS) 및 함수율 (WC) 은 유사한 양상을 보이며 큰 차이가 나타나지 않았으며 화학적산소요구량 (COD) 은 거제만의 조사 정점에서 월별 변화가 심하게 나타났다. 퇴적물의 평균입도 (Mz) 는 8.07-8.33 범위를 보였고 분급도는 1.66-2.13 범위로 피조개 양식에 적합한 지역으로 나타났다. 퇴적물의 C/N 비는 양식장에서 5-10 사이의 값을 나타내어 해양기원의 유기물에 의한 것으로 추정되며, C/S 비는 지역에서 2.8 이상으로 유기물이 분해되기 전에 유기물의 급속한 퇴적이 이루어졌을 환경으로 조사 되었다. 중금속에 대한 농집지수 (Igeo) 의 결과는 연구지역이 Igeo class가 0에서 4 사이로 분포되어 있어 오염되지 않았거나 약간오염된 수준으로 (practically unpolluted / moderately polluted) 나타났다.

Effect of fibrous diets on chemical composition and odours from pig slurry

  • Objective: Incorporating high fibre ingredients into pig diets has the potential to reduce odour emissions from of pigs. The current study was carried out to determine effect of diets containing 0, 80 and 160 g/kg of each of lucerne hay, maize cobs and sunflower husks on the chemical characteristics and odours from pig slurries. Methods: Twenty eight pigs averaging $18{\pm}2.0kg$ were kept in individual cages, over four weeks. All pigs were fed ad libitum. Faeces and urine were collected, mixed in a 1:2.3 ratio (w/w), stored and fermented for 16 days in a temperature controlled room at $22^{\circ}C{\pm}2.3^{\circ}C$. The slurry was sampled twice (on day 1 and on day 16) of the fermentation period and analysed for pH, chemical oxygen demand (COD), nitrogen and short chain fatty acids (SCFA) concentration, on wet basis. All samples were tested for odour offensiveness using 18 panelists. A scale of 1 to 5 was used to rank the odour severity, (1 = not offensive, 5 = extremely offensive). Results: Slurry pH and COD varied with fibre source (p<0.05). On day 16, COD for lucerne hay, sunflower husk and maize cobs were 369, 512, and 425 (standard error of the mean = 34.2) mg of oxygen per litre. Total SCFA concentration was higher at day 16 than day 1 (p<0.05). Odour offensiveness varied with fibre source across both incubation periods (p<0.05). Sunflower husks and lucerne hay-based diets were rated as less offensive (mean rank = 2.2) than maize cob diets (mean rank of 4.3) (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that different fibre sources and incubation period influence chemical composition and odour of the slurry. There is, thereby, a need to incorporate locally available fibrous feeds in the diet of pigs because they have an economical and environmental relevance to pig management.

호소 퇴적물의 유기물 분포 (Distribution of the Organic Contents in Reservoir Sediment)

  • The organic contents of reservoir sediment can offer a good indicator to events in history of lake life. Reservoir sediment have many information of the past and future fingerprint about development direction of life cycle in biological animals. So, in this study we made an effort to know the distribution of organic contents in Daecheong reservoir sediment. Items for this investigations are such as follows: Loss on ignition, COD, Organic carbon, TN, TP, heavy metal contents, Loss on ignitions were determined in 6.44~15.91% and COD were determined in 1.606~6.859%, organic carbon in 1,077~3.743%. Contents of TP and TN were in the range of 0.083~0.757%, and 0.645~0.926%, respectively.

국내 6개 다목적댐 저수지의 담수 전·후 수질 비교평가 (Water Quality Assessment for pre and post-Impoundment of 6 Multipurpose Dam Reservoirs in Korea)

  • This study was carried out to assess the variations of water quality caused by the dam construction on the river. Six dams-Yongdam, Miryang, Hoengseong, Boryeong, Jangheung and Buan- constructed recently in Korea were selected for the study. Chemical oxygen demand(COD) was increased in the initial stage of water storage at dams compared to the lotic(river) environment, but after 3 years it was maintained lower and stabilized concentrations. Five dams except for Jangheung Dam were maintained Ia~Ib grade conditions under the water quality criteria of Korea. The concentrations of total nitrogen(T-N) were decreased under the lentic(reservoir) environment compared to the river status. Total phosphorus(T-P) was decreased 13~63% at the reservoir condition. We concluded that increase of COD concentration was due to the debris organic materials of the land, but temporary phenomenon. T-N and T-P concentrations were decreased at the lentic condition compared to the lotic.

농촌 소유역 유출수의 오염물질 농도특성 (Characteristics of Pollutant Concentrations in Runoff Water from a Small Rural Watershed)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate characteristics of concentrations of pollutants such as TN (Total Nitrogen), TP (Total Phosphorus) and COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) in outflow from a nonpoint source dominated watershed ($6.7km^2$). Regular flow measurement and water sampling were taken at five-day intervals during two years (February 2002 to January 2004) in the Ingyeong River, a tributary of the Han River. The mean concentrations of pollutants during rainy days were significantly (p<0.05) higher than those during dry days. For dry days, the flow-weighted mean concentration (0.06 mg/L) of TP during paddy irrigation periods were higher than that (0.02 mg/L) during non-irrigation periods. The seasonal mean concentration of TN was highest in spring likely due to nitrogen fertilization, but those of TP and COD were highest in summer due to particulate phosphorus and sediment-associated organic matter caused by increased discharge. The pollutant concentrations significantly increased with discharge, suggesting that the measures to reduce the increase in the concentrations during storms are needed to control nonpoint source pollution.

Anaerobic Lipid Degradation Through Acidification and Methanization

  • In biological wastewater treatment, high lipid concentrations can inhibit the activity of microorganisms critical to the treatment process and cause undesirable biomass flotation. To reduce the inhibitory effects of high lipid concentrations, a two-phase anaerobic system, consisting of an anaerobic sequencing batch reactor (ASBR) and an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor in series, was applied to synthetic dairy wastewater treatment. During 153 days of operation, the two-phase system showed stable performance in lipid degradation. In the ASBR, a 13% lipid removal efficiency and 10% double-bond removal efficiency were maintained. In the UASB, the chemical oxygen demand (COD), lipid, and volatile fatty acid (VFA) removal efficiencies were greater than 80%, 70%, and 95%, respectively, up to an organic loading rate of 6.5 g COD/l/day. No serious operational problems, such as significant scum formation or sludge washout, were observed. Protein degradation was found to occur prior to degradation during acidogenesis.

유연성 섬유사 여과기를 이용한 순환여과식 양식장의 부유고형물 제거 (Removal of Suspended Solids Using a Flexible Fiber Filter in a Recirculating Aquaculture System)

  • The suitability of a flexible fiber filter for removing suspended solid (SS) in a recirculating aquaculture system was evaluated. This study focused on variation in the performance with a change in filtering time, influent water quality, and filtering mode duration. The particle distribution diagram of the filter effluent showed that the number of particles bigger than $5-8{\mu}m$ decreased dramatically, and the removal efficiency exceeded 80%. Although the removal efficiencies of SS and chemical oxygen demand (COD) were dependent on the quality of the influent, the SS and COD concentrations of the effluent were not affected by the influent concentrations. This was despite the deterioration if water quality after feeding in the rearing tank. The performance of the filter was not affected by the filtering mode duration, feeding conditions, or filtering time. The SS concentration and turbidity of the recirculating-type rearing tank were 30% and 50% lower, respectively, than of the a non-recirculating-type rearing tank under the same operating conditions. The flexible fiber filter was applicable to a recirculating aquaculture system that uses plenty of seawater, based on its low filtering resistance $(2kg_f/cm^2)$, high flux $(330m^3/m^2/hr)$, and high fine particle removal efficiency (80%, $5-8{\mu}m$).

A Study on the Influence of a Sewage Treatment Plant's Operational Parameters using the Multiple Regression Analysis Model

  • In this study, the influence of the control and operational parameters within a sewage treatment plant were reviewed by performing multiple regression analysis on the effluent quality of the sewage treatment. The data used for this review are based on the actual data from a sewage treatment plant using the media process within the year 2012. The prediction models of chemical oxygen demand ($COD_{Mn}$) and total nitrogen (T-N) within the effluent of the 2nd settling tank based on the multiple regression analysis yielded the prediction accuracy measurements of 0.93 and 0.84, respectively; and it was concluded that the model was accurately predicting the variances of the actual observed values. If the data on the energy spent on each operating condition can be collected, then the operating parameter that conserves energy without violating the effluent quality standards of COD and T-N can be determined using the regression model and the standardized regression coefficients. These results can provide appropriate operation guidelines to conserve energy to the operators at sewage treatment plants that consume a lot of energy.
