  • The practical way to minimize the greenhouse gas is to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide. For this reason, CCS(Carbon Capture and Storage) technology, which could reduce carbon dioxide emission, has risen as a realistic alternative in recent years. In addition, the researcher is recently working into ways of applying CCS technologies with deep saline aquifer. In this study, the evaluation model on the feasibility of $CO_2$ sequestration in the deep saline aquifer using ANN(Artificial Neural Network) was developed. In order to develop the efficiency-evaluation model, basic model was created in the deep saline aquifer and sensitivity analysis was performed for the aquifer characteristics by utilizing the commercial simulator of GEM. Based on the sensitivity analysis, the factors and ranges affecting $CO_2$ sequestration in the deep saline aquifer were chosen. The result from ANN training scenario were confirmed $CO_2$ sequestration by solubility trapping and residual trapping mechanism. The result from ANN model evaluation indicated there is the increase of correlation coefficient up to 0.99. It has been confirmed that the developed model can be utilized in feasibility of $CO_2$ sequestration at deep saline aquifer.

  • A sensor element array for combinatorial solution deposition research was fabricated using LTCC (Low-temperature Co-fired Ceramics). The designed LTCC was co-fired at $800^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour after lamination at $70^{\circ}C$ under 3000 psi for 30 minutes. $SnO_2$ sol was prepared by a hydrothermal method at $200^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours. Tin chloride and ammonium carbonate were used as raw materials and the ammonia solution was added to a Teflon jar. 20 droplets of $SnO_2$ sol were deposited onto a LTCC sensor element and this was heat treated at $600^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours. The gas sensitivity ($S\;=\;R_a/R_g$) values of the $SnO_2$ sensor and 0.04 wt% Pd-added $SnO_2$ sensor were measured. The 0.04 wt% Pd-added $SnO_2$ sensor showed higher sensitivity (S = 8.1) compared to the $SnO_2$ sensor (S = 5.95) to 200 ppm $CH_3COCH_3$ at $400^{\circ}C$.

  • Tape casting ceramics technology has been adopted for the fabrication of solid state electrochemical $CO_2$ sensors and the packaging substrates. The fabricated $CO_2$ sensors exhibit a fast response and a good recovery with the almost theoretical sensitivity of 37 mV/decade, corresponding to a sensor operating temperature of 373 K. The two packaging methods, the wire bonding package and the surface- mounted on the ceramic package, were compared with respect to their power consumption and mass production feasibility. In terms of the ease of fabrication, the surface mount packaging technology is superior to the wire bonding technology but its power consumption is approximately twice that of the wired package.

  • In this paper, we developed an optical sheet for LED lighting with integrated $CO_2$ gas and temperature sensor which can monitor at the indoor environment. The optical sheet for LED lighting is fabricated through PMMA(Polymethyl methacrylate) injection process using mold. This research enables to fabricate the reflective sheet, light-guide plate and the prism sheet in a optical sheet. The fabricated sheet demonstrates higher intensity of optical efficiency compared with single-sided sheets. The $CO_2$ sensor was fabricated using NDIR(NON-Dispersive Infrared) method and it has $0.0235mV/V{\cdot}PPM$ sensitivity. The temperature sensor was fabricated using RTD(Resistance temperature detector) method and it has $0.563{\Omega}/^{\circ}C $sensitivity.

  • With the increasing number of automobiles, the problem of air pollution from the exhaust gases of automobiles has become a critical issue. The principal gases that cause air pollution are nitrogen oxide or NO$_x$(NO and NO$_2$), and CO. Because NO$_x$ gases cause acid rain and global warming and produce ozone(O$_3$) that leads to serious metropolitan smog from photochemical reaction, they must be detected and reduced. Mixtures of WO$_3$ and $In_2O_3$(WO$_3$:$In_2O_3$=10:0, 7:3, 5:5, 3:7, and 0:10 in wt.%), which are NO$_x$ gas-sensing materials, were prepared, and thick-film gas sensors that included a heater and a temperature sensor were fabricated. Their sensitivity to NO$_x$ was measured at 250$\sim$400$^{\circ}C$ for NO$_x$ concentrations of 1$\sim$5 ppm. The $In_2O_3$ thick-film sensor showed excellent sensitivity($R_{gas}/R_{air}$=10.22) at 300$^{\circ}C$ to 5-ppm NO. The response time for 70 % saturated sensitivity was about 3 seconds, and the sensors exhibited very fast reactivity to NO$_x$.

  • Gas sensing properties of P-N contact ceramics, composed of ZnO and CuO pairs sintered at different temperatures, were studied for 1% CO gas. Between 10$0^{\circ}C$ and 32$0^{\circ}C$ temperature range, it was observed that 2-probe current-voltage (I-V) characteristics, temperature and voltage dependence of sensivities were dependant largely upon ZnO samples. Pairs including a ZnO sample sintered at 110$0^{\circ}C$ showed maximum senitivity of 9 and 13 depending upon counterpart CuO samples, at 260~29$0^{\circ}C$. On the other hand, pairs including a ZnO samples sintered at 90$0^{\circ}C$ showed increasing sensitivity within in the measured temperature range and maximum sensitivities were about 4.

  • A new planar-type micro gas sensor was designed and fabricated on silicon substrate and the operating characteristics of the sensor were investigated. The thin sensitive film of the sensor was fabricated by spin-coating of the SnO$_2$ sol solution which was synthesized by hydrothermal method. The spin-coating method for preparation of sensing layer was adopted to improve the long-term stability of the fabricated sensing film instead of physical methods such as rf sputtering and thermal evaporation. The fabricated microsensor showed a fairly good sensing performance for CO gas in air at 250$^{\circ}C$ The sensitivity(S=Ra/Rg) was shown to be about 5 to 2000ppm CO with heating power of 50mW.

  • Au@ZnO core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared by a simple method followed by heat-treatment for gas sensor applications. The advantage of the core-shell morphology was investigated by comparing the gas sensing performances of Au@ZnO core-shell NPs with pure ZnO NPs and different wt% of Au-loaded ZnO NPs. The crystal structures, shapes, sizes, and morphologies of all sensing materials were characterized by XRD, TEM, and HAADF-STEM. Au@ZnO core-shell NPs were nearly spherical in shape and Au NPs were encapsulated in the center with a 40-45 nm ZnO shell outside. The gas sensing operating temperature for Au@ZnO core-shell NPs was $300^{\circ}C$, whereas it was $350^{\circ}C$ for pure ZnO NPs and Au-loaded ZnO NPs. The maximum response of Au@ZnO core-shell NPs to 1000 ppm CO at $300^{\circ}C$ was 77.3, which was three-fold higher than that of 2 wt% Au-loaded ZnO NPs. Electronic and chemical effects were the primary reasons for the improved sensitivity of Au@ZnO core-shell NPs. It was confirmed that Au@ZnO core-shell NPs had better sensitivity and stability than Au-loaded ZnO NPs.

  • In 2006, the Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Technologies (CO2CRC) plans to undertake (subject to receiving the necessary approvals) a Pilot program for $CO_2$ storage within a depleted gas reservoir. The Otway Basin Pilot Program (OBPP) aims to demonstrate that subsurface $CO_2$ storage is both economically and environmentally sustainable in Australia. This will be the first $CO_2$ storage program in the world to utilise a depleted gas reservoir and, hence, the experience gained will be a valuable addition to the range of international $CO_2$ storage programs that are underway or being planned. A key component of the OBPP is the design of an appropriate geophysical monitoring strategy that will allow the subsurface migration of the $CO_2$ plume to be tracked and to verify that containment has been successful. This paper presents the results from modelling the predicted gravity response to $CO_2$ injection into the Otway Basin reservoir, where the goal was to determine minimum volumes of $CO_2$ that may be detectable using non-seismic geophysical techniques. Modelling results indicate that gravity measurements at 10 m spacing within the existing observation well and the planned $CO_2$ injection well would provide excellent vertical resolution, even for the smallest $CO_2$ volume modelled (10000 tonnes), but resolving the lateral extent of the plume would not be possible without additional wells at closer spacing.

  • In this work, Ga-doped ZnO (GZO) thin films for NOx gas sensor application were deposited on low temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC) substrates, by RF magnetron sputtering method. The LTCC substrate is one of promising materials for this application since it has many advantages (e.g., low cost production, high manufacturing yields and easy realizing 3D structure etc.). The LTCC substrates with thickness of 400 pm were fabricated by laminating 12 green tapes which consist of alumina and glass particle in an organic binder. The structural properties of the fabricated GZO thin films with different thickness are analyzed by X-ray diffraction method (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). The GZO gas sensors are tested by gas measurement system under varing operation temperature and show good performance to the NOx gas in sensitivity and response time.
