인체의 영양상태가 세포매개성 및 체액성 면역 반응에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Nutritional Status on Cell-mediated and Humoral Immunity in Female College Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of nutritional status on the cell-mediated and humoral immunity in female college students. The nutritional status of twenty subjects was determined by six-days food records, anthropometric measurements, and biochemical assessments of serum nutrients. Cell-mediated and humoral immunity of the subjects was analyzed by in vivo and in vitro assessments. The results were summerized as follows : First, The average daily energy intake was 1437Kcal(CHO : PRO : FAT = 61:13:26), which corresponds to 71.9% of RDA. 두시하태독법의 Th2 분화 조절을 통한 알레르기 비염 완화 효과 (Reduction of Allergic Rhinitis by Controlling the Th2 Differentiation of Douchi Hataedock)

  • Objectives: This study investigated the effects of Douchi Hataedock on Th2-skewed conditions to control allergic rhinitis. Methods: NC/Nga mice were divided into three groups: 10 mice were assigned to the control group (CTRL; no treatment), 10 mice to allergic rhinitis-induced (ARE) without treatment group, and 10 mice to the allergic rhinitis-induced (FGT) after Douchi Hataedock treatment group. The 3-week-old mice of the FGT group were given one 10 mg/kg dose of Douchi Hataedock extract and resensitized to allergic antigens at weeks four, five, and six. Allergic rhinitis was induced primarily in mice nasal cavities for five days after one week of final sensitization. The second induction used the same method one week after the first induction was completed. After one week, the nasal mucosal tissues of each group were observed. Immunohistochemical staining for IL-4, STAT6, CD40, $Fc{\varepsilon}RI$, substance P, MMP-9, $NF-{\kappa}B$ p65, p-IkB, and iNOS in the nasal mucosa was also performed. Results: The FGT group had less respiratory epithelial damage and less mucin secretion in goblet cells than the ARE group and showed a 62% decrease in IL-4, 85% decrease in STAT6, 71% decrease in CD40, 69% decrease in $Fc{\varepsilon}RI$, 43% decrease in substance P, 49% decrease in MMP-9, 43% decrease in NF-kB p65, 38% decrease in p-IkB, and 73% decrease in iNOS compared to the ARE group. Conclusions: Douchi Hataedock lessens inflammation in epithelial and goblet cells and reduces inflammatory mediator secretion in a mouse allergic rhinitis model.

Prediction of Heavy Metal Content in Compost Using Near-infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy

  • Since the application of relatively high levels of heavy metals in the compost poses a potential hazard to plants and animals, the content of heavy metals in the compost with animal manure is important to know if it is as a fertilizer. Measurement of heavy metals content in the compost by chemical methods usually requires numerous reagents, skilled labor and expensive analytical equipment. The objective of this study, therefore, was to explore the application of near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS), a nondestructive, cost-effective and rapid method, for the prediction of heavy metals contents in compost. One hundred and seventy two diverse compost samples were collected from forty-seven compost facilities located along the Han river in Korea, and were analyzed for Cr, As, Cd, Cu, Zn and Pb levels using inductively coupled plasma spectrometry. The samples were scanned using a Foss NIRSystem Model 6500 scanning monochromator from 400 to 2,500 nm at 2 nm intervals. The modified partial least squares (MPLS), the partial least squares (PLS) and the principal component regression (PCR) analysis were applied to develop the most reliable calibration model, between the NIR spectral data and the sample sets for calibration. The best fit calibration model for measurement of heavy metals content in compost, MPLS, was used to validate calibration equations with a similar sample set (n=30). Coefficient of simple correlation (r) and standard error of prediction (SEP) were Cr (0.82, 3.13 ppm), As (0.71, 3.74 ppm), Cd (0.76, 0.26 ppm), Cu (0.88, 26.47 ppm), Zn (0.84, 52.84 ppm) and Pb (0.60, 2.85 ppm), respectively. This study showed that NIRS is a feasible analytical method for prediction of heavy metals contents in compost.

  • Objectives: This research investigates the effect of the DHJHT extract on Alzheimer's disease. Specifically, the effects of the DHJHT extract on (1) the behavior (2) the infarction area of the hippocampus, and brain tissue injury in AD mice induced with ${\beta}A$ were investigated. Methods: The effects of the DHJHT extract on the proinflammation cytokines mRNA expression and production of BACE, APP and ${\beta}A$ in in BV2 microglial cell line treated by lipopolysacchaide(LPS) plus ${\beta}A$ were investigated. The effects of the DHJHT extract on the behavior of the memory deficit mice induced by scopolamine were investigated. Results: 1. The DHJHT extract suppressed the expression of IL-$1{\beta}$, IL-6, TNF-$\alpha$, COX-2, and NOS-II, BACE and APP mRNA in BV2 microglial cell line treated by LPS plus ${\beta}A$. 2. The DHJHT extract suppressed the expression of ${\beta}A$ production in BV2 microglial cell line treated with LPS plus ${\beta}A$. 3. The DHJHT extract showed significantly inhibitory effect on the scopolamine-induced impairment of memory in the experiment of Morris water maze. 4. The DHJHT group suppressed the expression of IL-$1{\beta}$, TNF-$\alpha$, MDA, and CD68+/CD11b+ in the brain tissue of the mice with AD induced by ${\beta}A$. 5. The DHJHT group reduced the infarction area of hippocampus, and controlled the injury of the brain tissue in the mice with AD induced by ${\beta}A$. 6. The DHJHT group reduced tau protein, and GFAP in the brain tissue of the mice with AD induced by ${\beta}A$. Conclusions: These results suggest that the DHJHT group may be effective for the treatment of AD. Thus, DHJHT could be considered among the future therapeutic drugs indicated for the treatment of AD.

GDI 602/Rubrene을 이용한 황색 OLED의 제작과 특성 분석 (Fabrication and Characterization of Yellow OLED using GDI602:Rubrene(10%) Material)

  • GDI602:Rubrene(10%) 형광 시스템을 이용하여 황색 발광 OLED를 제작하고 그 특성을 평가하였다. 소자 제작에서 ITO/glass 위에 정공 주입층으로 2-TNATA[4,4',4'-tris(2-naphthylphenyl-phenyl-amino)-triphenylamine]를, 정공 수송층으로 NPB[N,N'-bis(1-naphthyl)-N,N'-diphenyl-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4-diamine]를 진공 증착하였다. 황색 발광층으로는 GDI602를 호스트로, Rubrene를 도펀트로 사용하였다. 또한, 전자 수송층으로는 $Alq_{3}$를, 전자 주입층으로는 LiF를 사용하여 $ITO/2-TNATA/NPB/GDI602:Rubrene(10%)/Alq_{3}/LiF/Al$ 구조의 저분자 OLED를 제작하였다. 본 실험에서 제작된 황색 OLED는 562nm의 중심 발광 파장을 가지며, CIE(0.50, 0.49) 색순도, 그리고 10V의 동작전압에서 $2300\;Cd/m^{2}$ 휘도와 0.7 lm/W의 전력 효율을 나타내었다.

SiO2의 첨가를 통한 Polyfluorene계 Polymer-OLED의 발광 동작 개선 가능성 (Improved On-off Property of SiO2 Embedded Polyfluorene Polymer-OLED)

  • The effect of weak dielectric silicone dioxide($SiO_2$) embedded in polyfluorene(PFO) emitting layer of polymer-based multi structure OLED was investigated. Indium tin oxide(ITO)/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)/poly(9,9-di-n-octylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl)(PFO)/2,2,2"-(1,3,5-benzinetriyl)-tris(1-phenyl-1-H-benzimidazole) (TPBi)/aluminum(Al) structure OLED was fabricated by spin-coating method. Applied electric field causes some effect on $SiO_2$ in PFO layer. Thus, interaction between polymers and affected $SiO_2$ might generate electrical and luminance properties change. Experimental results, show the reduced threshold voltage of 6 V(from 23 V to 17 V). The maximum current density was rather increased from $71A/m^2$ to $610A/m^2$ and maximum brightness was also increased from $7.19cd/m^2$ to $41.03cd/m^2$, 9 and 6 times each. Additionally we obtained colour broadening result due to the increasing of blue-green band emission. Consequently we observed that electrical and luminance properties are enhanced by adding $SiO_2$ and identified the possibility of controlling the emission colour of OLED device according to colour broadening.

Fecal Calprotectin Assay at an Early Stage of Treatment Can Be Used as a Surrogate Marker to Predict Clinical Remission and Mucosal Healing in Pediatric Crohn's Disease

  • Purpose: This study evaluated the predictive role of fecal calprotectin (FC) measured at an early stage of treatment for monitoring clinical remission (CR) after six months and endoscopic remission (ER) after one year of treatment in pediatric Crohn's disease (CD). Methods: This retrospective study included 45 patients who simultaneously underwent ileocolonoscopy and FC testing during follow-up. FC levels were measured before and after six weeks of treatment. CR was assessed after six months of treatment using Pediatric Crohn' s Disease Activity Index and acute-phase reactants. ER was assessed after one year using the Simple Endoscopic Score for Crohn's Disease. Results: Twenty-nine (64.4%) patients used oral prednisolone for remission induction and 16 (35.6%) patients used anti-tumor necrosis factor-alpha. Thirty (66.7%) patients achieved CR, while 24 (53.3%) achieved ER. The FC level measured after six weeks of treatment could predict CR (χ2=9.15, p=0.0025) and ER (χ2=12.31, p=0.0004). The δFC could predict CR (χ2=7.91, p=0.0049), but not ER (χ2=1.85, p=0.1738). With a threshold of ≤950.4 ㎍/g, FC at week six could predict CR with 76.7% sensitivity and 73.3% specificity. The area under the curve (AUC) was 0.769 (standard error 0.0773, p=0.0005). The same threshold predicted ER with 87.5% sensitivity and 71.4% specificity. The AUC was 0.774 (standard error 0.074, p=0.0002). Conclusion: FC assay at an early stage of treatment can be used as a surrogate marker to predict CR and mucosal healing in pediatric CD.

A Retrospective Study of Radiographic Measurements of Small Breed Dogs with Myxomatous Mitral Valve Degeneration: A New Modified Vertebral Left Atrial Size

  • Vertebral left atrial size (VLAS) is an important indicator to predict myxomatous mitral valve degeneration (MMVD) in dogs. When the caudal margin of cardiac silhouette and the dorsal margin of caudal vena cava (CdVC) could not be seen exactly, another way to evaluate VLAS is needed. The objective of this study was to assess whether a new modified VLAS (m-VLAS) could be used as an indicator to predict MMVD in 57 small breed dogs with MMVD. The m-VLAS was also used to classify American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine staging groups and left heart enlargement confirmed with echocardiograph (EchoLHE) groups. The m-VLAS was measured as the distance from the ventral aspect of the carina to the dorsal aspect of the intersection of the cardiac silhouette and the farthest LA caudal margin, not the CdVC, followed by drawing the same line beginning at the cranial edge of T4. Based on VLAS values and m-VLAS values measured for dogs with MMVD, correlations between these values and left heart enlargement groups were then evaluated. There were significant differences in both the VLAS and the m-VLAS between EchoLHE groups. The AUC of the ROC curve of the m-VLAS to detect EchoLHE was higher than that of the VLAS. The optimal cutoff value for the m-VLAS was >2.7, which had a higher specificity (86.84%) than the VLAS specificity (71.05%). This study reveals that a new m-VLAS is a more specific indicator than the VLAS for predicting left side heart enlargement in small breed dogs. Therefore, the m-VLAS can be used as a clinically useful radiographic measurement alternative to or better than the VLAS.

소형 퇴비화용기에서 가정 음식물쓰레기의 퇴비화 과정 중 감량화 및 생산 퇴비의 물리화학적 특성 (Mass Reduction and Physicochemical Properties of the Produced Compost during Composting Domestic Food Wastes in a Small Composter)

  • 본 연구에서는 소형 퇴비화 용기의 최적 조건에서 미생물이나 퇴비화 보조제를 첨가하지 않고 가정에서 발생되는 음식물쓰레기를 매일 1 kg씩 투입하여 퇴비화를 진행하였다. 실험결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다; 퇴비화 진행과정 중 수분함량은 $51.04{\sim}53.45%$로 유지되었다. 질소는 퇴비화 진행과정에서 산화되어 암모니아성 질소 및 아질산성 질소로서 검출되지 않았다. Hemicellulose, Lignin은 시간의 경과에 따라 뚜렷한 경향을 나타내지 않았으나, Cellulose는 점차 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 중금속의 함량은 Cu, Cd, Pb, Hg, As는 검출되지 않았고 Cr은 $9.8{\sim}13.8$ mg/kg으로 부산물 비료의 기준치 300 mg/kg보다 낮았으며, Zn은 $25{\sim}100$ mg/kg이었다. 무기성분은 $P_2O_5$ $1.32{\sim}1.71%$, CaO $1.29{\sim}1.48%$, MgO $0.41{\sim}0.49%$, $K_2O$ $0.38{\sim}0.74%$로 퇴비화 과정 중 큰 변화가 없었다. 20일 동안 퇴비화한 후 무게 감소율은 습윤 기준 67.5%, 분해율은 48%이었다. 배출된 퇴비의 숙성도는 3등급이었다.

천연제올라이트와 제강전로슬래그를 이용한 세라믹 소재에 의한 산성폐수 내 중금속의 제거특성 (Removal Characteristics of Heavy Metals in Acid Wastewater by Ceramics Using Natural Zeolite and Converter Slag)

  • 천연제올라이트와 제강전로슬래그를 혼합 소성한 펠렛형 세라믹 소재(ZS 세라믹)를 이용하여 산성폐수 내 중금속의 제거특성 및 제거기작을 연구하고자 하였다. 세라믹 소재의 최적의 소성온도는 $600{\sim}800^{\circ}C$로 파악되었으며 소성시간에 따른 중금속 제거효율의 변화는 거의 나타나지 않았다. ZS 세라믹의 최적의 투여농도는 2~5%임을 알 수 있었고 최대의 중금속 제거능은 중금속별로 Al 84.7 mg/g, Cd 37.3 mg/g, Cr 81.7 mg/g, Cu 55.6 mg/g, Fe 57.2 mg/g, Mn 32.1 mg/g, Ni 38.0 mg/g, Pb 71.6 mg/g, Zn 46.3 mg/g로 나타났다. pH는 ZS 세라믹의 중금속 제거에 큰 영향을 미치는 인자로 파악되었다. ZS 세라믹에 의한 중금속의 제거 기작 실험을 통해 ZS 세라믹은 천연제올라이트에 의한 이온교환 및 흡착의 기작과 제강전로슬래그의 알칼리 공급에 의한 중화침전의 기작이 동시에 발생하는 중금속 처리제임을 확인 할 수 있었다.
