Purpose: Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disorder of the small intestine caused by an abnormal immune response to gluten proteins and is often characterized by gastrointestinal symptoms. Food allergy (FA) is an adverse immune sensitivity to ingested food proteins leading to inflammation in various organs including the gastrointestinal tract. The relationship between CD and FA remains unclear. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and clinical relevance of immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated food sensitization in children with CD. Methods: Fifty-nine children diagnosed with CD were reviewed for clinical symptoms and evidence of IgE-sensitization to food and airborne allergens using the PolyCheck method. Results: IgE-mediated sensitization has been diagnosed in 20.3% of children with CD (CD/A). In the CD/A group, 58.3% of children were sensitized to food and 66.7% to airborne allergens. Further, 41.7% of patients with CD and allergy reported gastrointestinal tract symptoms associated with the ingestion of sensitizing foods. Analysis of the clinical status revealed that the incidence of other allergic disorders in the CD/A group was as follows: atopic dermatitis (33.3%), asthma (25.0%), and allergic rhinitis (16.7%). The percentage of eosinophils was significantly higher in the CD/A group than in the CD group (0.33±0.25 vs. 0.11±0.09; p=0.006). Conclusion: The diagnosis of CD does not exclude FA. The gastrointestinal symptoms in children with CD may be the result of both CD and FA; therefore, children with CD should be evaluated for the presence of FA regardless of age.
Background: Interleukin-12 (IL-12) can induce antitumor effects in vivo. This antitumor effect is associated with T cell infiltration but the effect of IL-12 on the steps of T cell migration into the tumor tissue has not been fully elucidated. This study focused on the effect of IL-12 on the tumor growth and the metastasis and on the expression of E-selectin, an adhesion molecule which is activated endothelial specific in its expression. In addition, we studied whether the expression of E-selectin is associated with the TNF-$\alpha$, a cytokine that its production is increased by IL-12 and has functions inducing a variety of adhesion molecules. Methods: Mice of C57BL/6 strain were injected with Lewis lung cancer cells followed by either IL-12, TNF-$\alpha$, or normal saline by intraperitoneal route. Twenty eight days after tumor cell inoculation, metastatic nodules of lung were enumerated and immunohistochemical staining of the subcutaneous tumors were performed with monoclonal antibodies to CD4, CD8, CD16, and E-selectin. In IL-12 treated mice, the subcutaneously implanted Lewis lung tumors were decreased in size and the metastases were also decreased in number compared to control mice. On tumor tissues, increased infiltration of CD4+, CD8+, and CD16+ cells were oberved in IL-12 treated mice compared to control mice. In control mice, E-selectin was absent on tumor vessels, but the expression of E-selectin was increased on tumor vessels of IL-12 treated mice. Administration of TNF-$\alpha$ increased not only the expression of E-selectin but also infiltrations of CD4+, CD8+, and CD16+ cells on tumor tissues. Conclusions: These results demonstrate that IL-12 inhibits tumor growth and metastases through infiltrations of inflammatory cells in mouse model of Lewis lung carcinoma and E-selectin may playa role in inflammatory cell recruitment on tumor tissue following IL-12 administration. Also, TNF-$\alpha$ may have a role as a mediator responsible for the IL-12 induced expression of E-selectin.
It is generally accepted that parasite-specific IgE plays a crucial role in host defense against helminthic parasites. However, the role of high levels of nonspecific IgE in helminthic infections is still controversial. To investigate the role of nonspecific IgE in primary infections with P. westemani the effect of anti-lgE mAb treatment on serum IgE, $Fc{\varepsilon}RII/CD23$ expression and worm burden in Parcgonimus-infected mice were examined. In mice treated with anti-lgE antibody, the total IgE levels were not detectable ($1{\;}{\mu\textrm{g}/ml}$) throughout the experiment compared with untreated infected mice. The mean percentages of $Fc{\varepsilon}RII/CD23$ positive splenic B cells in anti-lgE treated mice (ridge: 20.3 - 30.5) were also decreased throughout the experiment compared with untreated infected mice (range: 35.7-44.4). Reduction of the total IgE and expression of $Fc{\varepsilon}RII/CD23$ on splenic B cells resulted in decreased worm burden six weeks post infection. These results suggest that high levels of nonspecific IgE in mice with primary infections of P. westemnni play a harmful, rather than beneficial, role for the host, perhaps by interfering with CD23-dependent cellular pathways.

To examine the effects of HHCP on atopic dermatitis and its various immunopathologic parameters was induced by DNCB in NC/Nga mice and the animals were orally administrated with HHCP. We summarized the results obtained from serum levels of IgE and the numbers of various immune cells as follow. HHCP has no cytotoxic effects at the range of concentration (1-400 ${\mu}g$/ml) on fibroblast isolated from lung of BALB/c mice. HHCP significantly lowered the serum levels of IgE compared with control at 16 and 20 week. HHCP significantly reduced the number of CD19$^+$ cell in spleen and DLN, as well as the number of B220$^+$ /IgE$^+$ cell in DLN compared with control. HHCP significantly reduced the number of ${\alpha}$${\beta}$ TCR$^+$ in spleen and DLN, the number of CD8$^+$ in spleen compared with control, and also significantly reduced the number of CD3$^+$, CCR3, CD3$^+$/CD69$^+$, CD3/ CCR3, CD4$^+$, CD3$^+$/ CD4$^+$/CD45$^+$ cell in DLN. HHCP increased the number of NK$^+$ cells in spleen compared with control, in contrast significantly decreased the number of CD11c$^+$/ Classll$^+$ cell and CD11b$^+$/Gr-1$^+$ cell in DLN. Taken together, these results suggested that HHCP has suppressive effects on atopic dermatitis through the inhibition of IgE production and modulation of immune cell population in NC/Nga mice.
Herein, CdS-coated PMMA nanoparticles were prepared by in-situ surfactant-free emulsion copolymerization and subsequent CdS coating process. As-prepared CdS/PMMA hybrid particles had 201.7 nm in diameter. The amount of CdS nanocrystals in the hybrid particles was 10.37 wt% determined by TGA and elemental analysis. The size of CdS crystals was 3.55 nm preferentially grown in (111) plane. UV-vis spectrum of PMMA/CdS nanoparticles showed the significant blue-shift in optical illumination. The reason was found because the synthesized CdS nanocrystals on PMMA particles had a different band gap energy of 2.70 eV which was significantly higher than that of known-value of bulk CdS (2.41 eV) due to a quantum confinement effect.
Tungsten oxide($WO_{3}$) is suitable to materials for photochromic window in the visible region. The resistivities of CdS, $WO_{3}$, and $WO_{3}$/CdS films prepared by thermal evaporation method were $4.61\times 10\^{3}$, $7.59\times10^{3}$, and $6.29\times10^{3}$$\omega$ cm. And x-ray diffraction patterns of CdS, $WO_{3}$/CdS films showed a preferred orientation of hexagonal(002), and the monoclinic(020) structure, respectively. The optical transmission were measured that the cut-on wavelength were 510nm, 380nm for CdS and $WO_{3}$ films respectively, and the transmission spectrum of $WO_{3}$/CdS was shifted into the visible region. Photoluminescence(PL) spectra showed the two peaks at 2.8 eV and 3.2 eV for the as-grown sample($WO_{3}$/CdS ($500{\AA}$), but the other sample($WO_{3}$/CdS ($1000{\AA}$)) had a peak energy value of 2.8 eV. The photochromism of $WO_{3}$/CdS films showed that the excitation of electron-hole pairs and subsequent coloration is shifted into visible-light range. And the spectral behavior of coloration turned out to be proportional to the excited electron-hole pairs creation rate of CdS film. This result is interpreted in terms of charge carrier injection from the CdS-layer into the $WO_{3}$ films. We found a value of about 2.8 eV of $WO_{3}$/CdS film which is somewhat higher than peak energy of 2.54 eV using CBD prepared by Bechinger et. al.

Purpose: E-cadherin and CD44H have been shown to play a role in the progression and the metastasis of tumors. This study evaluated the clinical correlations between expression of E-cadherin and CD44H and various clinicopathologic factors and the value of expressions of E-cadherin and CD44H as prognostic factors in Borrmann type IV gastric cancer. Materials and Methods: In 122 patients with Borrmann type IV gastric cancer, we performed the immunohistochemical stainings for E-cadherin and CD44H. We analyzed the correlation between the expressions of E-cadherin and CD44H and lymphatic invasion, venous invasion, perineural invasion, histologic type, lymph node metastasis, depth of invasion, stage, and peritoneal dissemination, and survival. Results: There were no correlations between reduced expression of E-cadherin and CD44H and lymphatic invasion, venous invasion, perineural invasion, histologic type, lymph node metastasis, depth of invasion, and stage. However, there was a significant correlation between lymph node metastasis and the lymphatic invasion (P=0.022). There was also a significant correlation between the peritoneal dissemination and CD44H expression (P=0.005). The 5-year survival rate was correlated with CD44H expression expression (P=0.026), peritoneal dissemination (P<0.01), depth of invasion (P<0.01), lymph node metastasis (P<0.01), stage of tumor (P<0.01), and lymphatic invasion (P<0.01). There was no correlation between expression of E-cadherin and survival rate. Conclusion: The expression of CD44H and peritoneal dissemination was correlated. The expression of CD44H was an independent prognostic factor in Borrmann type IV gastric cancer. Further prospective studies with a large number of cases are required.

Boron-doped CdS thin films were chemically deposited onto glass substrates. X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence (PL), and Raman techniques were used to evaluate the quality of B-doped CdS films. XRD results have confirmed that B-doped CdS films has a hexagonal structure with a preferential orientation of the (002) plane. The PL spectra for all samples consists of two prominent broad bands around 2.3 eV (green emission) and 1.6 eV (red emission) and the higher doping concentrations gradually decreased the green emission and red emission. Raman analysis has shown that undoped films have structure superior to those of B-doped CdS films. Boron doping into CdS films improved the optical transmittance and increased the optical band gap.
Genes encoding proteins responsible for limonene catabolism were cloned from a limonene-degrading microorganism, Enterobacter cowanii 6L, which was isolated from citron (Citrus junos) peel. The 8.6, 4.7, and 7.7 kb fragments (CD3, CD4, and CD6) of E. cowanii 6L chromosomal DNA that confer to E. coli the ability to grow on limonene have been cloned and their corresponding DNA sequences were determined. Nine open reading frames (ORFs) were identified, and the four ORFs (921 bp of CD3-2; 1,515 bp of CD4-1; 1,776 bp of CD6-1; and 1,356 bp of CD6-2) that encode limonene hydroxylase were confirmed by independently expressing these genes in E. coli. FAD and NADH were found to stimulate the hydroxylation reaction if added to cell extracts from E. coli recombinants, and multiple compounds (linalool, dihydrolinalool, perillyl alcohol, (${\alpha}-terpineol$, and ${\gamma}-terpineol$) were the principal products observed. Our results suggest that the isolate E. cowanii 6L has a broad metabolic capability including utilization of limonene. This broad metabolic ability was confirmed by identifying four novel limonene hydroxylase functional ORFs in E. cowanii 6L.

Objective: To explore the relationship between expressions of cell adhesion molecules CD44 v6 and E-cadherin (E-cad) and lymphatic metastasis in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Materials and Methods: Eightyseven tissue samples obtained from patients with primary NSCLC were collected in our hospital from Dec., 2007 to Dec., 2012, and the expressions of CD44 v6 and E-cad gene proteins in these samples were detected by immunohistochemical method. Results: In the tissue without lymphatic metastasis, the positive expression rate of CD44 v6 was significantly lower, whereas the normal expression rate of E-cad was notably higher than that with lymphatic metastasis (55.6% vs. 78.4%, 47.2% vs. 21.6%), and both differences had statistical significance (P<0.05). Besides, CD44 v6 and E-cad expressions had a significant correlation in the NSCLC tissue with lymphatic metastasis (P<0.05). Conclusions: The positive expression of CD44 v6 and abnormal expression of E-cad may play a very important role in promoting lymphatic metastasis of NSCLC, with synergistic effect. Hence, detection of CD44 v6 and E-cad expressions is conductive to judging the lymphatic metastasis in NSCLC.
