Alternative Breaching Methods of the TRISO Fuels

  • The head-end processes of spent TRISO fuel have been reviewed to understand the current status and the limitations of the reported processes. The main concerns in the TRISO treatment are to effectively breach and separate the carbon and SiC layers composing the TRISO particles. The crush-bum scheme which was considered in the early stages of the development has been replaced by the crush-leach or $CO_2$ burning and the succeeding CO decomposition process because of a sequestration problem of $CO_2$ containing $^{14}C$. However there are still many obstacles to overcome in the reported processes. Hence, innovative thermomechanical and pyrochemical concepts to breach the coating layers of the TRISO particle with a minimized amount of second waste are proposed in this paper and their principles are described in detail.

충적토사지반에서의 도심터널 설계 및 시공 (Design and Construction Case of Urban Tunnel in Alluvial Soil)

  • Alluvial soil is one of the most difficult grounds for tunneling works due to the insufficient ground strength and excessive ground water inflow. Dduk island in Seoul has a wide alluvium developed by two rivers, Han and Jung-Ryang. Subway tunnel of $\bigcirc\bigcirc$ line planed across Dduk island has highly poor ground conditions due to small cover and deeply developed alluvium. Moreover, much part of this tunnel is located parallel to the bridge foundations of another railway with a small horizontal distance. Original design was done in 2002 and construction has been in progress. During the construction, tunnel design has been partly changed and adjusted for the complex ground condition and the demand from related organizations. This paper intend to introduce the urban tunnel design and construction in alluvial soils. This line could be divided three sections(A, B, C) according to ground and adjacent conditions. Section A is featured by mixed tunnel faces consisted with alluvial soils and weathered or weak rocks. The feature of section B is that tunnel underpasses near the bridge foundations of another subway. Lastly, section C with a very short length is the most difficult construction conditions due to the small cover, poor ground, obstacles on and underneath ground surface.

  • The Packet radio C2OTM(Command and Control On The Move) for Command, Control and situational awareness in communication environment of current Combat Net Radio Network is required in a relay transmission techniques. This is to assure the reliability of information transfer, and extend Wireless Coverage and overcome Communication obstacles of mountainous terrain. For the reliability of information transmission in tactical environment, Ad hoc Networking is necessary considering communication environment and an appropriate application of error correction. In this study, We propose a on-demand SDR algorithm that is currently being applied the FEC, Golay, Repetition Code. This enhanced relay transfer uses Ack Reply in tactical operating environment of MIL-STD-188-220 Protocol.

  • Mobile robots include control modules for autonomous obstacle avoidance and navigation. They are range modules to detect and avoid obstacles. motor control modules to operate two wheels. and encoder modules for localization. There is needed an appropriate controller for each modules. In this paper. a control system. including 18 channels for Sonar sensors. 4 channels for PWM modules. and 4 channels for encoder modules. is proposed using TMS320C32 DSP adopted with CAN. The board communicates with other modules by CAN. so that mobile robots can perform several tasks in real time. So we can realize on autonomous mobile robot with basic functions such as obstacle avoidance by using the developed controller. Especially. this controller has 100 msec scan time for 16 sonar sensors and can detect closer objects comparing with standard sonar sensors.

이종센서를 이용한 차량과 장애물 검지시스템 개발 기초 연구 (Development of Vehicle and/or Obstacle Detection System using Heterogenous Sensors)

  • 본 연구는 도로 위의 객체를 분류하고 그 위치를 추정하기 위해 카메라와 레이저스캐너를 이용한 이종센서 검지 시스템의 연구를 다루고 있다. 이러한 도로인프라에서의 검지시스템은 ADAS(Advanced Driver Assist System) 및 (반)자동제어 서비스 등의 새로운 C-ITS 서비스에서 요구되는 객체의 위치 정보를 검지할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 국외 관련 사례를 살펴보고, 카메라와 레이저스캐너를 이용한 검지시스템의 가능성을 살펴보았다. 그 후 이종센서 처리 알고리즘을 제안하고, 실 도로환경에서 몇 가지 도로상황 시나리오를 설정하여 시험검증을 실시하였다. 그 결과 이종센서 검지시스템으로 차량, 보행자 및 기타 장애물에 대한 검지 및 위치 추정에 대하여 비교적 용이하게 이용될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구의 경우 매우 이상적인 조건에서 실험이 실시되었으며, 조도, 날씨 등의 외부환경 조건의 변화에 따른 알고리즘의 평가가 필요하다. 이러한 연구는 향후 미래의 C-ITS 환경 하에서 객체 검지 기술로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

  • 본 연구에서는 사용후 TRISO 연료 처리를 위한 보다 효과적인 공정개발을 위하여 기존 전처리 기술에 대한 검토를 수행하였다. TRISO 연료 처리에 있어서 가장 중요한 사항은 연료입자에 포함되어 있는 탄소와 SiC성분을 효과적으로 분리하는데 있다. 공정개발 초기에 고려되었던 분쇄 후 배소공정의 경우 $^{14}C$ 처리공정에서 발생되는 2차 폐기물로 인하여 분쇄 후 침출공정으로 대체 되었으나 여전히 해결해야 될 근본적인 문제점이 존재하고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 TRISO 입자의 피복층 제거를 위한 새로운 개념의 열적 파쇄와 용융염 전해반응에 의한 피복층 제거 공정을 제안하였으며 각 공정에 대한 원리를 자세하게 기술하였다.

Research on Relay Selection Technology Based on Regular Hexagon Region Segmentation in C-V2X

  • Traffic safety and congestion are becoming more and more serious, especially the frequent occurrence of traffic accidents, which have caused great casualties and economic losses. Cellular Vehicle to Everything (C-V2X) can assist in safe driving and improve traffic efficiency through real-time information sharing and communication between vehicles. All vehicles communicate directly with Base Stations (BS), which will increase the base station load. And when the communicating vehicles are too far apart, too fast or there are obstacles in the communication path, the communication link can be unstable or even interrupted. Therefore, choosing an effective and reliable multi-hop relay-assisted Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communication can not only reduce the base station load and improve the system throughput but also expand the base station coverage and improve the communication quality of edge vehicles. Therefore, a communication area division scheme based on regular hexagon segmentation technology is proposed, a relay-assisted V2V communication mechanism is designed for the divided communication areas, and an efficient communication link is constructed by selecting the best relay node. Simulation results show that the scheme can improve the throughput of the system by nearly 55% and enhance the robustness of the V2V communication link.

자동변속기용 언더드라이브 브레이크 피스톤의 판 단조공정 개선 방안 (Plate Forging Process Design for an Under-drive Brake Piston in Automatic Transmission)

  • The under-drive brake piston is an essential part in the automatic transmissions of automobiles. This component is manufactured by forging after blanking from S55C plate with a thickness of 6mm. It is difficult to design the plate forging process using a thick plate approach since there will be limited material flow as well as large press loads. Furthermore, the under-drive brake piston has a complex shape with a right angle step, which often results in die unfill and abrupt increase in press load. To overcome these obstacles, a separate die for filling material sufficiently to the corner of the right angle step is proposed. However, this approach induces an uncontrolled workpiece surface between the dies, resulting in flash. This excess flash degrades the tool life in the final machining after cold forging as well as increases the cycle time to obtain the net-shape of the part. In the current study, we propose an optimum process design using a conventional die shaped with the benefit of finite element analysis. This approach enhanced the process efficiency without sacrificing the dimensional accuracy in the forged part. As the result, the optimum plate forging process was done with a two stage die, which reduces weight of by 6% compared with previous process for the under-drive brake piston.

Pork Production in China, Japan and South Korea

  • Global pork markets are becoming more competitive, riding the wind of the bilateral free trade agreement. China is the world's largest pork producer with nearly 50% of the world's total production. China's fast growing economy has provided its people with higher purchasing power, resulting in a rapid expansion of the Chinese swine industry over the past decades. Worldwide, China consumes the greatest amount of pork and it is believed that this trend will continue. Japan is the world's largest pork importing country, even though it also produces a lot of pork. The Japanese swine industry encounters weighty obstacles in production costs and environmental limitations which result in reduced domestic supply and creates the situation in which Japan has to import a significant amount of pork for their consumption. South Korea is also a large buyer of pork, with a status greatly influenced by the struggle that the country has faced with Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) which occurred in 2000, 2002 and 2010. High production costs, low production efficiency, and forced culling following the FMD outbreak resulted in the loss of many hog farming households in the country, reducing supply of domestic pork in the face of continued demand. Overall, pork production in these economically important countries can greatly impact the industry globally. The goal of this review paper is to describe pork production in China, Japan, and South Korea and discuss these countries' role in global pork export markets.

유도결합구조 가변형 대역통과필터의 이론적 분석 및 모델링 (Theoretical Analysis and Modeling for PCB Embedded Tunable Filter with Inductive Coupling)

  • Fully embedded tunable bandpass filter (BPF) with inductive coupling circuits is newly designed and demonstrated for UHF TV tuner ranged from 500MHz to 900MHz receivers. Conventional RF tuning circuit with an electromagnetic coupled tunable filter has several problems such as large size, high volume, and high cost, since the electromagnetic coupled filter is comprised of several passive components and air core inductors to be assembled and controlled manually. To address these obstacles, compact tunable filter with inductive coupling circuit was embedded into low cost organic package substrate. The embedded filter was optimally designed to have high performance by using high Q spiral stacked inductors, high dielectric $BaTiO_3$ composite MIM capacitors, varactor diodes. It exhibited low insertion loss of approximately -2dB, high return loss of below -10dB, and large tuning range of 56.3%. It has an extremely compact size of $3.4{\times}4.4{\times}0.5mm^3$.
