  • The precision and endurance of tire mold are very important factors to decide the quality of tire. However, the investigation on the thermal deformation of tire mold has a lot of trouble because the tire mold is produced in airtight permanent casting material. In this study, the thermal deformations such as temperature, displacement and stress distributions inside the AC7A tire mold casting material were analyzed by numerical analysis according to the preheating temperature of permanent casting device. In order to verify the results of numerical analysis, the experiments for temperature measurement of the AC7A casting material were carried out under the same condition with numerical analysis. For the numerical analysis, "COMSOL Multiphysics" was used. The preheating temperatures were set up $150^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$, $250^{\circ}C$ and $300^{\circ}C$, respectively. The thermal deformations were calculated in each case. When the preheating temperature is $300^{\circ}C$, displacement and stress are the lowest with 0.25mm and 0.351GPa, but the temperature is the highest with $374.27^{\circ}C$. When the experimental results were compared with the numerical results, there were some temperature differences because of the latent heat by phase change heat transfer. However, the cooling patterns were almost similar except for the latent heat section.

  • The surface gloss of an injection molded part is one of the most significant point for evaluating the quality of products appearance. The effects of process condition on the gloss of ABS(Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene) molded part were investigated in this work. The measurements of gloss and morphology on the surface of molded part were carried out with different melt temperature, mold temperature, mold surface roughness, injection pressure and holding pressure. Gloss had a maximum value with melt temperature in the range of 210 to 220 ${^\circ}C$ and with mold temperature 40 to 50${^\circ}C$ and with injection pressure 80~90 MPa, respectively. Melt temperature was shown to have the largest effect on gloss in our work. Gloss was not improved in the region of melt temperature 240${^\circ}C$ above and of mold temperature 60${^\circ}C$ above. It was concluded that the variation of gloss was mainly caused by rubber particles migration under shear stress not by their aggregation or necklace.

  • The effect of two particle size ranges (80% of the particles in the ration less than 1.19mm ; and 40% of the particles in the ration less than 1.1mm) and two different levels of protein (18% and 12% ) on the activity of mold inhibitors in commercial ration was determined by measuring mold count, CO$30^{\circ}C$ production and aflatoxin concentration. A commercial fungistat was mixed in the treated diets at the level of 0.1% (W/W). Two types of experimental diets (18% & 12% protein) which contained 12.6 and 12.7% moisture content each were stored under the forced air humidifier at 85% humidity and a controlled-temperature of 29+1$30^{\circ}C$ for 5 to 40 days. Mold count and CO$30^{\circ}C$ levels in the feed treated with mold inhibitor were significantly higher (P<0.05 and P<0.01 respectively) when 40% of the ration's particle size was<1.19mm. The different protein levels in the ration treated with mold inhibitor did not have a significant effect (P>0.05) on the mold count and $CO_2$ production. Protein level $\times$ particle size range interaction on the $CO_2$ production was significant (P<0.05). Aflatoxin production in the experimental diet with mold inhibitor was significantly (P<0.05) affected by the levels of protein and the different particle size ranges. The interaction of protein levels and particle size ranges on the aflatoxin production was significant (P<0.05) at 40 days of storage.

  • 1. The preparation and some enzymatic properties of crude alkaline protease from a thermophilic mold, Myriococcum sp. was investigated. 2. Optimum pH for the hydrolysis of casein was 9.0 at $50^{\circ}C$ for 10 minutes. Optimum temperature was $55^{\circ}C$ at pH 9.0 for 10 minutes. The enzyme was highly stable at the range of pH 6.0 to 11.0 at $30^{\circ}C$ 3. The alkaline protease in the culture filterate was isolated two fractions by elution column chromatography on DEAE-Cellulose.

  • The continuous casting is primarily a heat-extraction process in which the heat transfer at various cooling zones profoundly influences quality of products. So development of numerical model is necessarily needed for more specific and clear investigations upon heat transfer mechanism at mold and secondary cooling zones. In this study, heat transfer coefficients which shows the characteristic of heat transfer mechanism in mold are calculated for more exact analysis with temperatures measured in bloom mold using optimal algorithm, and finally the validity of cooling conditions at secondary cooling zone which is actually used at field for 30 Ton bloom type continuous casting of 0.187%C is investigated. From the results of solidification analysis, the characteristic of bloom mold shows good agreements with that of previously studies by other authors and optimized cooling conditions for 0.187%C are presented.

  • Microstructure and mechanical properties of the low pressure die-cast Al wheels were investigated by microscope, image analyzer, NDT (non-destructive test), and tensile test. The variation of SDAS (secondary dendrite arm spacing), porosity per unit area, quality grade, and tensile properties with the mold temperatures were examined. SDAS was gradually decreased with a decrease in temperature. However, the lowest value of porosity per unit area was observed at the mold temperature of $405^{\circ}C$ and the optimum mold temperature was found to be $405^{\circ}C$. Besides, from the observation of pore morphology, it was also found that the pore formation was mainly caused by shrinkage during solidification. The tensile strength, elongation, and impact toughness were markedly decreased, however the yield strength was nearly constant. The decrease of mechanical properties is attributed to the increase of porosity.

  • A gray mold disease occurred on Cryptotaenia japonica in Korea. All the isolates of Botrytis sp. from the lesions of the diseased plants were identified to be B. cinerea based on the morphological characteristics. Conidia formed on conidiogenous cells were not in chains, hyaline to pale brown, unicellular, ellipsoidal to obovate with a single hilum at the base, entirely verruculose, and $6.3-11.3{\sim}6.3-10.0{\mu}m$ in size. Pathogenicity of the fungus was proved by artificial inoculation on C. japonica. This is the first record of gray mold on C. japonica caused by B. cinerea in Korea.

  • The effects of C, Si and RE additions on the tendency of chill formation of ductile cast iron obtained from metal mold casting were investigated. In case of metal mold cast, the ductile cast iron with 2.5%Si had pearlitic matrix, and specimens with 2.9%Si had bull's eye type regardless of C contents. As-cast specimen with a large amount of fine graphites could be obtained by adding 0.2% RE. Normalizing process was necessary to remove carbide and form a large amount of spheroidal graphites for the as-cast specimens. Good mechanical properties could be obtained by heat-treatment of as-cast specimens with pearlitic matrix. Normalizing the specimens with RE caused the reduction in mechanical properties.
