  • High-pressure flows are ubiquitous in many industrial fields. A representative application is fuel injection using a common-rail control system in diesel engines, where the injection pressure in the injector exceeds 1000 bar. In high-speed injection, the fluid injected through the nozzle undergoes breakup owing to the interaction with the ambient gas. The breakup process influences mixture formation, which in turn influences combustion in diesel engines. Therefore, it is very important to analyze the breakup process of fuel spray. The Reitz and Diwakar model and cascade atomization and breakup (CAB) model were used in this study as sub-models for the numerical analysis of the breakup process of fuel spray. This study aims to precisely analyze the breakup process of spray and to investigate the breakup frequency of the injected fuel. Consequently, it proposes a suitable sub-model for analyzing the breakup process of a diesel spray by using CFX, a commercial CFD program.

  • In this study, nanosized TPA-silicalite-1 was synthesized with a suitable molar composition of TPAOH: $SiO_2$: $H_2O$ for the development of zeolite ceramic membranes to utilize as gas separation. As silica sources, TEOS, LUDOX AS-40 and CAB-O-SIL were used with the starting material of TPAOH. $NaH_2PO_4$, and a variety of acids and bases were used as promoters after TPAOH, $SiO_2$, $H_2O$ gel synthesis. To decrease synthesis time, a two step temperature change method was applied to the synthesis of TPA-silicalite-1 at a low temperature. TPA-silicalite-1 synthesized was analyzed with XRD, SEM, BET and TGA. As a result, TPA-silicalite-1 powders with a particle size of 100 nm and a specific surface area of $416m^2/g$ were obtained as optimum synthesis conditions when the two stage temperature change method was used with $NaH_2PO_4$ as promoter.

  • In this study, Spiral inductors on the $SiO_2$/Si(100) substrate were fabricated by the magnetron sputtering method. Cu thin film with the thickness of 2 ${\mu}m$ was deposited on the substrate. Also we fabricated square inductors through the wet chemical etching technique. The inductors are completely specified by the turn width and the spacing between spirals. Both the width and spacing between spirals were varied from 10 to 60 ${\mu}m$ and from 20 to 70 ${\mu}m$, respectively. Inductance and Q factor dependent on the RF frequency were investigated to analyze performance of inductor arrays. Also, We recommend that the reasonable Q-factors, spec's turns and thickness of the coil for inductors cab be set to be ideal condition.

  • THE VIBRATION MODE OF RAILWAY VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT TO FIND OUT THE CHARACTERISTICS OF MOTION DURING THE OPERATION ON THE TRACK BECAUSE THESE HAPPEN TO INDEPENDENCE OR DUPLICATION MOTION CAUSED BY VEHICLE, WHEEL/RAIL INTERACTION, TRACK IRREGULARITY AND FAILURE OF THE SUSPENSION & POWER TRANSMISSION DEVICE ETC. IT IS NAMED AN ABNORMAL VIBRATION THAT THE VIBRATION, WHICH WAS PASSED THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SUSPENSION, IS AFFECTED TO THE PASSENGER OR DRIVER WITHOUT DAMPING. THIS PAPER DESCRIBES AN EXPERIENCE EVALUATION TO FIND OUT THE CAUSE OF AN ABNORMAL VIBRATION WHICH WAS HAPPEN AT THE CAB OF POWER CAR IN KTX-SANCHEON TRAINSET WHEN ON RUNNING AT HIGH SPEED ZONE.

  • This is the second part of the paper (Rojek and Kleiber 1993) devoted to nonlinear dynamic analysis of structures consisting of rigid and deformable parts. The first part contains a theoretical formulation of nonlinear equations of motion for the coupled system as well as a solution algorithm. The second part presents the computer implementation of the equations derived in the first part with a short review of the capabilities of the computer program used and the library of finite elements. Details of material nonlinearity treatment are also given. The paper is illustrated by discussing a practical problem of a safety cab analysis for an agricultural tractor.

  • An efficient fermentation strategy for the high level production of ultra-high-molecular weight poly(3-hdyroxybutyrate) (PHB) was developed. Although the cell and PHA concentrations obtained by flask cultures at different initial pH (6.0 or 6.9) were almost same level, the molecular mass of PHB produced were quite different along with the initial pH. When a recombinant Escherichia coli XL1-Blue harboring pJC2 containing the Alcaligenes latus PHB biosynthesis genes was cultivated in flask culture (pH 6.0), the PHB having a very high molecular weight of 22 MDa could be produced while only below 1 MDa at initial pH 6.9. The ultra-high-molecular weight PHB could be synthesized to high concentration of 89.8 g/L resulting in the PHB productivity of 2.07 g/L-h by simple fed-batch culture. In this study, we report that PHB having various molecular mass can be produced by employing metabolically engineered E. coli strains harboring the plasmids of different copy numbers containing the A. latus phbCAB genes.

  • Some aspects of the design procedures of reinforced concrete slabs concerning microvibration behavior have to be considered. In this study, a numerical algorithm for the analysis of slabs to withstand the microvibration effects is developed. First, the evaluation criteria for controlling the microvibration of slabs is given from the literature survey. Second, the human-induced load model is developed by the experimental results. Finally, the procedure for the analysis of reinforced concrete slabs, with particular emphasis to the slab subject to human-induced dynamic load, is developed by the finite element method and is then examined by using the slab model tests, In addition, the effects of elastic modulus, mass, shape of slab, and support conditions on the microvibration behavior of reinforced concrete slabs are analyzed. It is concluded that the developed analysis procedure showns in accecptable accuracy compared with the experiments and the analysis procedure cab be easily appkied to the practical microvibration problems.

  • In this study, a shape optimization of stiffener was conducted to increase buckling load or failure load in each case with a different design value and a different objective function for stiffened laminated composite panel of I-type under compression loading. Regarding each of buckling load or failure load as objective function, optimum design was carried out. In respect of optimum design, the effects of relative length of web and cab of stiffener on buckling load or failure load of postbuckling were investigated.

  • The tractor is the most important machine for farming keeping probably this position also for feeding the future fast growing world population. Band width of power and functions continues to increase worldwide, examples are given. Regarding the high developed countries, general farming demands as well as precision farming issues require closed loop control principles for the system "driver-tractor-implement". Progress in information technologies supports this trend, but comprehensive component and system developments are necessary to make the tractor ready for automatic or semi-automatic controls. The following technical highlights are, for example, discussed for Europe: hydropneumatic front axle suspensions, 50 km/h top speed, front brakes, electronically controlled multivalve diesel engines, automatic hydrostatic power split CVTs, load sensing hydraulics with proportional valves, improved cab and working places with "operations by wire" and more electronics on board than ever before.
