  • While people with higher education are more likely to vote in most western societies, they are less likely to vote in Korea. To explain this puzzle, this paper introduces new concept of "distrust of the public promise. " With this new concept, this paper contends that in Korea where public promises are so easily broken, those with higher education are more skeptical of the politicians. Based on the various post-election surveys, this paper shows that "distrust of the public promise" leads the more educated people to abstain in the election. By adding rational factors of the voters to the conventional model, this paper proposed a more comprehensive model to explain non-voters in Korea. This paper explains increasing Korean non-voters in terms of rational choice perspective. choice perspective.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the utility of election campaign advertising by applying Q methodology that draw upon schematic model in subjectivity study. A survey was carried out among college students to classify the 16 selected Q-statements into a normal distribution using a 7 point scale. The collected data was analyzed using QUANL program, and principal component analysis using varimax rotation was used to identify the types of perceived utility of election campaign advertising. Type I can be categorized by a strong concern for the advertising technique improvement, Type II can be categorized by advocating for interest induction and Type III can be categorized by the truth inducement. The use of Q methodology provides insights into audience perceptions on the utility of election campaign advertising that would not be available through traditional methodologies and offers a foundation for audience involvement to address and overcome concerns about the utility of advertising for election campaign.

  • Researchers in sample surveys have long recognized that what people say they are going to and what they do are not always the same, to say the least. Naturally this inconsistency distorts the survey results, especially in election poll surveys in Korea. How can one cope with this measurement bias\ulcorner This paper suggests two ideas: election poll tree and using posterior probability. By using two ideas the inconsistency of the poll survey results could be improved much or less.

  • In 2008, Taiwan adopted a new mixed member system which is significantly different from the long-implemented SNTV-MMD system for the election of legislators. The new system cuts the number of legislative seats from 225 to 113, extends legislators' terms of office from three years to four, and most importantly, adopts a new mixed-member majoritarian (MMM) electoral system to replace the SNTV system for legislative elections. The election of legislators in 2008 was the first time that this new mixed electoral system was implemented in Taiwan. Mainstream literature continues to discuss the electoral impact on political parties and candidates by the new system while citizens' knowledge of the new system and its concomitant effects on citizens' behavior receive less attention. Worse still, almost all of the literature assumes that voters were fully aware of the operation and impact of the new electoral system and cast their ballots wisely. The purpose of this paper is to explore citizen's perceptions, participation and evaluation of this new system.

  • It is important to efficiently elect the cluster header in Hierarchical Sensor Network, because it largely affects on the lifetime of the network. Therefore, recent research is focused on the lifetime extension of the whole network for efficient cluster header election. In this paper, we propose the new Cluster Header Election Scheme in which the cluster is divided into Group considering Distance from Upper Node, and a cluster header will be elected by node density of the Group. Also, we evaluate the performance of this scheme, and show that this proposed scheme improves network lifetime in Zigbee environment.

  • As Internet voting can take place regardless of a voter's location, the participation rate of the voters would be increased and economic costs will be reduced. But the drawback of it is that all participants have to trust the election management server. If the server colludes with the specific candidate, the other candidates cannot prove rigged election. In addition, majority of researches on Internet voting are mainly focused on the voting restricted by the region and the country. Thus, it's not appropriate for the election in Internet community such as YouTube channels. As the Internet community is composed of members from all around the world, the new type of voting model is needed. In this study, we propose the smart contract based Internet voting model applicable on the blockchain network. The proposed smart contract model consists of candidate registration, voter registration, voting and counting stages. In the proposed model, anonymity of the voter is assured in the voter registration and voting stages, and all candidates can confirm the fairness of the election in the counting stage.

  • The US presidential primaries take place sequentially in different places with a time lag. However, they have not attracted as much attention in terms of modelling as the US presidential election has. This study applied several autologistic models to find the relation between the outcome of the primary election for a Democrat candidate with socioeconomic attributes in consideration of spatial and temporal dependence. According to the result applied to the 2016 election data at the county level, Hillary Clinton was supported by people in counties with high population rates of old age, Black, female and Hispanic. In addition, spatial dependence was observed, representing that people were likely to support the same candidate who was supported from neighboring counties. Positive auto-correlation was also observed in the time-series of the election outcome. Among several autologistic models of this study, the model specifying the effect of Super Tuesday had the best fit.

  • Many areas of human activities are computerized with the wide spread use of computers and communication networks.Electrinic voting is an important social activity in democtatic society. The realization of electronic democracy is based on the sectrity of edectronic voting scheme. Therefore, it is necessary to use the cryto-graphic technique for secure electronic voting scheme. Therefore, it is necessary to use the cryto-graghic technique for secure election. In this stusy, an dedctronic voting scheme sutiable for large election is proposed. In order to make practi-cal volting scheme, we assume that the voting authorization center is trustful and the chaum's anonymous com-munication channel[6] prepared before the election day.The center authorizes the ballot of eligible voter by using the ID based digital signature scheme in the registeation stage.During the voting stage, undeniable chal-lenge/ response prorocol is performed between the center and the boters to ensure that the intemediate voting results should not affect the entire. The proprsed scheme fully conforms to the requirments of large scale election such as privacy of the voters, fairness, unresuability, unforgeability and eligbility.
