An Alternative Approach to Environmental Ethics Education from the perspectives of CHAE(體)-YONG(用)-SANG(相) Theory (환경윤리교육의 체용론(體用論)적 접근 방안 - <자연-경제-환경>의 연계성을 중심으로 -)

  • There are some considerations that must take into account in environmental education in the aspect of the difference of value clarification between ecological and economic viewpoint on environment. Although we have a tendency to think that the differences are unavoidable because we are on the economy-oriented life, we should realize that such emphasis to economics comes from the differences between ecological and economic view point on environment. We have lived and thought on the basis of Economic view point, especially, environmental policies are established on the basis of economic efficiency. But this tendency has become great obstacles to environmental ethics education because it dilutes the reason of natural preservation and removes the fundamental reasons why the nature should be preserved. Therefore it is very difficult to balance the value clarification between economic and ecological viewpoint in actual life. Furthermore, environmental problems can not be solved only through economic approach, because of their limits to belief solving from providing incentives. It is very important to make people have a way of thinking which economic activities and debates can be made on the ecological resources. Therefore we can compare this relation to CHAE-YONG founded on Buddism and Chinese philosophy. CHAE means essence of every reaction in the cosmos, and YONG means the reaction itself. CHAE is regarded to ecological resources, and YONG is thought to every-day economic activities. YONG is not able to existwithout CHAE. If economic activities can be done on the basic limit of ecological resources, we can build suitable environment to living condition. We call this appropriate environment as SANG. In other words, the connection of CHAE-YONG-SANG means ecological resources - economic activities - sustainable environment. It is realized that the relations between economics and ecology should be equalized for the balanced environmental ethics education. This study tries to get out of unbalanced relations between economics and ecology from the persepectives of CHAE-YONG-SANG and it was done to suggest an alternative environmental ethics education program

  • A wind turbine simulation program for the coupled dynamics of aerodynamics, elasticity, multi-body dynamics and controls of turbine is newly developed by combining an aero-elastic code and a multi-body dynamics code. The aero-elastic code, based on the blade momentum theory and generalized dynamic wake theory, is developed by NREL(National Renewable Energy Laboratory, USA). The multi-body dynamics code is commercial one which is capable of accounting for geometric nonlinearity and twist deflection. A turbulent wind load case is simulated for the NREL 5-MW baseline wind turbine model by the developed program and FAST. As a result, the two results agree well enough to verify the reliability of the developed program.

  • A novel 2$\times$2 switching characteristics are investigated. This switching characteristics are obtained in the multimode interference waveguide structure. For analysis, beam propagation method (BPM) based on mode propagation theory is used. As a result, the extinction ratio of higher than 11.74dB is achieved.

  • The water leak in water-cooled generator stator windings can generate the serious accidents such as insulation breakdown and it brings a generator to the unexpected sudden outage. Accordingly, it is important to diagnose the water absorption of them for the effective operation of power plant. Especially, the capacitance value which is measured for diagnosis is very small so the special diagnosis methods like stochastic theory are needed. KEPRI developed the water absorption test equipment and diagnosis technology for them. The developed diagnosis technology is applied to the real system and the results of water absorption test for stator windings are agreed to them of water leak test.

  • Observations have indicated that magnetic reconnect ion may occur frequently in the photosphere and chromosphere as well as in the solar corona. The observed features include cancelling magnetic features seen in photospheric magnetograms, and different kinds of small-scale activities such as UV explosive events and EUV jets. By integrating the observed parameters of these features with the Sweet-Parker reconnect ion theory, an attempt is made to clarify the nature of chromospheric magnetic reconnection. Our results suggest that magnetic reconnect ion may be occurring at many different levels of the photosphere and chromosphere without a preferred height and at a faster speed than is predicted by the Sweet-Parker reconnect ion model using the classical value of electric conductivity. Introducing an anomalous magnetic diffusivity 10-100 times the classical value is one of the possible ways of explaining the fast reconnect ion as inferred from observations.

  • This paper presents a new method for contingency selection of the transient stability. Contingency ranking in transient stability is done by estimating the change in the imaginary part of electro-mechanical oscillation mode, which represents modal synchronizing coefficient. And the change in the imaginary part is obtained by applying eigen-sensitivity theory of augmented matrix to linear system model. The Proposed algorithm was tested for New England System and compared the results with PSS/E dynamic simulation.

  • This paper describes a new method for extracting characteristic impedance of transmission line using Substrate Integrated Artificial Dielectric (SIAD). The new procedure to calculate the characteristic impedance of SIAD transmission line is described with the proper equations and basic transmission line theory. The characteristic impedance is determined as an almost fixed value in the proposed method, while it fluctuates according to frequency in the previous method. As the result, the effective dielectric constant of SIAD transmission line is calculated as a fixed value rather than fluctuating one. In order to show the validity of the proposed method, SIAD microstrip lines are simulated and measured, and characteristic impedances and effective dielectric constant are calculated and compared to the previous method.

  • An FLNN-based neural network controller is applied to precise positioning of XY table with friction as the extension study of [11]. The neural network identifies the frictional farces of the table. Its weight adaptation rule, named the reinforcement adaptive learning rule, is derived from the Lyapunov stability theory. The experimental results with 2-DOF XY table verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme. It is also expected that the proposed control approach is applicable to a wide class of mechanical systems.

The Change of the Theory of Reading in the Later Joseon Period (조선후기 독서궁리론과 지식의 변화)

  • This article aims to investigate the change of theories of reading and its historical meaning in the later Joseon period. Three scholar who left major theories of reading are mainly analyzed for the sake of it. Park, Se-chae(1631-1695) was a Neo-Confucianist who had the theory of reading named Dokseo-Gungliron(讀書窮理論). It was totally based on the scheme of Neo-Confucianist instruction and concentrated on mastering the moral principles with relishing the sentences of the Confucian Canons. Jeong, Yak-yong(1762-1836) was a Practical learning scholar and then criticized the moral-centric theory of reading of Neo-Confucianism. He valued much of the Confucian Canons but also focused on erudite reading so as to enlarge practical knowledge. Hong, Gil-ju(1786-1841) was a stylist and presented a severe criticism against Neo-Confucianist theory of reading as much. He thought that what we could realize with reading are the principles of the individual, not of the whole. The change of theories of reading in the later Joseon period as above reveals us the fact that the intellectual history of that period was in the process of dynamical change.

  • It is more important than ever to have talent with innovative capacities for sustainable agriculture and rural areas, but adolescents's interest in and understanding of agriculture and rural areas is very low. Therefore, this study analyzed the experiences of participants in the Agriculture Career Exploration Activities Program. and suggests strategies to improve and revitalize agricultural education based on these findings. First, Institutions and facilities that run agricultural education programs need opportunities for self-checks. Second, it is necessary to develop various contents and its distribution channels to enable the experience related to it in daily life. Third, it is important to provide experience in the middle school curriculum, which requires the use of a system such as the Free Semester System. Fourth, education and promotion to parents and teachers is also important, as it has a direct impact on youth's perception of it.
