  • Moxibustion is a treatment method for cold and pain in Korean medicine. But the systematic study of moxibustion were very few. This study was aimed to survey and evaluate moxibustion study in Korean medicine. We search the moxibustion study in journals related Korean medicine and http://oasis.kiom.re.kr. The period of the study from first issue to August, 2010. The search word were moxibustion, moxa in keyword and moxibustion treatment in title. We totally search 334 articles. But 175 articles were excluded because this study were not exactly moxibustion study, so we included and analyzed 159 articles. The study of moxibustion were 159 articles. Literature review were 35 articles, systematic review 8, heat experiment 10, in vivo or vitro 28 and survey investigation 3. Clinical articles of moxibustion related to Korean medical journals were 76. Before and after study were 31 articles, case report 20, cohort study 7, cross-sectional study 2, nonrandomized study 6, quasi randomized study 1, randomized clinical trials 9. This results showed that moxibustion study were smaller than acupuncture or herb and concentrated to pain and cold syndrome. We need further larger and diverse study of moxibustion.

  • Objectives: The study evaluated efficacy of the Gigong program in health promotion service programs using oriental medicine. Methods: The data were collected from 31 female participants who completed the Gigongprogram from February to May of 2009 in Eumsung-Gun. The questionnaires to measure efficacy of the Gigong program were composed of demographic items, past history, family history, why they joined the program, satisfaction with the Gigong program, lipid profile, etc. The lipid profiles were collected before and after the Gigong program. Results: Satisfaction with the Gigong lectures and program was 88.4%. Improvement of daily life after the Gigong program was 92.2%. Mood and exercise habits of daily life significantly improved. Conclusions: From these results, the Gigong program is worthwhile for promoting health, so further study is needed to determine its efficacy.

  • One approach to reconstructing a damaged mandibular condyle is to replace it with a rib graft. This procedure requires removal of the lateral pterygoid muscle. The rib graft has significantly different shape and mechanical properties than the original condyle. These three factors can be expected to alter mandible (jaw) mechanics. We used voxel-based finite element methods to analysis both normal and a simulated reconstructed mandible using data from the US NIH Visible Human Female. Results demonstrated significant differences between normal and reconstructed mandible mechanics. The reconstructed mandible displaced more than the normal mandible. Stresses in the rib graft were 3 to 4 times higher than in a normal mandibular condyle. Stresses in the rest of the mandible were also higher in the reconstructed case. Further analyses are required to determine how each of the alterations in the reconstructed mandible contributes to the difference in reconstructed mandible mechanics.

  • This paper presents seasonal variation of $PM_{10}$ over five urban sites in Sabah, Malaysia for the period of January through December 2012. The variability of $PM_{10}$ along with the diurnal and weekly cycles of CO, $NO_2$, $SO_2$, and $O_3$ at Kota Kinabalu site were also discussed to investigate the possible sources for increased $PM_{10}$ concentration at the site. This work is crucial to understand the behaviour and possible sources of $PM_{10}$ in the urban atmosphere of Sabah region. In Malaysia, many air pollution studies in the past focused in west Peninsular, but very few local studies were dedicated for Sabah region. This work aims to fill the gap by presenting the descriptive statistics on the variability of $PM_{10}$ concentration in the urban atmosphere of Sabah. To further examine its diurnal and weekly cycle pattern, its responses towards the variations of CO, $NO_2$, $SO_2$, and ozone were also investigated. The highest mean value of $PM_{10}$ for the whole study period is seen from Tawau ($35.7{\pm}17.8{\mu}g\;m^{-3}$), while the lowest is from Keningau ($31.9{\pm}18.6{\mu}g\;m^{-3}$). The concentrations of $PM_{10}$ in all cities exhibited seasonal variations with the peak values occurred during the south-west monsoons. The $PM_{10}$ data consistently exhibited strong correlations with traffic related gaseous pollutants ($NO_2$, and CO), except for $SO_2$ and $O_3$. The analysis of diurnal cycles of $PM_{10}$ levels indicated that two peaks were associated during the morning and evening rush hours. The bimodal distribution of $PM_{10}$, CO, and $NO_2$ in the front and at the back of ozone peak is a representation of urban air pollution pattern. In the weekly cycle, higher $PM_{10}$, CO, and $NO_2$ concentrations were observed during the weekday when compared to weekend. The characteristics of $NO_2$ concentration rationed to CO and $SO_2$ suggests that mobile sources is the dominant factor for the air pollution in Kota Kinabalu; particularly during weekdays.
