For an aspect ratio (transport length-to-width) of 5, Pr = 2.89, Le = 0.018, Pe = 2.29, Cv = 1.11, $P_B$=40 Torr, solutally buoyancy-driven convection $(Gr_s=3.03{\times}10^5)$ due to the disparity in the molecular weights of the component A $(Hg_2Cl_2)$ and B (He) is stronger than thermally buoyancy-driven convection $(Cr_t=1.66{\times}10^4)$. The crystal growth rate is decreased exponentially for $2.5\;{\leq}\;Ar\;{\leq}\;5$, with (1) the linear temperature profile and a fixed temperature difference, (2) the imposed thermal profile, a fixed crystal region and varied temperature difference. This is related to the finding that the effects of side walls tend to stabilize convection in the growth reactor. But, with the imposed thermal profile, a fixed source region and varied temperature difference, the rate is increased far $2\;{\leq}\;Ar\;{\leq}\;3$, and remains nearly unchanged for $3\;{\leq}\;Ar\;{\leq}\;5$.

This present experimental study has dealt with the heat transfer characteristics of plastic particle slurry which flows in a circular tube. This type of slurry is suggested for heat transfer enhancement effect cause by random and vortex effect of plastic particle dispersed in water. As a result, the thermal boundary layer becomes thin so the heat transfer coefficient on the tube wall more increase compare to pure water flow. This experimental test section was composed with stainless pipe which has the length of 2000mm, inner pipe diameter of 14mm and outer pipe diameter of 60mm. The most effective and important parameter of this experiment is plastic packing factor(PPF). The focuses of these results are pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient. As results, the friction factor of plastic particle slurry becomes higher at laminar flow region than pure water because of buoyancy effect of plastic particle but the local heat transfer coefficient becomes higher.

The subchannel analysis was performed to verify the behavior of hot channel characteristics and obtain the information to support the core thermal-hydraulic behavior at post-trip steam line break with low flow condition. During this postulated accident, buoyancy-induced cross flow occurs, and the coupled nuclear and thermal-hydraulic interactions become important. The code predictions with TORC are in good agreement with the test data. Under such conditions, the mass flow increase in the hot channel by buoyancy-induced cross flow depends on the parameter $GR^{*}\;/\;Re^2$, and buoyancy effect becomes more noticeable as $GR^{*}\;/\;Re^2$ increases.

The buoyancy-driven turbulent thermal convection is predicted using an anisotropic hybrid turbulence model, which is incorporated with a low Reynolds k-.epsilon. turbulence model and an anisotropic buoyant part of algebraic stress model(ASM). The numerical predictions are compared with the Davidson's model,(1) the full ASM and the experimental results of Cheesewright et al.(2) All the models are shown to predict good agreements with the experiments for the averaged turbulence quantities. It is found that the effect of an anisotropic part on the Reynolds stress and the turbulent heat fluxes is substantial. In this study, the present hybrid model gives a fairly reasonable prediction in terms of the computational accuracy, convergence and stability. The contribution of an anisotropic buoyant part to turbulent heat fluxes are also scrutinized over the range of Rayleigh numbers $(4.79{\times}10^{10}{\le}Ra{\le}7.46{\times}10^{10}).$
Application of the simple buoyancy adjustment model, similar to Davey's (1983), indicates that buoyancies imposed locally or from outside of the basin are the major factor of the Japan Sea circulation. Within the context of the model considered, the relatively strong SW gradient of temperature, and corresponding western boundary current, in the SW region is due to the beta-effect. Kelvin waves make the western side colder and the eastern side warmer. Buoyancy input (presumably by fresh water discharge) in the NW region, so far neglected, plays an important role in strengthening the NKCC (North Korea Cold Current) and suppressing the EKWC (East Korea Warm Current) thereby breaking the conventional branching system of the Tsushima Warm Current.
The present study investigates flow character and heat transfer behaviors of viscoelastic non-Newtonian fluid in a 2:1 rectangular duct. An axially-constant heat flux on bottom wall and peripherally constant temperature boundary condition(H1) was adopted. The Reiner-Rivlin fluid model is used as the normal stress model for the viscoelastic fluid and temperature-dependent viscosity model is adopted. The present results show a signifiant change of the main flow field which causes a large heat transfer enhancement. This phenomena can be explained by the combined effect of buoyancy, temperature-dependent viscosity and viscoelastic property on the flow.

This study deals with the interaction between buoyancy-induced convection and externally imposed excitation in the form of harmonic rocking and the effect of the interaction upon heat transfer in low-Pr liquids. A wide array of system responses are discussed using the spectral collocation numerical technique. The superposition of buoyancy and Coriolis forces leads to complex fluid flow and heat transfer. The transition to chaotic convection is accelerated, and heat transfer rates are reduced as the enclosure is excited at the fundamental frequency of oscillation associated with the pure buoyancy-driven case. Average heat transfer rates are correlated for Pr=0.02 and 0.03. The heat transfer is affected more in the Pr=0.03 liquid than the case of Pr=0.02.
The effect of flow stratification is of particular concern during transient after scram in the outlet plenum of LMFBR. In this case, buoyancy effects on turbulent mixing are of importance to designers. An investigation has been made to identify the appropriate change in the available turbulence models which are necessary to include the effects of buoyancy on turbulence transport equations. The developed physical model of the buoyant turbulent flow are solved through SMAC method. Testing of the developed numerical model was undertaken and compared with experimental results. The results show that the buoyant turbulent effects account for a significant increase in the stability of the stratification, with a strong suppression of turbulence in the outlet plenum.
Double-diffusive convection with verical temperature and concentration gradients in thermally stratified fluids has been investigated experimentally using an electrochemical technique. Cupric sulfuric-sulffuric acid solution confined between two horizontal copper electrodes was used. The change of thermal and solutal buoyance has no influence on the range of voltage for the limiting current. Due to Soret effect, the onset time of natural convection is delayed as the stabilizing thermal buoyancy decreases. Also it is found that the shrinkage of the unstabilizing solutal buoyancy makes the onset of natural convection retard. Multi-layered convective phenomena do not appear because cupric sulfate-sulfuric acid solution is thermally stratified, and heat diffuses faster than cupric sulfate solfate solution.

The mixed convective heat transfer problems are characterized by the relatively significant contribution of buoyancy force to the transport processes of momentum and heat. Past analytical studies on this kind of problems have been carried out by employing either the conventional R-.epsilon. turbulence model which includes constant turbulent Prandtl number .sigma.$_{+}$ 1 or an extended R-.epsilon. turbulence model which takes account of the buoyancy effect in appropriate length scale equations. But in the latter case, the temperature variance .the+a.$^{2}$ over bar is approximated by a model under local equilibrium condition and the time scale ratio between velocity and temperature is assumed to be constant. These approximation is known to break down when the buoyancy effect is dominant. The present study is aimed at development of new computational turbulence closure level which can be applied to this rather complex turbulent process. The temperature variance is obtained directly by solving its dynamic transport equation and the time scale ratio which is variable in space is computed by a solution of a dynamic equation for the rate of scalar dissipation .epsilon.$_{\thetod}$ It was found that the computational results are in good agreement with available experimental data of wide range of unstable conditions.
