  • Butterfly valve is a kind of rotational valve which opens and closes the flow of fluid on rotating the disk 90 degrees in the valve body. In this paper, butterfly valve design safety evaluation which is based on the international valve specifications is investigated. Both body and disk of the butterfly valve are considered under the normal and pressurized operating conditions. A finite element analysis is carried out to compute the distribution of the displacement, stress and safety factor by using ANSYS. On the basis of calculated design safety we offer the design modification and compare with them.

  • A cryogenic butterfly valve is used to transfer the liquefied natural gas (LNG) which temperature is $-162^{\circ}C$. This valve is core part in the piping system using LNG. This paper performed coupling analysis using FEM to evaluate safety of cryogenic butterfly valve. Flow analysis is calculated numerically the CAE and CFD methods are useful to predict the thermal matter and the inner flow field of the valve. Thermal analysis and structural analysis used ANSYS Workbench.

  • A three-dimensional numerical analysis was carried out on incompressible flows in butterfly valves by using commercial FLUENT/UNS code. Characteristics of complex flows including cavitation effect were investigated for different valve disk angles. The butterfly-valves that had different disk angles and different disk shapes were compared with each other in detail. This study focused on the flow analysis in the conventional butterfly valve and the newly designed butterfly valve in order to prevent cavitation. The newly designed valve shows great improvement on performance and endurance.

  • The triple eccentric butterfly valve has metal sheet and this study about butterfly valve ceiling is an innovative approach. But it is affected by the static pressure as well as cross-current. The damage at the valve on the pipe resulted from the reflux is due to valve leakage. This study is investigated on the triple eccentric disk and it is applied with angle and the static pressure in all cases to develop cross-current triple eccentric butterfly valves. The disc with the diameter of 300A is valve against flow velocity. The entrance pressure by flow characteristics is performed with numerical analysis. As the result, valve torque production is reduced more than the conventional triple eccentric valve and entrance pressure is decreased on the increase of valve open angle. And flow coefficient can be known to be increased.

  • Functional requirements and design parameters were not clarified in the early design process. Design axiom shows some difficulty for larger system designs, such as the butterfly valve, which is basically carried out by an incremental and iterative process. A numerical analysis was carried out on fluid flows in a butterfly valve, by using ANSYS-FLOTRAN. Characteristics of the butterfly flows at different valve disk opening angles, with a uniform incoming velocity, were investigated. The entire analysis is decomposed to satisfy the independence axiom. This paper resolves the problems associated with the establishment of a systematic design process.

  • The butterfly valve has been used to control a flow effectively in the industrial because of its lightweight, simple structure and the rapidity of its manipulation. However, it is difficult to have the existing structural optimization using field analysis from CFD to structure analysis when the structure is influenced by fluid. This paper is evaluated the specificity to get the flow characteristic and stability of the butterfly valve using FEM and CFD. Also, it accomplished the shape optimization design using the orthogonal arrangement and characteristic function. Research result, a few experiments showed the optimal results of three dimensional structures to be multi-objective.

  • Butterfly valves installed on ships use valves with up to triple offset to improve tightness. However, the triple offset valve has structural problems such as disc deformation and seat separation. Accordingly, interest in quadruple offset butterfly valves with added offset is increasing. In this study, the structural safety of the quadruple offset butterfly valve was examined through numerical analysis. In addition, we intend to evaluate the performance of the valve through flow coefficient analysis.

  • Flow control butterfly valve(FCBV) is known to have difficulty in controlling flow rate along valve opening due to its high flow rate. In low opening condition, the butterfly valve also has some shortcomings such as noise, vibration and erosion which are mostly caused by cavitation effects. Therefore, the FCBV requires proper remedies to reduce cavitation effects and to improve flow control performance. Numerical analysis is applied to FCBV flow to find effects of design factors such as seat diameter and valve opening rate. Cases with 3 different sizes of seat diameter and various valve opening rate are selected for the numerical analysis. From the analysis results, it is found that the FCBV with small seat diameter shows better pressure loss performance and reduced cavitation effects.
