과압밀 및 정규압밀영역의 응력상태에 따른 부산점토 장기압밀특성 (Long-term Consolidation Characteristics of Busan Clay considering OC or NC States)

  • Numerouslong-term consolidation and secondary compression settlements may occur in Busan clay, which is astructured soft clay and consists of a thick clay deposit. As a surcharge load is applied to soils, soils experience different stress paths with depth. Therefore, it is necessary to study the long-term consolidation behavior of Busan clay considering stress conditions such as OC or NC states. In this study, a series of long-term consolidation tests were performed to investigate the consolidation characteristics of Busan clay for 20 days. The undisturbed clay samples were taken from 3 sites located in the Nakdong River estuary. The results showed that the creep rate of the Busan clay gradually decreased with time, which indicated that the secondary compression settlement decreased with time. In addition, the experimental results for 3 samples showed that the ratios were about 0.0363 and 0.051, respectively.

서·남해안 해성점토의 물리·압축특성 고찰 - 인천·목포·광양·부산 - (Consideration of Physical and Compression Characteristics among Western and Southern Coastal Marine Clays - Incheon·Mokpo·Gwangyang·Busan -)

  • 국내의 동 서 남해안에는 해성점토층이 폭넓게 분포되어 있으며, 해안지역에서 기반시설물을 설계할 때 압축성이 큰 해성점토로 구성된 연약지반의 공학적 특성을 파악하는 일은 매우 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 인천, 목포, 광양 및 부산지역 해성점토의 물리적 압축특성을 분석하여 각 지역 및 우리나라 서 남해안 점토특성을 비교하였다. 이를 위하여 114구역 1,471개 샘플의 실험결과를 이용하였다. 비교결과, 인천점토의 경우 중국 황하로부터 유입된 세립실트 및 높은 조수간만의 차로 가장 낮은 소성 및 높은 단위중량을 보였고, 광양점토는 광범위한 준설매립의 영향으로 압축성이 가장 컸다. 그와 비교할 때 목포 및 부산의 경우는 부분적으로 비슷한 수준의 특성을 나타내었다. 목포와 부산점토의 압축지수는 인천에 비하여 2배 이상, 광양점토의 경우는 목포 및 부산에 비해 70% 이상 높게 나타났다.

  • The depositional characteristics of Busan clay are initially described in this paper. The deposits of the Nakdong River estuary are composed of some different layers, which have been affected by marine transgression and regression. The upper clay layer is thick and soft. The lower clay layer and some depth of the upper clay layer have been leached by artesian pressure existing in an aquifer below. The clay shows unique physical and engineering characteristics due to leaching. Several large-scale reclamation projects have been performed in this delta area. The preloading method using long vertical drains has been applied for soft ground improvement. Experiences obtained from ground improvement are mentioned in connection with the depositional characteristics of the clay layers.

간극수압비를 이용한 부산점토의 CPTu 콘계수 추정 (Evaluation of CPTu Cone Factors for Busan Clay Using Pore Pressure Ratio)

  • 본 연구에서는 부산지역 점토의 비 배수전단강도를 추정하기 위해 현장 및 실내시험을 통해 부산점토의 콘계수를 평가하였다. 이를 위해 부산신항 지역 및 녹산지역에서 $CK_0U$ 삼축압축시험, 베인전단시험, 피에조 콘 관입시험(CPTu) 등을 실시하였다. 시험결과, 현장 점토의 비배수전단강도는 심도에 따라 증가하였으며, 강도증가비는 각각 $S_{u(CKU)}/{\sigma}'_v\;{\fallingdotseq}\;0.26{\sim}0.44$${\mu}_{su(VST)}/{\sigma}'_v\;{\fallingdotseq}\;0.20{\sim}0.23$로 삼축 비배수전단강도가 베인 비배수전단강도에 비해 1.5배 정도 크게 나타났다. 또한 CPTu 시험결과 콘선단저항($q_c$)과 간극수압($u_2$)은 심도에 따라 증가하였으며, 간극수압비($B_q$)는 $0.3{\sim}1.0$정도로 나타났다. 삼축압축 및 베인시험 결과와 CPTu 결과로부터 콘계수를 산정한 후 간극수압비와 비교한 결과, 삼축 비배수전단강도와 베인 비배수전단강도를 추정하기 위한 부산지역 점토의 콘계수는 각각 $5{\sim}20$, $10{\sim}35$로 나타났다. 그리고 콘계수는 간극수압비가 증가함에 따라 선형적으로 감소하였으며, 이로부터 간극수압비를 이용한 부산점토 콘계수 추정방법을 제안하였다.

  • The compressibility of clay has been expressed e-log p' graph. In natural clay, e-log p' graph are changed by deposition condition and chemical cementation as well as Atterberg limits, whereas in reconstituted clay, it is generally known that e-log p’ curve is varied with Atterberg limits. However, e-log p' graph is possible to change according to the reconstituting methods and test conditions. In this study, consolidation tests are performed as various test condition for reconstituted Busan clay. Test results show that the relationship e/$e_L$ and log p' is almost constant with $e_L$. And the compression index obtained from slurry method sample is larger than one obtained from kneading method sample. Intrinsic compression line (ICL) of Busan clay is identical with ICL suggested by Burland.

  • The constrained modulus, representative property to evaluate compressibility of soil, is needed to estimate the settlement of ground structure. A series of lab and field cone penetration tests for clayey soil of Busan new-port and Noksan industrial area were conducted to evaluate the estimation method of constrained modulus. Since CPT generates large deformation of ground, it is difficult to correlate the cone resistance with the constrained modulus. Therefore, appropriate correlation between them is essential to estimate the constrained modulus based on CPT results. The test results show that the ratio of the constrained modulus to the cone resistance is inversely proportional with plasticity index. Based on this result, the estimation method of constrained modulus for Busan clay is suggested.

  • Nakdong River Plain and its adjoining sea arc unusually covered by very thick soft clay sediments which were caned Pusan clays, sometimes reaching 40-70m. Since early 1990s a large number of geotechnical investigations have been carried out for land reclamation works in the area, including Busan city and its neighboring cities. Nevertheless, geotechnical engineers have paid little attention to studying geological characteristics on the clays, except some researches related to mineralogy, geo-chemistry, benthic foraminiferal fauna etc. The purpose of reserach is the knowledge of the correlation between engineering properties and mineralogy of clay sediments. The correlation analysis carry out multiple regression that have independent variables (Engineering properties) and dependent variables (mineralogy, geochemistry). Engineering properties of clay are correlated with the mineral compositions and geochemical characteristics. 부산과 인천점토의 퇴적상태를 고려한 압축지수 추정 (Prediction of Compression Index of Busan and Inchon Clays Considering Sedimentation State)

  • 압축지수는 점토의 압축특성을 나타내는 대표적인 물성치로, 압밀시험을 통해 직접 결정하거나 기본 물성으로부터 경험적으로 추정한다. 본 연구에서는 부산 및 인천점토의 퇴적상태를 파악하고 이것이 압축지수 추정식에 미치는 영향에 분석하였다. 이를 위해 부산 및 인천 점토의 재성형점토 압밀시험을 수행하고 자연점토 압밀시험 결과를 분석하였다. 분석결과 부산점토는 SCL보다 높은 간극지수를, 인천점토는 SCL보다 낮은 간극지수를 나타냈다. 퇴적상태를 나타내는 ${\Delta}e_r$을 압축지수 추정오차와 비교한 결과 액성한계 및 소성지수로 추정한 압축지수의 추정오차는 ${\Delta}e_r$이 증가함에 따라 감소하는 경향이 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 관계를 이용하여 부산 및 인천점토의 압축지수를 보다 정확히 추정할 수 있는 방법을 제안하였다.

DMT를 이용한 부산점토의 변형계수 추정 (Correlation of Constrained Modulus for Busan Clay using DMT)

  • Because the flat dilatometer (DMT) is operated in appropriate strain level, it has been known as an adoptable in-situ tool to evaluate the compressibility of soils compare with other in-situ test tools, such as SPT and CPT. This study is concerned about prediction method of constrained modulus by DMT, and a series of DMT and consolidation tests are performed at Busan new-port, Yangsan and Noksan test sites. By comparing DMT results with lab tests, the suitability of constrained modulus correlation, which is suggested by Marchetti, is investigated in Busan clay and new correlation is suggested. In lab test result, the compression indices ($C_c$) of Busan clay are turned out to be 0.4~0.12, and the constrained moduli are found out 0.5MPa~3MPa and these are increase with depth. The predicted constrained moduli using Marchetti's correlation are turned out 0.5MPa~4MPa, and these are bigger than measured constrained moduli by lab tests. By analyzing lab test and DMT results, it is shown that the correlation coefficient ($R_M=M/E_D$) has a linear relationship with (1/$I_D$) in Busan.

An experimental procedure for evaluating the consolidation state of marine clay deposits using shear wave velocity

  • In marine clay deposits, naturally formed or artificially reclaimed, the evaluation and monitoring of the consolidation process has been a critical issue in civil engineering practices due to the time frame required for completing the consolidation process, which range from several days to several years. While complementing the conventional iconographic method suggested by Casagrande and recently developed in-situ techniques that measure the shear wave, this study suggests an alternative experimental procedure that can be used to evaluate the consolidation state of marine clay deposits using the shear wave velocity. A laboratory consolidation testing apparatus was implemented with bimorph-type piezoelectric bender elements to determine the effective stress-shear wave velocity (${\sigma}^{\prime}-V_s$) relationship with the marine clays of interest. The in-situ consolidation state was then evaluated by comparing the in-situ shear wave velocity data with the effective stress-shear wave velocity relationships obtained from laboratory experiments. The suggested methodology was applied and verified at three different sites in South Korea, i.e., a foreshore site in Incheon, a submarine deposit in Busan, and an estuary delta deposit in Busan. It is found that the shear wave-based experimental procedure presented in this paper can be effectively and reliably used to evaluate the consolidation state of marine clay deposits.
