Construction stages analyses using time dependent material properties of concrete arch dams

  • This paper presents the effects of the construction stages using time dependent material properties on the structural behaviour of concrete arch dams. For this purpose, a double curvature Type-5 arch dam suggested in "Arch Dams" symposium in England in 1968 is selected as a numerical example. Finite element models of Type-5 arch dam are modelled using SAP2000 program. Geometric nonlinearity is taken into consideration in the construction stage analysis using P-Delta plus large displacement criterion. In addition, the time dependent material strength variations and geometric variations are included in the analysis. Elasticity modulus, creep and shrinkage are computed for different stages of the construction process. In the construction stage analyses, a total of 64 construction stages are included. Each stage has generally $6000m^3$ concrete volume. Total duration is taken into account as 1280 days. Maximum total step and maximum iteration for each step are selected as 200 and 50, respectively. The structural behaviour of the arch dam at different construction stages has been examined. Two different finite element analyses cases are performed. In the first case, construction stages using time dependent material properties are considered. In the second case, only linear static analysis (not considered construction stages) is taken into account. Variation of the displacements and stresses are obtained from the both analyses. It is highlighted that construction stage analysis using time dependent material strength variations and geometric variations has an important effect on the structural behaviour of arch dams. The maximum longitudinal, transverse and vertical displacements obtained from construction stages and static analyses are 1.35 mm and 0 mm; -8.44 and 6.68 mm; -4.00 and -9.90 mm, respectively. In addition, vertical displacements increase from the base to crest of the dam for both analyses. The maximum S11, S22 and S33 stresses are obtained as 1.60MPa and 2.84MPa; 1.39MPa and 2.43MPa; 0.60MPa and 0.50MPa, respectively. The differences between maximum longitudinal, transverse, and vertical stresses obtained from construction stage and static analyses are 78%, 75%, and %17, respectively. On the other hand, there is averagely 12% difference between minimum stresses for all three directions.

A neural-based predictive model of the compressive strength of waste LCD glass concrete

  • The Taiwanese liquid crystal display (LCD) industry has traditionally produced a huge amount of waste glass that is placed in landfills. Waste glass recycling can reduce the material costs of concrete and promote sustainable environmental protection activities. Concrete is always utilized as structural material; thus, the concrete compressive strength with a variety of mixtures must be studied using predictive models to achieve more precise results. To create an efficient waste LCD glass concrete (WLGC) design proportion, the related studies utilized a multivariable regression analysis to develop a compressive strength waste LCD glass concrete equation. The mix design proportion for waste LCD glass and the compressive strength relationship is complex and nonlinear. This results in a prediction weakness for the multivariable regression model during the initial growing phase of the compressive strength of waste LCD glass concrete. Thus, the R ratio for the predictive multivariable regression model is 0.96. Neural networks (NN) have a superior ability to handle nonlinear relationships between multiple variables by incorporating supervised learning. This study developed a multivariable prediction model for the determination of waste LCD glass concrete compressive strength by analyzing a series of laboratory test results and utilizing a neural network algorithm that was obtained in a related prior study. The current study also trained the prediction model for the compressive strength of waste LCD glass by calculating the effects of several types of factor combinations, such as the different number of input variables and the relevant filter for input variables. These types of factor combinations have been adjusted to enhance the predictive ability based on the training mechanism of the NN and the characteristics of waste LCD glass concrete. The selection priority of the input variable strategy is that evaluating relevance is better than adding dimensions for the NN prediction of the compressive strength of WLGC. The prediction ability of the model is examined using test results from the same data pool. The R ratio was determined to be approximately 0.996. Using the appropriate input variables from neural networks, the model validation results indicated that the model prediction attains greater accuracy than the multivariable regression model during the initial growing phase of compressive strength. Therefore, the neural-based predictive model for compressive strength promotes the application of waste LCD glass concrete.

식품 중 잔류동물용의약품의 안전관리 (Management of Veterinary Drug Residues in Food)

  • 동물용의약품은 가축의 질병예방 및 치료, 성장 촉진 등 생산성을 높이는 목적으로 사용되는 의약품임에도 불구하고 무분별하게 과용 또는 남용되면 축 수산물에 잔류하게 되고 장기간 노출될 경우 인체에 유해할 수 있기 때문에 관리가 필요한 물질이다. 국내 동물용의약품의 관리는 국립수의과학 검역원에서 국내 사용되는 동물용의약품의 허가를 담당하고 있으며, 식품의약품안전청은 해당 동물용의약품의 잔류자료, 일일섭취허용량, 식품섭취량 및 국민평균체중 등을 이용하여 위해평가를 실시하고 그에 알맞은 잔류허용기준을 고시하고 있다. 현재 국내의 동물용의약품에 대한 잔류허용기준은 116 개가 고시되어 있으며, 2009년 말까지 총 142종에 대하여 기준이 설정될 예정이다. 또한 2010년 1월 1일부터 축 수산물 (유, 알 포함) 및 벌꿀에서 기준 미설정 항생제 및 합성항균제가 검출될 경우 0.03 mg/kg의 일률기준을 적용함으로써 축 수산물에 대한 안전관리가 강화하게 된다. 현재 동물용의 약품의 기준관리는 이미 선진국 수준으로 운영되고 있으며, 잔류분석법도 또한 국제적 수준에 맞게 개선할 예정이다.

QuEChERS법을 활용한 농산물 중 제초제 Tolpyralate의 최적 분석법 선발 및 검증 (Application and Validation of an Optimal Analytical Method using QuEChERS for the determination of Tolpyralate in Agricultural Products)

  • BACKGROUND: Pesticides are broadly used to control weeds and pests, and the residues remaining in crops are managed in accordance with the MRLs (maximum residue limits). Therefore, an analytical method is required to quantify the residues, and we conducted a series of analyses to select and validate the quick and simple analytical method for tolpyralate in five agricultural products using QuEChERS (quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged and safe) method and LC-MS/MS (liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry). METHODS AND RESULTS: The agricultural samples were extracted with acetonitrile followed by addition of anhydrous magnesium sulfate, sodium chloride, disodium hydrogencitrate sesquihydrate and trisodium citrate dihydrate. After shaking and centrifugation, purification was performed with d-SPE (dispersive-solid phase extraction) sorbents. To validate the optimized method, its selectivity, linearity, LOD (limit of detection), LOQ (limit of quantitation), accuracy, repeatability, and reproducibility from the inter-laboratory analyses were considered. LOQ of the analytical method was 0.01 mg/kg at five agricultural products and the linearity of matrix-matched calibration were good at seven concentration levels, from 0.0025 to 0.25 mg/L (R2≥0.9980). Mean recoveries at three spiking levels (n=5) were in the range of 85.2~112.4% with associated relative standard deviation values less than 6.2%, and the coefficient of variation between the two laboratories was also below 13%. All optimized results were validated according to the criteria ranges requested in the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) and Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) guidelines. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, we suggest that the selected and validated method could serve as a basic data for detecting tolpyralate residue in imported and domestic agricultural products.

5ZrSiO4-xCaCO3 혼합계에서 CaCO3첨가량이 CaZrO3와 m-ZrO2의 합성 및 미세구조변화에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Addition Amount of CaCO3on the Synthesizing behavior and Microstructural Evolution of CaZrO3 and m-ZrO2 in 5ZrSiO4-xCaCO3 Mixture System)

  • Synthesizing behavior and microstructural evolution of $CaZrO_3$and $m-ZrO_2$in a thermal reaction process of $ZrSiO_4$-$xCaCO_3$mixtures, where x is 7 and 19, were investigated to determine the addition amount of CaO in CaO:$ZrO_2$:$SiO_2$ternary composition. CaZrO$_3$-Ca$_2$SiO$_4$precursor prepared by the mixture of $ZrSiO_4$and CaCO$_3$in aqueous suspending media was controlled to the acidic (pH=4.0) condition with HCI solution to enhance the thermal reaction. The addition amount of dispersant into the $ZrSiO_4$-$xCaCO_3$slip increased with increasing mole ratio of $CaCO_3$, which was associated with the viscosity of slip. Decarbonation reaction was activated with an increase of the addition amount of $CaCO_3$, showing different final temperatures in $ZrSiO_4$-$7CaCO_3$and $ZrSiO_4$-$19CaCO_3$mixtures as about 980 and 116$0^{\circ}C$, respectively, for finishing decarbonation reaction. The grain morphology was changed to spherical shape for all samples with an increase of sintering temperature. The grain size and phase composition of the synthesized composites depended on the mixture ratio of Zrsi04 and CacO3 powders, indicating that the main crystals were m-ZrO2 ($\leq$3 $\mu\textrm{m}$) and $CaZrO_3$ ($\leq$ 7 $\mu\textrm{m}$) in $ZrSiO_4$$>-7CaCO_3$and $ZrSiO_4$-$19CaCO_3$mixtures, respectively.

농산물 중 메펜트리플루코나졸 및 트리티코나졸 살균제의 동시 분석법 개발 및 검증 (Development and Validation of a Simultaneous Analytical Method for the Detection of Mefentrifluconazole and Triticonazole Fungicide in Agricultural Crops)

  • BACKGROUND: Mefentrifluconazole and triticonazole are the triazole fungicides. The maximum residue levels for agricultural products need to be set up. Therefore, development of the official analytical method for determination of mefentrifluconazole and triticonazole residues from agricultural crops was necessary due to safety management, and then a simultaneous analytical method was developed for the determination of mefentrifluconazole and triticonazole in agricultural crops. METHODS AND RESULTS: Samples were extracted using acetonitrile and purified using dispersive solid phase extraction, and then detected with liquid chromatograph-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Matrix-matched calibration curves (0.0025-0.25 ㎍/mL) were linear into a sample extract with r2>0.99. For validation, the recovery test was carried out at three fortification levels (LOQ, 10 LOQ and 50 LOQ) from agricultural samples. The results for mefentrifluconazole and triticonazole ranged between 92.3 to 115.3% and 91.4 to 108.5%, respectively and RSD (relative standard deviation) values were also below 6.0%. Furthermore, inter-laboratory was conducted to validate the method. CONCLUSION: All values were corresponded with the criteria ranges requested by both the CODEX (CAC/GL 40-1993, 2003) and MFDS guidelines (2016). Therefore, the proposed method can be used as an official analytical method for determination of mefentrifluconazole and triticonazole (triazole fungicides) in the Republic of Korea.

Spatial dispersion of aggregate in concrete a computer simulation study

  • Experimental research revealed that the spatial dispersion of aggregate grains exerts pronounced influences on the mechanical and durability properties of concrete. Therefore, insight into this phenomenon is of paramount importance. Experimental approaches do not provide direct access to three-dimensional spacing information in concrete, however. Contrarily, simulation approaches are mostly deficient in generating packing systems of aggregate grains with sufficient density. This paper therefore employs a dynamic simulation system (with the acronym SPACE), allowing the generation of dense random packing of grains, representative for concrete aggregates. This paper studies by means of SPACE packing structures of aggregates with a Fuller type of size distribution, generally accepted as a suitable approximation for actual aggregate systems. Mean free spacing $\bar{\lambda}$, mean nearest neighbour distance (NND) between grain centres $\bar{\Delta}_3$, and the probability density function of ${\Delta}_3$ are used to characterize the spatial dispersion of aggregate grains in model concretes. Influences on these spacing parameters are studied of volume fraction and the size range of aggregate grains. The values of these descriptors are estimated by means of stereological tools, whereupon the calculation results are compared with measurements. The simulation results indicate that the size range of aggregate grains has a more pronounced influence on the spacing parameters than exerted by the volume fraction of aggregate. At relatively high volume density of aggregates, as met in the present cases, theoretical and experimental values are found quite similar. The mean free spacing is known to be independent of the actual dispersion characteristics (Underwood 1968); it is a structural parameter governed by material composition. Moreover, scatter of the mean free spacing among the serial sections of the model concrete in the simulation study is relatively small, demonstrating the sample size to be representative for composition homogeneity of aggregate grains. The distribution of ${\Delta}_3$ observed in this study is markedly skew, indicating a concentration of relatively small values of ${\Delta}_3$. The estimate of the size of the representative volume element (RVE) for configuration homogeneity based on NND exceeds by one order of magnitude the estimate for structure-insensitive properties. This is in accordance with predictions of Brown (1965) for composition and configuration homogeneity (corresponding to structure-insensitive and structure-sensitive properties) of conglomerates.

Flow-Aware Network에서 QoS제어를 위해 Flow 특성에 따른 대역할당 방법과 특성 (Characteristics and Methods of Bandwidth Allocation According to Flow Features for QoS Control on Flow-Aware Network)

  • 오늘날 인터넷에서는 실시간 및 비실시간 등 다양한 멀티미디어 서비스가 존재하고 있으며, 이러한 개개의 서비스 특성을 만족 시키는 데는 한계가 있다. 따라서 서비스의 QoS를 보장하기 위한 한 방법으로 flow-aware 네트워킹 개념을 갖는 네트워크를 제안하고 있다. 인터넷에서 네트워크 이용율 향상과 통계적으로 서비스 보장을 위해 MBAC(Measurement-Based Admission Control) 방식이 연구되었다. 대부분의 MBAC 방식은 집합 flow에 대해 적용하는 총체적 MBAC 알고리즘이며, 입력 flow에 적용하는 per-flow MBAC 알고리즘이 최근 연구되기 시작하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 per-flow MBAC 알고리즘 기반 시스템에서 flow를 특성에 따라 그룹핑하고, 각 그룹핑된 flow에서 먼저 입력되는 flow에 우선순위를 주는 DPS(Dynamic Priority Scheduling)알고리즘 적용한다. 그리고 각 그룹핑된 그룹에 일정대역을 고정 할당한 다음에 그룹 인접대역간 대역폭 차용이 가능한 우선등급 하위대역 차용방식과 각 그룹핑된 flow에 그룹핑된 flow 특성에 따라 대역을 동적으로 할당하는 동적 대역할당 방식을 제안한다. 제안한 두 방식을 시뮬레이션을 통해 서비스 지속성, 링크 이용율, 지연 특성을 평가 분석한다. 그 결과 제시한 방식이 기존의 방식보다 우수하고, 다양한 멀티미디어 환경에서 더 효율적 방식이라는 것을 분명히 한다.

HPLC-UVD를 이용한 농산물 중 pyrifluquinazon 잔류시험법 개발 및 검증 (Development and validation of analytical methods for pyrifluquinazon residues determination on agricultural commodities by HPLC-UVD)

  • Pyrifluquinazon은 quinazoline 계통의 살충제로 진딧물, 흰파리 등 해충에 대해 음식섭취를 조절하는 신경계 또는 내분비계에 작용하여 섭식행동을 제어하고 또한 식물조직에 추가적 손상을 방지, 식물체 바이러스 확산을 막는 역할을 한다. 국내에는 2012년 사과와 배에 신규 사용등록되어 식품의약품안전처에서 잔류허용기준을 설정하였다. 본 농약은 분자량이 464.3으로 큰 편이며, 증기압이 낮아 분석을 위한 기기로 HPLC-UVD를 선택하여 잔류허용기준 준수여부 확인을 위한 시헙법을 확립하였다. 추출용매는 간섭물질의 추출이 비교적 적은 acetonitrile을 사용하였으며, pyrifluquinazon의 Log $P_{ow}$값이 3.12로 극성에 가까운 물리화학적 특성을 감안하여 액-액 분배를 위한 용매로 dichloromethane을 사용하였다. 간섭물질 제거를 위한 clean-up과정에서는 silica 카트리지를 사용하였고, acetone으로 용출하여 최적의 정제조건을 확립하였다. 분석 결과 회수율은 70~120%로 나타났으며, 분석오차는 10% 미만, 실험실간 편차 ($RSD_R$(%)) > 0.01 mg/kg, ${\leq}$0.1 mg/kg 범위에서 3.40~15.4%로 코덱스 가이드라인 기준에 적합함을 확인 하였다. 또한 본 시험법의 재현성 및 선택성을 추가로 확보할 수 있도록 LC-MS를 통한 정성시험법을 추가로 확립하였다. 본 시험법은 신규 등록된 pyrifluquinazon 분석을 위한 신속 정확한 공정 시험법으로 식품공전에 등재되어 활용되고 있다.

LC-MS/MS 및 GC-MS/MS를 활용한 수산물 중 디아제팜의 정량분석법 개발 (Development of the Analytical Method for Diazepam in Fishery Products using Liquid and Gas Chromatography-tandem Mass Spectrometry)

  • 본 연구는 국내 생산 및 수입 양식 수산물에 대해 잔류할 수 있는 향정신성 의약품인 디아제팜 대한 안전관리강화기반을 위해 마련되었다. 중국인민공화국 국가 표준시험법(GB 29697-2013)을 기반으로 전처리 방법을 개선하여 GC-MS/MS 시험법을 확립하였으며, LC-MS/MS 방법과의 기기간 검증을 통해 확립된 시험법의 선택성, 정량한계 및 회수율에 대한 검증을 통해 디아제팜 시험법으로서의 유효성을 확인하였다. LC-MS/MS의 경우 아세토니트릴로 추출 후 PSA를 이용해 정제하였고, GC-MS/MS의 경우 아세토니트릴로 추출후 $C_{18}$카트리지를 이용해 정제하였다. 디아제팜은 표준용액을 정량한계를 포함한 농도에 따라 검량선을 작성한 결과 두 기기 모두 $r^2$> 0.99 이상의 직선성을 확인하였다. 본 실험에서의 검출한계와 정량한계는 LC-MS/MS 및 GC-MS/MS 모두 0.0004 mg/kg, 0.001 mg/kg 수준이었으며, 평균 회수율은 각각 99.8~106%, 109~124%이었다. 또한, 분석오차는 모두 15% 이하로 정확성 및 재현성이 우수하였으며, CODEX 가이드라인 규정에 만족하는 수준이었다. 따라서 개발된 시험법은 안전한 수산물의 국내 유통과 잔류실태조사를 위해 활용될 것으로 기대한다.
