A CAD/CAM System for Axisymmetric Deep Drawing Processes (축대칭 디프-드로잉 공정의 CAD/CAM 시스템)

  • In this study, a CAD/CAM system for axisymmetric deep drawing processes has been developed. An approach to the system is based on the knowledge based system. Under the environment of CAD/CAM software of Personal Designer, the system has been written in UPL. The geometries of intermediate and final object in deep drawing process, including processes parameters are input for the CAD/CAM system. The input data can be obtained from the results of Pro_Deep. The parts drawing of die sets for each process is generated in tool design module of the CAD/CAM system. Also. the die assembly drawings can be obtained. NC commands for machining of the part can be generated in the developed CAD/CAM system.

  • Developed in this reseach is a CAM system for 5-axis NC Machining of sculpture surfaces. We identify problems in generating 5-axis NC data and propose methods of overcoming them. Issues discussed in this report are; kinematic modelling of NC machines; Determination of cutter position(location and orientation); check of machine work-range; linear trajectory planning; calculation of feedrate number. The proposed system has been implemented in FORTRAN77 on the Personal IRIS EWS, and it also consitutes a module of the CAD/CAM system 'CASSETTE' developed in KIST CAD/CAM lab..

  • This paper discusses a method to generate the tool path for NC machining of automobile panel dies. The source data representing a panel die may be generated from digitizing machines, other CAD/CAM systems via IGES files, of compound surface models. From the source data, three types of interferencefree tool paths are generated automatically ; a parallel (Cartesian), an isometric, and a pencil cutting tool path. For the interference-free tool path, a polyhedral model composed of several triangles, and an 'offset triangle' approach are exploited. Finally, some practical examples are illustrated.

  • Cylindrical Cam Mechanism is widely used in the fields of industries, such as machine tool exchangers, textile machinery. This paper proposes a method for manufacturing of cylindrical cam in Multi CNC machining center. Multi CNC machining center has two different types depending on the tilting axis. For the manufacturing procedures. in this paper the location and the orientation of cutter path are defined from shape design data of cam. The integral NC code fur the both types of multi-axis CNC machining center can be created using the coordinates mapping between design coordinates and work coordinates. Finally, CAD/CAM program is developed on $C^{++}$ language. This program can display manufacturing and kinematics simulation, which can make integral NC code for multi-axis CNC machining center of two types.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a CAD/CAM system for generation of designing and manufacturing information such as total drawing sub-assembly drawing, part drawing detail drawing part list and NC data for machining by CNC lathe were CUT machining center. Through this study the CAD/CAM system for deep drawing transfer die in mechanical press process has been developed The developed CAD system can generate the drawings of transfer die in mechanical press. Using these results from CAD system. it can generate NC data to machine die's elements on the CAD system. This system can reduce design man-hours and human errors. In order to construct the system it is used to automate the design process using knowledge base system. The developed system is based on the knowledge base system which is involved a lot of expert's empirical knowhow in the practice field. Using AutoLISp language under the Auto CAD system. CTK customer language of SmartCAM is used as the overall CAD/CAM environment. Results of this system will be provide effective aids to the designer and manufacturer in this field

  • The straight bevel gear for automobile part has been manufactured by the cold forging instead of the gear machining tool for the mass production. The application to CAD/CAM system has been necessary in order to develop the precision product quickly by forging through the minimization of trial and error and confirm the reproducibility. In the study, the straight bevel gear with the crown teeth has been modelled by the CAD/CAM system. The master gear after the gearing test has been machined after the modelling, NC data generation and verification. The die for forging and the jig for machining has been manufactured using the master gear.

  • Five-axis NC machining is advanced machining technology by which highly geometrically complicated parts can be machined accurately with high machinability. In this paper, we investigate the problems of determining the machinability and part setup orientation for a given surface models. We first develop kinematic model of the five-axis machines based on the axis configuration, then develop algorithms for determining the feasibility of machining by one setup(machinability) and the part orientation for the C,A and A,B type configuration. The machinability is determined by computationally efficient procedure for finding the intersection between the feasible area on the sphere and the numerical map called binary spherical map(BSM), and the part setup is chosen such that the rotational range is minimized among the feasible configurations. The developed algorithms are tested by numerical simulations, convincing they can be readily implemented on the CAD/CAM system as an automated process planner giving the efficient machine type and setup for NC machining.

Development of a CAM Software for Hole Machining of Dies (금형의 구멍가공을 위한 CAM 소프트웨어 개발)

  • There are many types of holes to be machined on dies manufactured in the car industry. In this paper we introduce a CAM software developed for hole machining of press dies. The CAM software automatically generates NC files for machining holes from CAD data modeled in the CATIA system. A procedure generating NC files consists of three steps. First, the geometric information such as types of holes, hole positions, hole diameters, and hole depths is extracted from CATIA models. And then tools to be used and operation orders are standardized to establish a data base. Finally, NC files are generated by considering the machining conditions such as feedrate and rpm. It is efficient that holes with the same type and the same size should be grouped and machined by a tool to reduce the tool change time. The optimal tool path for machining the holes in a group can be determined by applying an algorithm solving the traveling salesman problem.
