Objectives : The aim of present study is to estimate clinical outcome of Chuna treatment and Chuna medicine treatment for patients with H.I.V.D(Herniated Intervertebral Disc) of lumbar spine according to the character of patients and the steps of Chuna therapy, and therefore suggest a prospective, desirable Chuna treatment and patient guidance. Methods : We investigated the 258 cases of outpatients who were diagnosed as the H.I.V.D. on lumbar C.T. or MRI and were treated more than seven times with chuna treatment and more than one time with Chuna medicine treatment In Jaseng Oriental Medicine Hospital from September 1, 1999 to December 31, 2000. We evaluated the subjective symptoms by Hudgin's classification. For the sake of the more objective evaluation for before and after treatment, we calculated the Improvement index and ratio of the four parts to estimate the pain and functional disorder In before and after treatment by Macnab's criteria. Results & Conclusion : The improvement index and ratio showed that the conservative therapy with Chuna therapy improved the symptom of H.I.V.D. much effectively, and especially in the patient groups of male, 30-39 years, standing Job, duration of symptom within one week, the 4th step of chuna treatment, the first step of chuna medicine treatment, and the excellent satisfactory assessment of Chuna treatment. Therefore, it is supposed that the conservative therapy with Chuna therapy and patient guidance should be much actively continued.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of chuna treatment on cervical sprain caused by traffic accident in early stage. Methods : This study carried out on 20 patients who have received hospital treatment in Daejeon Univ. cheonan Oriental Hospital. Non-chuna group got acupunture-therapy, herbal medication, physical therapy and Chuna group got chuna treatment besides. We measured Heart Rate Variability(HRV) and Visual Analog Scale(VAS) on 2nd, 4th day. Results : After being treated by our methods, Chuna Group showed the inclination to balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve. In chuna group, an autonomic nerve activity showed the inclination to increase. But there were no significant difference between both groups. Chuna group's VAS were significantly decreased(p=0.043). Conclusions : The results suggest that Chuna treatment help traffic accident patients in early stage to reduce pain. Refer to autonomic nerve system, chuna treatment seem to do positive effect but Further long tenn study in a large scale is needed.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the korean medical treatment for compressive neuropathy of radial nerve, especially chuna treatment of cervical vertebrae. Methods : Two patients were treated with acupuncture and moxibustion, herbal medication, chuna treatment on cervical vertebrae. To evaluate the wrist drop and numbness of hand, Coding Result of arbitrary values and manual muscle test(MMT), visual analogue scale(VAS) were used. Results : After 2 weeks-treatment(in case 1) & 5 weeks-treatment(in case 2), the movement and power of wrist were restored to nearly normal range, also the numbness of hands was removed. All cases show the improvement in the movement of wrist and the numbness of hands. Conclusions : Korean medical treatment including cervical manual therapy as chuna treatment is remarkably effective for radial nerve palsy. But further studies are required to concretely prove the effectiveness of chuna treatment on central vertebrae for peripheral neuropathy.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of chuna treatment on lumbar sprain caused by traffic accident. Methods: This study carried out on 20 patients who have received hospital treatment in Semyung University Oriental Hospital. 20 patients were divided 2 groups. Non-chuna group got acupuncture-therapy, herbal medication, physical therapy and chuna group got chuna treatment besides. And then compared the VAS measurements of each group. Results: 1. Both group were significantly improved in VAS after 7 days of treatment. 2. Chuna group compared with Non-chuna group was significantly improved in VAS after 7 days of treatment. Conclusions: We found out that chuna treatment is considered to be effective and useful on lumbar sprain caused by traffic accident.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Chuna treatment for neck pain patients caused by traffic accident. Methods : 64 patients were divided into two groups, experimental group and control group, of 32 patients each. Control group was treated with general korean medical treatment three times per week for 2 weeks. Experimental group was treated with Chuna treatment and general korean medical treatment three times per week for 2 weeks. We evaluated the treatment effect of each group with the visual analog scale(VAS) and neck disability index(NDI). Results : 1. In both two groups, VAS were decreased significantly in statistics after treatment. 2. In both two groups, NDI were decreased significantly in statistics after treatment. 3. There were significant reduction of the VAS in experimental group than control group, but, there were not significant reduction of the NDI in experimental group than control group. Conclusions : We suggest that Chuna treatment could be recommended as a useful therapy to neck pain patients caused by traffic accident.

The occurrence of neurologic symptom, for example cauda equina syndrome or disc rupture after Chuna treatment seems to be an uncommon event considering the large number of Chuna treatment performed. We experienced a woman who developed sudden complication after lumbar Chuna treatment. Patients in spinal hernation undergone Chuna treatment can be the causative factor in neurological symptom and must be considered in each case. Therefore, physicans and patients should be aware that neurological complication may occur as a result of lumba Chuna treatment.

Objectives The present study retrospectively investigated clinical outcome of patients with structual scoliosis during Chuna treatment. Methods : The study population consisted of 34 patients(14 patients of adolescent and 20 patients of adult) who were diagnosised as scoliosis with radiological finding. All patients were treated with Chuna treatment, and after treatment, evaluated with radiological measurement by calculating the scoliosis correction angle from the Initial and follow-up spine AP and lateral views. Also the evaluation of clinical outcome was done twice pre and post treatment during this study. Results : The results were summarized as follows ; 1) The 85.3 percent of patients complained physical pain. and adult group had various painful lesion compared with adolescent group. 2) Adult group had treated $18.0{\pm}7.2$ times and adolescent group treated $13.5{\pm}5.7$ times with Chuna treatment. 3) Scoliotic angle is reduced in 92.9 percent of adolescent group and had all of adult group after Chuna treatment, especially, statistically significance appeared in adult group. 4) Adult group was superior to adolescent group in correctability and scoliotic angle change. 5) Correction effect was better in the group which initial scoliotic angle was lessor, or had more time of treatment. 6) According to grade of vertebral body rotation, scoliotic angle is larger and correctability was lower. Conclusions : Chuna treatment was efficacious against scoliosis. And it is necessary for adolescent scoliosis patient to be more carefully treated and observed.

Refer to autonomic nerve system, chuna treatment seem to do positive effect but Further long term study in a large scale is needed.

Cauda equina syndrome(CES) and disc hemiation have been implicated as a potential complication of Chuna Manipulation Treatment. We reported a man who developed sudden complication alter lumbar Chuna Manipulation Treatment. It is supposed that this patient suffered a disc herniation secondarily due to a lumbar Chuna Manipulation Treatment. Therefore, doctors should be aware that neurological complication may occur as a result of lumbar Chuna Manipulation Treatment.

A 28-year-old woman presented with postpartum pelvic pain. The patient complained severe pain and couldn't walk at all a week after natal. Computed tomography and plain radiography of the pelvis didn't reveal abnormal condition except asymmetrical alignment. Chuna treatment isn't usually applicable to the patient after natal. But we tried Chuna treatment to adjust the asymmetrical alignment of pelvis by half degree of strength. The pelvic pain improved considerably after 2 weeks treatment, so we report this case to emphasize the role of Chuna treatment in the management of postpartum pelvic pain.
