In this study to assess chip breaking characteristics of cold-drawn free machining steels a newly developed non-dimensional parameter chip breaking index CB has been adopted. And for comparison with free machining steels chip breaking characteristics of conventional carbon steels were investigated. Properly controlled chips were produced with the CB value of 0.05-0.2 regardless of steel types. In case of cold-drawn free machining steels however cycle times of chip breaking are relatively shorter than those of conventional steels. And properly controlled chips were obtained from wider range of feed rate.

Purpose: This study compared 2 cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) systems in the detection of mechanically simulated peri-implant buccal bone defects in dry human mandibles. Materials and Methods: Twenty-four implants were placed in 7 dry human mandibles. Peri-implant bone defects were created in the buccal plates of 16 implants using spherical burs. All mandibles were scanned using 2 CBCT systems with their commonly used acquisition protocols: i-CAT Gendex CB-500 (Imaging Sciences, Hatfield, PA, USA; field of view [FOV], 8 cm×8 cm; voxel size, 0.125 mm; 120 kVp; 5 mA; 23 s) and Orthopantomograph OP300 (Intrumentarium, Tuusula, Finland; FOV, 6 cm×8 cm; voxel size, 0.085 mm; 90 kVp; 6.3 mA; 13 s). Two oral and maxillofacial radiologists assessed the CBCT images for the presence of a defect and measured the depth of the bone defects. Diagnostic performance was compared in terms of the area under the curve (AUC), accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and intraclass correlation coefficient. Results: High intraobserver and interobserver agreement was found (P<0.05). The OP300 showed slightly better diagnostic performance and higher detection rates than the CB-500 (AUC, 0.56±0.03), with a mean accuracy of 75.0%, sensitivity of 81.2%, and specificity of 62.5%. Higher contrast was observed with the CB-500, whereas the OP300 formed more artifacts. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, the present results suggest that the choice of CBCT systems with their respective commonly used acquisition protocols does not significantly affect diagnostic performance in detecting and measuring buccal peri-implant bone loss.

This study was performed to increase the accuracy of genomic estimated breeding value (GEBV) predictions for domestic pigs using single-breed and admixed reference populations (single-breed of Berkshire pigs [BS] with cross breed of Korean native pigs and Landrace pigs [CB]). The principal component analysis (PCA), linkage disequilibrium (LD), and genome-wide association study (GWAS) were performed to analyze the population structure prior to genomic prediction. Reference and test population data sets were randomly sampled 10 times each and precision accuracy was analyzed according to the size of the reference population (100, 200, 300, or 400 animals). For the BS population, prediction accuracy was higher for all economically important traits with larger reference population size. Prediction accuracy was ranged from -0.05 to 0.003, for all traits except carcass weight (CWT), when CB was used as the reference population and BS as the test. The accuracy of CB for backfat thickness (BF) and shear force (SF) using admixed population as reference increased with reference population size, while the results for CWT and muscle pH at 24 hours after slaughter (pH) were equivocal with respect to the relationship between accuracy and reference population size, although overall accuracy was similar to that using the BS as the reference.
PURPOSE. This in vitro study aimed to compare the failure load and failure characteristics of two different zirconia framework designs of premolar crowns when subjected to static loading. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Two types of zirconia frameworks, conventional 0.5 mm even thickness framework design (EV) and 0.8 mm cutback of full contour crown anatomy design (CB), were made for 10 samples each. The veneer porcelain was added on under polycarbonate shell crown made by vacuum of full contour crown to obtain the same total thickness of the experiment crowns. The crowns were cemented onto the Cobalt-Chromium die. The dies were tilted 45 degrees from the vertical plane to obtain the shear force to the cusp when loading. All crowns were loaded at the lingual incline of the buccal cusp until fracture using a universal testing machine with cross-head speed 0.5 mm/min. The load to fracture values (N) was recorded and statistically analyzed by independent sample t-test. RESULTS. The mean and standard deviations of the failure load were $1,170.1{\pm}90.9$ N for EV design and $1,450.4{\pm}175.7$ N for CB design. A significant difference in the compressive failure load was found (P<.05). For the failure characteristic, the EV design was found only cohesive failures within veneering porcelain, while the CB design found more failures through the zirconia framework (8 from 10 samples). CONCLUSION. There was a significant difference in the failure load between two designs, and the design of the framework influences failure characteristic of zirconia crown.
In the present study, effects of concentration of cryoprotectant solutions on the nuclear maturation of vitrified-thawed porcine oocytes were examined. Also, the developmental capacity of vitrified-thawed immature porcine oocytes following ICSI was investigated. Oocytes were cultured in NCSU-23 medium supplemented with 5% FBS at $38^{\circ}C$ in 5% $CO_2$ and air. The in vitro maturation rate of vitrified-thawed oocytes ($24.1{\pm}2.5%$) was lower than that of the control ($46.0{\pm}3.2%$, p<0.05). The in vitro maturation rate of vitrified-thawed oocytes treated with $1.0{\sim}5.0\;ug$ CB + NCSU- 23 medium were $22.2{\pm}3.0%$, $30.7{\pm}3.2$, $46.3{\pm}3.1%$, $38.5{\pm}3.2%$, respectively. The in vitro maturation rate ($46.3{\pm}3.4%$) of the vitrified-thawed oocytes treated with $3.0\;{\mu}g$ CB for 30 min was the highest of all vitrification groups. When the in vitro developmental rates of the vitrified-thawed (with EDS and EDT) oocytes following ICSI were $18.5{\pm}2.5%$, $16.4{\pm}2.1%$, respectively. This results were lower than the control group ($24.0{\pm}2.5%$).
Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the effects of dynamic balance training on pain, physical function, and dynamic balance in individuals with knee osteoarthritis. Methods: Fourteen patients with knee osteoarthritis participated in this study. The patients were randomly assigned to two groups: an experimental group (n=7) or a control group (n=7). All the patients took part in a lower extremity strength program for 30 min. In addition, the experimental group participated in a 30-min dynamic balance program. Both groups performed the program five times a week for 3 weeks. Outcomes, including the numeric rating scale (NRS), Western Ontario and MacMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC), and Community Balance and Mobility Scale (CB&M), were measured at baseline and after 3 weeks. Results: Both groups showed pre-to-post intervention improvements on all outcome measures (p<0.05). The experimental group showed a significant improvement in WOMAC (p = 0.00; Z = -2.82) and CB&M (p = 0.03; Z = -2.20) scores after the intervention as compared with those of the control group. Conclusion: The results revealed that dynamic balance training improved physical function, as well as balance ability, in patients with knee osteoarthritis as compared with that of a control group with no balance training.
The frequencies of gamma-ray-induced micronuclei (MN) in cytokinesis-blocked (CB) lymphocytes at several doses were measured in three donors of Korean native cattle and Korean native goat. Measurements performed after irradiation showed a dose-related increases in MN frequency in each of the donors studied. When analysed by linear-quadratic model the line of best fit was cattle : y : 0.1016D +$0.0118D^2$+0.0147, goat : y = 0.1353D +$0.0043D^2$+0.0087 (y : number of MN/CB cells and D = irradiation dose in Gy). The relative sensitivity of goat lymphocytes compared with cattle lymphocytes was estimated by best fitting linear-quadratic model based on the radiation-induced MN data over the range from 0 Gy to 4 Gy. In the case of MN frequency with 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.8, the relative sensitivities of goat lymphocytes were 1.106. 1.166. 1.140, 1.069 and 0.976 respectively. Our in vitro radiobiological study confirmed that the cytogenetic response obtained in blood from cattle and goat can be utilized for application in environmental studies.
The objective of this study was to evaluate monthly variation in semen characteristics in Black Bedouin and Black Bedouin${\times}$Damascus crossbred bucks. Twenty one Black Bedouin Goat bucks (BG) and 20 $F_1$ Black Bedouin${\times}$Damascus crossbred goat bucks (CB) were used in the study. Animals were 2 to 5 years old at the beginning of the study. Body weight (BW), body condition score (BCS), scrotal circumference (SC) and semen samples were evaluated monthly for all bucks. Body weight, BCS and SC differed according to month of collection (p<0.0001). Body weight and BCS were greater in the spring and summer months while SC reached their highest values during the autumn months. No differences were detected between breeds with respect to semen characteristics with the exception of ejaculate volume (p<0.05) and ejaculate appearance (p=0.053) which were greater in CB than in BG bucks. With the exception of ejaculate appearance, all semen characteristics were influenced by month of collection (p<0.05). Semen concentration and motility were better during the late summer and autumn months than during the spring. The percentage of abnormal spermatozoa declined from its greatest values in the spring to its lowest values in the autumn. Results of the present study show no effects of goat breed on most of the studied parameters. In general, most semen quality parameters were better in both breeds during the autumn than the spring months. Minimal variation in semen quality was observed between the summer and autumn months indicating the ability to use bucks for semen collection and for natural breeding during both of these seasons.
In the present study, effects of concentration of cryoprotectant solutions on the nuclear maturation of vitrifiedthawed bovine oocytes were examined. Also, the developmental capacity of vitrified-thawed immature oocytes following ICSI was investigated. Oocytes were cultured in TCM-199 medium supplemented with 5% FBS at $38^{\circ}$C in 5% $CO_2$ and air. The in vitro maturation rate of vitrified oocytes was 24.5 ${\pm}$ 4.2%. The in vitro maturation rate of vitrified oocytes was lower than that of the control (72.0 ${\pm}$ 3.5%, p<0.05). The in vitro maturation rate of vitrified${\sim}$thawed oocytes incubated in TCM-199 medium supplemented with 1.0${\sim}$5.0 ug CB were 26.7 ${\pm}$ 3.2%, 35.7 ${\pm}$ 3.2%, 54.0 ${\pm}$ 3.0%, 42.5 ${\pm}$ 3.6%, respectively. The in vitro maturation rate (57.0 ${\pm}$ 3.0%) of the vitrified-thawed oocytes treated with 3.0 ${\mu}$g CB for 20 min was the highest of all vitrification groups, although the maturation rate were significantly (p<0.05) lower than those of fresh oocytes. The in vitro maturation rates of the vitrified-thawed (with EDS and EDT) oocytes were 53.8 ${\pm}$ 3.4%, 51.1 ${\pm}$ 3.5%, respectively. This results were lower than the control group (72.0 ${\pm}$ 3.0%). The in vitro developmental rates of the vitrified-thawed oocytes following ICSI were 28.6 ${\pm}$ 4.5%, 25.6 ${\pm}$ 4.3%, respectively. This results were lower than the control group (40.0 ${\pm}$ 4.0%).
Rice straw is the main grain straw and is produced in large quantities every year in Korea. Pretreatment of lignocellulosic biomass using soaking process was carried out mild conditions at atmospheric pressure and temperature of $60^{\circ}C$. We found enzymatic hydrolysis condition of pretreated biomass. In case of a rice straw, compared with previous lignocellulosic biomass, we found that hydrolysis time was a shorter than others. Hydrolysis of SAA-treated rice straw has shown conversion rate was higher at $50^{\circ}C$. Hydrolysis was ended between 40~48 hour. Glucose conversion rate was higher when enzyme loading is 65 FPU/ml and 32 CbU/ml. When substrate concentration was 5%(w/v), it was that conversion rate was 83.8% after hydrolysis for 72 hr. In simultaneous saccharification and fermentation(SSF) experiment about SAA-treated rice straw, ethanol productive yield was highest from $40^{\circ}C$. The yield of that time was 33.05% from 48 hour.
